  1. Carter you nailed it! I'm sometimes slightly asleep and out of it when I'm surfing in the hense my rambling earlier. The 82mm automatic mortar I saw in a book I have that I can't seem to locate I'll have to email the major with that info when I manage to get my hands on it.
  2. I'm drooling already! No 82mm automatic mortar for the opfor but I guess I'll live and hold out hopes for the future. I would like to know if you are adding any of the "new" weapons used in Chechnya (sp?). The ones I am refering to are the flame weapons (rpg type rocket launcher and a MRL type of system as well I think). Happy holidays and enjoy your much needed/deserved rest. 3. Anyone know when Black Hawk down is due out? The book is a great read. I have a tactical map of Lejune and some surrounding areas. I don't have a new one that includes the recent base expansion. I would be willing to help in any map making project. We should get a collection together at least of these maps for making into game maps.
  4. I too caught on to the sniper/recon tactic. Something that I have also tinkered with is changing the units to all recon teams to simulate a special forces type of force. More one sided but who said war was fair.
  5. This scenerio demonstrates the difficulty of using helicopters in a shoulder fired sam environment. At least for my first go at it. I learned the hard way.

    PBEM Game

My thoughts exactly! I kicked the infantry up to a company with extra mortars and resulted in a higher body count. After asking a cousin who was in the 82nd he said I was using the right infantry tactics but I needed some arty support.

    PBEM Game

Help! After getting a friend of mine to purchase Tacops we have been trying to get an email game going. I must be thickheaded cause I just can't seem to get it right! I read somewhere about an detailed step by step guide that the Major had written, but I cannot find it. Any help would be much appreciated. Also I'm starting to get a complex over Team Krempp. Has anyone beat this darn thing without adding extra units or arty? Just curious.
  8. Sounds a little beyond my capabilities! I would like to piddle around making a new map but sounds like I will have to stick to real maps that I can scan. I have the map that the Camp Lejune map came from (the game map is only a small portion of it)and a couple of others. If anyone has the map that includes the new maneuver space/impact area west of Hwy 17 I would be interested in it.
  9. Sorry for the confusion. It is my understanding of the map making process that you import an image to the map editer and use it to code in terrain. This is how one codes a map that has been scanned for use in tacops. But for the maps that come with the game and some of the other maps, how are they created? I was wondering which program is being used. Concerning the mortar question. Is the mortar fixed in elevation so that it fires to a set distance? The info about the smoke rounds was interesting. Kinda create your own smoke screen as you go! I really am wondering how this has been employed in actual combat. I have seen it referenced as being utilyzed in all Israeli tanks. They also have the standard smoke dischargers, which has led me to believe that it is an anti-infantry weapon of some sort. Usefull for supressing ATGW I'm sure.
  10. Couple of questions: 1. What is the number of aircraft that is represented by an airstrike? 2. Not really tacops related but thought someone would know the answer. The Israeli Merkva tank has a 60mm mortar for antipersonel use. Is this the same as the infantry mortar, how is it employed, and how is it mounted? 3. I downloaded the map edit tool, what kind of software that is used to make a map. 4. In version 4 will it be possible to join different types if units to have them work/move as a team (like tank/IFV combos or infantry/MG/Javelin teams)?
  11. Are the off board artillery units batteries or battalion sized? The range of hellfires well exceed the visual range (default setting) should this be changed to 8000 or is it possible for another unit to "paint" the target? If so how is this done? I have the downloaded demo is the instruction manual the same as the full version so I can be printing it while waiting on the full version? Thanks
  12. Couple of questions for ya. 1. What would be realistic ranges for daylight sighting, evening/dusk, night, fog/overcast/misty/miserable crappy weather? 2. How do most folks deal with the rear area types of units? Are you using recovery vehicles to retrieve damaged vehicles? What about ambulance units? What do most folks do with these? I like to go for the most realistic game possible so sticking some of the transport type and ambulances in some corner does not appeal to me so I thought I would ask what others are doing. As far as the range question the default ranges seem rather long to me. I live in Ohio and its not exaclty hill country by any stretch but even in the farm country I can't see being able to detect something that far out, even here in the midwest flatlands there is some variation to the land. 13. Any possibilities on new equipment to be included. Future as well as currently developed but not yet fielded?
  14. I read an article in the Gazette proposing for the USMC to adopt a rocket artillery system based on the 2.75" rocket. I was wondering is this modeled as a future weapon in the game and if not if it might be in a later version. This seems to me to be a good cheap artillery source for the types of missions the USMC performs. I would be interested to see how it worked out in a simulated situation. Dennis Huff
