1.
quote:
Originally posted by Vanir Ausf B: What is the problem with this? Generally speaking it is more realistic to play with homogenous armored platoons and infantry forces. Taking one of this and two of that and one of those is cherry picking. If you are going to use Gerbils there is nothing wrong with using all Gerbils, if you are going to use Hetzers there is nothing wrong with using all Hetzers. Or am I misunderstanding what you said?

You make a valid point, in that if you are going to choose Gerbil troops, then it should be ALL Gerbil troops. But, HOW often are you choosing the "all gerbil" troop configuration. And how many of your victories were using this configuration? Maybe your nick should be "The Gerbil Master"

 3. Ok, somebody please provide me some facts, which indicates the Curchill VIII had a very very vunerable gun. Out of the past 10 times I have used this tank, It has had its gun damaged 8 out of those 10. Thats 80%. It is only a matter of time before its gun gets damaged. I highly doubt its gun was damaged that often in real life. Again, someone point me to some facts to prove this , or, BTS , fix it!
 4.
quote:
Originally posted by maxm2: Am I right that there are people out there who deliberately plan to capture a victory location in the last two turns and save significant numbers of units to do just that? I don't know about the rest of you, but I think I would only need to see that kind of gaminess once to move on to a new opponent. That's "no fun" in my book.

I would have to say, almost all games end with some sort of a rush. With at least the intention of disputing a flag, since it can be the deciding factor. Especially for ladder play. If you are playing for fun, a historical battle, then a rush doesnt really matter.
 5. Actually, a more realistic approach would be to have no time limit. The winner would be decided when there is a surrender or ceasfire. I still like the idea though of variable turns. Especially for QBs.
 6.
quote:
Originally posted by mensch: Thats easy, ME!.. let me explain. only to get shot by some cockey morons from Winnipeg... dammit. who are now happly singing "God Save the Beer and Backbacon" pumping my lads full of pure canadian lead (otherwise known as canadian pennies now a days) do i get a prize?

No, but you did make me laugh, eh!
 7. Ok then , a bad example. I doubt you would have done as well if it hadnt been at night.
 8. Attacking at night, against troops hiding in ambush, is near immpossible. Would you rather be walking blind into an ambush or sitting there in the dark, waiting to shoot the first thing you see?Not a good comparison.
 9.
quote:
Originally posted by Colonel_Deadmarsh: Somebody...anybody...please answer the question about the handicap parameter. Why isn't this used in A/D games? Wouldn't it equal everything out if the defender was given a 10% bonus? What is the drawback, if any, to using this? As for those who don't think my attempts at creating a more equal A/D scenario represents real life...fine. I'm not concerned with that. Since this is a ladder game, I just want to create a situation where both sides have an equal chance to win. That's all I'm concerned with here.

You cannot give the defender a 10% bonus. It only modifies the attacker +/-. This is why I said to give the defender more points (200) in a 2000/3000 point game. Which is basically the question you are asking. And yes, it has made a big difference, especially if you use it to buy a Concrete 75mm PB. So I did answer your question previuosly.
 10. I forgot to also mention. That by creating your own map. You get to view it first, which will influence your decision as to what to purchase.
 11.
quote:
Originally posted by Colonel_Deadmarsh: No, I'm not interested in historical battles, thank you. I'm interested in how people make ladder games as "fair" as possible for the defender since defending seems to be harder than attacking considering the overly high attack to defend ratio.

I have had good success in generating a more fair A/D by doing 3 things. 1. only 2 flags ( typically there are too many flags to defend) 2. Generate the map yourself, and make it a bit smaller than a QB would ( too much territory to defend cause your forces to be spread too thin) 3. give the defender an extra 200 points in a 2000/3000 point game. And they are to be used for fortifications( PB, Bunkers, mines) A Concrete bunker or two, does wonders for the defense. I have tried this a few times and it definitly gives the defender a big boost. I got tired of the usual A/D game, where the attacker just simply wipes out the defense. If you want, we can set one up, so you can try it for yourself.
 12.
quote:
Originally posted by PasssoP27: Thanks for the replies guys, the reason I asked is because of the annoyance factor of having c Churchill VIII with 40+ rounds of HE and a 95mm gun unwilling to even fire at a measly markIV as it had run out of hollow charge ammo.

Well, I dont think the AI ALWAYS uses the right shell. I had a Churchill 8 bounce shell after shell of HE off a Panzer mark IV. And refused to use his 3 Hollow shells. You would think after bouncing 1 shell, it would switch to the Hollow shell. Damn Panzer eventually damaged my gun.
 13. I would have to say that the chance of hitting a moving target( tanks, HT whatever) should be very low. Especially if it is moving across the field of view, and at high speed( 25-35 mph). Not to mention being 500 + m away. I find that the number of times a moving target gets hit, is too high. And the 1 hit wonders, should be very rare. This would require shooting with "lead". How easy would that be with a stationary gun. I even think it would be extremely difficult with a tank turret, of that time period. Anyone got facts to prove how easy or difficult it is to hit a moving target.
 14. My experience is 0-2. They seem to be very slow ROF and poor accuracy. Plus they seem to be like a big magnet for incoming rounds of any kind. I'll never waste my points on them again.
 15. Some games have to be installed from the virtual drive. They look only to the cdrom that did the install. I have been using virtual drive for quite some time, and find it very good. If you have the hard drive space it is better than burning cds for backups. With the full functioning product that you purchase, it allows you to make selective copying. this way you dont have to copy everything on the cd, like demos and other junk. It also will do compression, which is usually in the 20-30% range. One thing I do is to edit the shortcut to the program, to auto load the virtual cd and run the pgm. This way I never have to manually insert the virtual cd images using the gui. This is useful if you have many virtual cds, and are switching between them.
 16. Is it possible to change the number of turns for a battle, once it has been started? Can the text file be edited some way to change this? I have a game where I would like to increase the number of turns, after realizing the game will end too soon.
 17. Maybe not, but my point is , if you are trying to make backups of your cds, dont bother with a burner. Buy a big HD and use Virtual Drive or similiar type pgm. The added benefit is no more disk swapping in and out, scratches, and faster pgm in most games.( HD access is way faster than CD access). Plus, latest version of Virtual drive lets you make selective Vurtual cds(choose only what you want. Dont have to copy whole cd. Some cds have useless junk on them like demos, browsers, etc) Also lets you copy audio cds, if interested. I sound like a salesman for this company(farstone). Ok, no more free advertising. I'll shutup.
 18. Quit wasting your time and money on burning cds. Get virtual drive. Burning doesnt always work, and you can still scratch them too! You cant scratch a HD. Unless you ripp it open maybe.
 19. Get Virtual drive, from www.farstone.com Download the demo then buy it if you like it. It makes a cd image on your HD, and creates a virtual cdrom.
 20. Another very good point. Also, I have recaptured some of my troops. But they are unarmed. i am sure they could find a gun somewhere, with all the dead and wounded lying around.
 21. Ya, those guys were beer chuggin, just before the battle. Prob gave them a morale boost also!
 22. I agree here, I find it hard to believe anyone in a battle wouldnt at least have a pistol. Even the cook would use his butcher knife if he had to defend himself. Is there any documentation on whether crews were pistoless.
