My recollection is Steve once explained they don't do Friday or weekend releases for logisitical reasons that made sense whenever he explained it. I'd thought he'd included Monday as well in the cross-through list, but if the list of prior release days on this topic is correct, that obviously isn't the case.

Appreciate the heads up, Steve.

Looks great. BenPark made one that's in the repository somewhere. I've got to revisit that with tanksalot's buildings.
-
I have never had any issues with the CM graphics - to me I dont understand what everyone complains about.
I'm not getting this either. Looks fine to me.

Just remind me which one was the second mission?
Hill 1209, I think.
-
Just so there's no confusion; I didn't get through the second mission on the first try. On the first page of this thread I stated that I had been stuck on it for months. Not playing it every day, of course, but making an attempt, getting wiped out, getting disgusted, then putting it away for a few weeks until I'd forgotten how hopeless it seemed. I tried up the center several times, around the left ... when all else fails ...

Is this something that always happens, but I haven't noticed it before?

Pretty much. Your camera has to be in a position from which the sound may be heard. Yes, you can run around the map and come pretty darned close to where the mortars are based on sound.

From the set up zone, move everything along the road to the RIGHT, then send everything along that right side of the map up the hill. Avoid the center rock wall, avoid that little gully to the left of the rock wall. You can make it to that road halfway up the hill. There are enemy troops on the right side of that hill. A combination of shoot-n-scoot from the HT and artillery will take care of the entrenched ones impeding your fruther advance. You'll have opposition on the side of the hill higher up overlooking your troops once you get to the road, but you can keep them suppressed and get your force within the shadow of that hill. Once there, you can work your way up the hill and isolate units by using the terrain for cover.

On it. YeeeHaww!

TBH
There is at least one covered approach to get you halfway up the hill. From that point you can gather your forces and grind down the isolated enemy units piecemeal through use of the terrain. I was beating my head against the wall going up the middle.
My experience was that the remaining missions did not involve the head bludgeoning I received on the second mission.

All good advice above. Personally, I haven't touched any over the older iterations of CM since CMBN, but CMBO/BB/AK kept many of us going for many many years so I couldn't say those older games wouldn't be worth your time, but the play is so different from CMBN/FI, very little would carry over.
Try the demos, and WELCOME. CM is addictive in the extreme.

After spending a fair amount of time beta testing and then having exams and assignments plus my 2 year old son to look after I haven't been able to spare a lot of time for actually playing and enjoying the game! Have I been missing out or what!!
What a campaign! Immersive, challenging, pretty, and thoroughly rewarding. Kudos to the designers. It feels so totally different to anything in Normandy, which is what you would expect obviously, but to produce something that portrays the epic struggle that was the Italian campaign in 1943 so well is remarkable in my honest opinion. I'm part way through the campaign, or rather I was until I foolishly deleted my two save games Now I have to start again.. But I'm not complaining.
Time for a brew and then another onslaught no doubt!
Damned Straight! Literally JUST finished it after months of inertia on the second mission. Fantastic maps - very visually appealing and tactically interesting.

1. Space Lobsters of Doooooom!
That was released 5+ years back as "Drop Team".
-
Same here. I really used to enjoy the atmosphere (no pun intended) added by thick fog.
-
[MISSION 2] FINALLY(!) found a covered approach. Mission 3 is pretty fun so far.
-
The next one (Hill 1209)? I´ve been stuck halfway up the hill for months now, trying to pull myself together to finish it.
Same. Just getting green troops ground down. First mission was was able to utilize terrain to find *some* defilade while isolating enemy positions. Not happening on here. Every approach has withering fire sufficient to melt my wet behind the ear troops.

There's always "my pretty pony" if wargames offend one's sensibilities.
Here, let me point you in the right direction: http://www.hasbro.com/mylittlepony/en_us/

Raising again: 50

Numerous incidents of believing a street or building to be clear only to have multiple squads shredded. I imagine this is pretty common, especially relatively early on in scenarios before much contact info has been gleened.
-
I have checked it and it is available.
You should check the month because Airborne infantry is not available in August (both airborne divisions returned to England in mid July)
You must chose "airborne infantry" or "Mix" in the "Combat Force" selection as well. It is not included in a "Infantry only" selection.
That was it: had "Infantry only" selected. Oldtimer's disease.
-
It's been awhile since I've played CMBN, but weren't airborne infantry a force selection option in QBs? Don't see 'em available on v2.0.
-
Maybe the Gov. should nationalize game updates since they seem to be unaffordable for an alarming number of citizens and non-citizens.
-
It's $10 whole farkin' dollars. That will get you a couple filet-0-fish sandwiches, an order of fries, and a milk shake nowadays (not even sure on the milk shake). See whether V2.0 upgrade or the value meal from McD's + 1 sandwich is more satisfying. Seriously, b@#$ing about $10 for a major update including features people have been screaming for since CMBN was released is absurd.

Heh... I was counting on Steve's uncontrollable urge to contradict me to lure him into a weekend release. Muahahahahaa!!
