  1. Without seeing what's happening, it's impossible to judge whether you've found something which is wrong. If it's wrong, the next question would be if it's "accidentally" wrong or "intentionally" wrong. For "intentional", remember HOW spotting work: each unit gets polled at intermittent intervals to find out what it can see. In between these polling times, it sees nothing. (The code only checks LOS at those moments.) The polling frequency and start times are different for different units. There are a LOT of good reasons for this, rather than having every unit continuously check every LOS. Something about computers and cpu cycles. Also, soft factors are critical, as is posture. The LOS table has a large role to play. Terrain obscurations are frequently found to be the cause of mysterious LOS issues. Trees are left off, smoke is left off, etc., by accident. The game is not perfect. So, you've either hit a seam which highlights some of these design issues, you've had a particularly odd run of luck (which happens), or you've found something that could be fixed. Pix, savegames, or footage are required for any further analysis.
  2. Reminiscent of the Clinton administration ordering the use of inert ordnance by the USAF during strikes against Hussein's (Saddam, that is), AAA sites during Op Deny Flight.
  3. c3k lay sleeping, his dreams filled with thoughts of his pixeltruppen climbing over the bodies of their comrades to fulfill his orders, when he suddenly snapped awake. "I thought I heard something," he said, as he came to instant alert. "Did someone say "flare"?" http://community.battlefront.com/topic/91464-cmn-i-need-flares/
  4. Look at my AAR vs DMS. Not a test, but I rarely spotted him till he fired.
  5. Most airburst rounds are set electromagnetically, as fast as they are loaded. It's part of the fire control system. The nosecone spring-wound timer is no longer used. Electronic timers count the rotations. Knowing the rpm, muzzle velocity, and range to target, yields the number of spins needed for accurate airbursting. That number is imparted to the fuse as it is loaded. Ken
  6. Gah! Driver swap for gpu is a matter of 10 minutes, tops. Did you accidentally delete some mobo drivers???
  7. Interesting. That same fuse is listed as being used for the same round when fired by the Tunguska in anti-air. Perhaps it needs to be adjusted. Some more references would be needed...
  8. CO2 in high concentrations produces an urgent need to breathe. It has a physiological choking sensation. CO is, as mentioned, the silent killer. (Insert monograph about evolutionary response to CO2 and normal aspiration vs. CO as a combustion by-product, here. )
  9. Yeah... Here's how it works. Game time 1700, setup phase. I start the game. I tilt the camera up and watch the in-game sun. It slowly descends towards the west, and then the stars come out. 10 hours later, the game still shows 1700 (because the clock is stopped). However, my game screen shows that it is dark. Like, 0300 dark. Okay, because it IS 0300 in the game world. You can stop a clock, but you cannot stop heavenly bodies from their movements. Finally, I click "go". The game clock goes to 1700 + 1 micro-second and the sun repositions itself to its appropriate 1700 position. It is daylight. My guys, ordered to low crawl under cover of night, are ridiculously exposed and they all die. Like they always do... The sun moves even when the clock does not...
  10. ^^^ Great reminder! I have not. I won't have a chance to check for a few more days. DMS and I have exchanged the passwords we used, so I'll just load his turns and see if any of his units with a laser designator/ranger had LOS to it.
  11. Nicely done. Of course, seeing the times for different weapons (60mm mtrs on up...) would REALLY be good. Ken
  12. Thanks. Every turn had a LOT of action. Your questions: In no particular order... Red Team A's nemesis was the BTR to the left of the bridge (from my perspective). The one that later got destroyed by the 40mm grenades fired by Doomvee. The BTR-82 has the 2A72 30mm cannon. It fires the same family of 30mm ammo as many other Russian vehicles. The fuze is the A-670. See http://bulcomersks.com/index.php/military-products/ammunition-components/50-ammunition-components/fuzes/430-fuze-a-670m It is dual purpose AAA and ground target capable. The airbust fuzing is part of its capabilities. If it CANNOT be fuzed to airburst at ground targets, that would be surprising and need some solid references. Arty smoke can, indeed, include counter-thermal aerosols. Traditionally, the US has not used that type of smoke (for defensive suites or on-call) because our adversaries (Iraq 1991, 2003, Afghanistan through now) do not have the thermal vision devices we have (at least, as widely used). So, we've used optically opaque, thermally transparent, smoke. Blind them, let us see. In a fight against a tier 1 or 2 power, the need to block thermals would mean that the appropriate smoke would be used. Regards, Ken
  13. It's just a flesh wound! My nurse will assure you I am quite alive.
  14. It was instructive, to me, how well hidden DMS' men remained. A UAV or two would've given me a huge amount of info. But, then, his Tunguska would've just shot them down...
  15. IanL can hear it when you talk aboit him like that! That is what you meant by "dirty laundry"? You're very welcome and thank you for the kind words.
  16. I've just read through this, very quickly. I think it's obvious that DMS fought a very good match. In fact, I'd give him the tactical trophy for this one. Were there any reasonable victory condition, he'd be the winner. Congrats, and it was a pleasure. Ken
  17. Gotta go, so not right now. (Away from gaming rig.) But my high score unit was Blue 2, with 42 kills. I think there's a bit of "kill-bug". My Red Jav unit killed 2 vehicles but shows "No Enemy". This has been fun. I've laughed at almost every turn. Michael/DMS is a great one to play. Start pestering him with pbem requests!
  18. I've been having a lot of fun with this one. Tactics? Bah! I laugh at your tactics. Some nice moments which showcase some modern weapon capabilities, and some ugly moments which show what happens with carelessness. Ken
  19. In summation: First, Michael (DMS) has been a great opponent. Thank you for an engaging pbem. The game? Well, I'm in hospital, with a buxom nurse, and DMS is cowering in the corner of an abandoned building. Where would you rather be? Yeah, me too: I win. Just kidding! C'mon. Sheesh. By the rules as written, this must be a draw. Neither side got their leader on the bridge. Oh, IanL? Don't make me laugh! Really? You thought he would count? Pshaw. I realized he needed motivation, so I gave him the "mission" as a bit of a carrot. In a tactical sense, DMS must get the tip of the hat. His early smoke and mid-game arty were inspired. I merely threw men into the fight. Thanks for watching. Ken
  20. Even more than you know! I have to leave for 5 days in just an hour. The last turn may be delayed!
  21. Turn 29 2:00 to 1:00 The Penultimate Tumultuous Turn (For IanL's bridge rush, you need to cue the music from Mission: Impossible.) Whew! One more minute left! Will DMS pull it out? Will c3k arise from the grave? Will IanL's bridge rush mean anything? What of Blue 2 and 3? Find out soon... Ken
  22. Turn 28 3:00 to 2:00 White 2's Rampage! [/url Well, it would've been good if it'd worked! Blue 1 will lay down some hurt on that building... Final minute, coming up! Ken out.
