  1. Here's a nifty trick for some of you who would like to simulate the presence of a military satelite flying overhead. **Note** This works only if you are playing in the more realistic "Fog-of-War" mode. You agree upon a time before starting the scenario, most scenarios starting at 0700 (7:00am) you can choose say, 0815. (In all fairness for Opfor, try to keep at least 1 hour between images) So at the pre-determined time (0815), you simply turn-off the Fog-of-War feature and pretend you have received the latest NRO battlefield photograph. You make/print a copy of the map with the position of all enemy units as of 0815 then turn the Fog-of-War right back on, Voila, instant satelite imagery! Now, it would be cool if one could remove the fog-of-War only on some portion of the battlefield and be able to zoom-in and out of areas to simulate authentic Keyhole imagery?! Major? Happy Playing and Happy New Year to all TacOps players and advesaries.
  2. I would REALLY like to make/edit my own maps but i have yet to learn how to. Is there a comprehensive/complete/thorough tool to help me learn map making for TacOps?
  3. Yeah! Happy Birthday and Happy New Year and while i am at it, Happy playing. Cordially Missionman
  4. On second thoughts, I could also make contacts with the Canadian Forces Public Affairs Dept, now privatised, in order to get access to maneuvers and exercises in order to get closer to the action and get better tighter images. The offer is on the table.
  5. I see no problems, only solutions, here goes: Let's pretend i had an idea of the image you needed and came up with a source to find it? You could then decide if copyright laws and publishing rights fit you fancy and budget. Of course, the goal here is to get the best pictures for the cheapest price. Secondly, i have a limited number of images of: -American combat airplanes taken in flight or on the ground during airshows -Canadian Forces patroling the poorest streets of Port au Prince, Haiti. -Canadian Forces patroling (onboard Bison APCs)in north-western Bosnia. -British Armored Forces (MBT) at White Fang heckpoint in Bosnia This is from the top of my head, i'll do a bit more research if you come up with specific topics you need. I want to be absolutely clear that my offer is totally gratuitous, there are no strings attached, i simply do it because you've got a real great game and want to do my part to make it even better (if at all possible!). This said you could use my images freely as long as a proper credit is present. It's that simple! It can't be any cheaper or easier than that, the ball is in your camp Major.

Same here, but despite the fact that i just paid for v.3 i hope that v.4 is going to be out soonest. Playing as OPFOR is also a great idea, the more choice the better since it let's dedicated players play with OPFOR (read: Eastern block) tactics. Long live TAcOps!
  7. Goodday Major, The first thing coming to mind to an ex-photographer was to look around for images that you may be unable to find. Foreign weapons and vehicules or any other images that you've had a hard time finding. Just provide me with a list of those you are looking for, this way me and interested members can contribute some to the game. I have started to use the Maptool but i wanted to know if there was such a thing as a unit tool? This way player could create foreign units such as Isreali Merkaba Tanks, French Leclerc or a whole German Armored division! Are there any statistics available about Chinese military equipment? It could be interesting to had Chinese units since they are different from the eastern block type equipment, just sharing ideas. These days it might be also realistic to had Terror Cells such as AL Quaeda, Al Jihad, AL Fatah, Islamic Jihad or even splinter groups like Tupac Amaru in Peru or Japanese Red Army in well, Japan. My goal is to share ideas with all and maybe even spark new developments for the versions to come.
  8. Good point Redwolf. My original command was related to combat with an AI opponent. The problem is that it wasn't mentionned in my commentary that i was refering to a "computer" advesary. Against a fellow human player, this trick (The wedge) seldom applies. I have never played against another human player. I am the only one i know who actually knows and enjoys this type of games hence my presence on Battlefront.com.
  9. Hey, If i may, here's a tactic that's effective against vehicular columns. I trick is to make a wedge or a chevron with mine 4-5 kilometers away from the "entry point" of any armored column. Many contiguous stagered "layers" of mines can be employed for a better firework! Arty should be targeted at the space between the mines where the column will eventually grind to a halt. When that happens, it's time to rain those 155mm on top of them. Also, by positionning your AT (Anti-Tank) capability behind enemy vehicules, in the space between the "entry point" and the mine ambush, you maximise your chances of scoring damaging hits on heavy armor such as T-72 and T-80. The secret is in the timing since everything has to go relatively simultaneously. So in order to make it a "surprise" for the bad guys, keep those AT camouflaged and silenced until Opfor enters the "kill zone". All at once, let go with your arty, Tanks, Javelin, ADATS and any Air assets you may dispose of. As those Opfor BMPs and BTRs are hit, others will start dismounting enemy units on foot. This is the time to let loose with you General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) and any other support weapons you have had time to position in a proper 90 degree angle across the kill zone. If you have snipers, assign them priority targets such as enemy Machine Guns, Anti-Aircraft (A-A), grenade launchers, whatever is your priority at the time. For example, i use a lot of air units to move troops fast and to ambush armor. So in order to keep my choppers flying, i concentrate my snipers and gunners on A-A and neutralise their capabilities asap. Do not forget about the ZSUs! They will shread your helos to pieces so get them off the map fast. Try using no more than 50-60% of your assets for the main ambush since some of the enemy will surely slip-by. Try this and let me know how the tactic worked. Glad to be of some help. Cordially, Missionman
  10. Furthermore, the map utility works well on W2K Advance Server, no problems to report. Happy Playing, Missionman
  11. Fabulous! TacOps was already a great simulation when i started playing (probably around 1994-95), now i can only hope that i get my v.3 copy before the X-Mas holidays! Furthermore, I understand that v.4 is coming out within 6 months? Is this an accurate estimate and what will be the new aspects to be expected in v.4? Can members contribute to the game in anyway shape or form? Thank you, Missionman
  12. YES, Tacops scenarios reflecting real world geographic and strategics would be great. I am thinking about Desert Storm, Afghanistan (both in the '80 and now) and even limited conflicts like Grenada. Also, training grounds such as Camp Lejeune, Fort Bragg, Gagetown (Canada), Petawawa (Canada), Valcartier (Canada) I would be greatly interested to know where to get those scenarios and playable maps. Cordially, Missionman
  13. Greetings people, As a new member of Battlefront.com and an old player of Tacops, i'd like to know what are the major differences between the first Tacops version for Mac and Tacops version 3 for PC? Are there huge changes? Will i have to unlearn and re-learn everything? Also, a big dissapointement of mine back then was the lack of special force units, paras, amphibs etc. I remember the recon units as wel as the snipers but where are the others? Tacops is such a fabulous game. Looking forward to play version 3 and soon to come version 4. By the way, how can players contribute to the game advancement? Please let me know. Cordially, Missionman
