1. I haven't been around the board lately, so I'm not sure if anything has been posted on the year-old tourney (though I did do a search on NSSBII and NSSB and came up empty)... Anyway, I'm in the final round and everything seems to have ground to a halt. Anyone else still playing out there? Ace
2. I just got me a relatively new Toshiba laptop, and it seems that the fog and high-res smoke is not being displayed properly. Here's the video specs I've got handy: Graphics Controller S3 Savage/IX™ 3D Accelerator Graphics Accelerator 128-bit BitBLT Local Bus AGP bus (w/side band) Video Memory 8MB SGRAM integrated Anyone have any suggestions on how I might get the fog to show up? If it can't be done it's no big deal, since I still have my desktop which works just fine with CM... [ 01-15-2002: Message edited by: Ace ]

3. So, where is everyone else in the lost... er... last round? I've heard a nasty rumor that it's just me Cubes and vonLucke left... oh well, at least I'm guaranteed a medal... It's too bad, cause the map that Menschie made for us is a doozie... Thanks for all the hard work Mensch!
4. I'm still here, but I didn't need to check out this thread, since your dossiers arrived just fine - Nice work! Ace
5. Just took a quick look at the scores, and it seems like all 6 finalists were in the original Nord Divsion (Alpha and Bravo). Just a coincidence, I'm sure
6. BUMP Anyone know which images I'm talking about?
7. I recently cleaned out a bunch of files from my hard drive, and I seem to have misplaced (erased) a set of CM desktop screens that I downloaded some time ago and can't remember where I got them. Does anyone out there know which site has them (I think they were a set of 4, IIRC) Thanks Derek
8. Elvis, your comment about imposing one system on another cuts both ways. If you are playing a player who wants to save movies regularly in the game, then he/she is going to be spending a lot of time renaming files. I'd rather have YOU take an extra couple seconds to clear out the files at the end of a game than ME spending 10 secs per movie that I want to save... An average 30 turn battle probably only takes up 15 MB on the hard drive. If you don't have enough empty space to handle it, you need a new computer
9. I'm back... lost track of things out here - life's getting pretty crazy... will try to wrap this one up quick...
10. Were there any command bonuses? If the Brit Airbornes had a HQ with a bonus, they would have a false start by 7 seconds...
11. vs. Mensch - Walked all over him with big spikey steel toed boots™... vs. SuperSlug - lost a nail biter - it was a draw, but the score was slightly in his favour. If only the weather had been better. I had firmly entrenched myself within the hilltop town, but the weather limited the LOS, which limited the effectiveness of my many MG teams... vs. Jadayne - we've caught each other in flanking maneuvers on both sides of the map - should be interesting... Hey Mensch - what's the URL with all the scores, etc?
12. Vancouver, BC Canada, though I'm heading to Calgary this weekend...
13. You can put me down as either a Canadian sacrificial lamb or as a german ankle-biter (my last name, Knoechel, is german and means ankle or joint I think) Derek
14. I seem to have hit a bit of a lull in my other two games - I think due to technical problems on my end... Any other updates?
15. I have the distinct pleasure of reporting that Menschie's Frenchies have raised the white flag and will be spending the rest of war in a German POW camp... 137 battered Mensches to 28... Score 95-5... Now I don't feel so bad about my imminent loss to Sluggie...
16. One thing that could have happened might have been that the movement path you drew may have intersected an impassible tile (marsh, woods, rough, pines...). The AI then takes it upon itself to redraw the route to get to the same final point. The AI may have plotted one of the points off the map - foolishly thinking that the M4 would come back...
17. My turn for an update: vs: SuperSlug - this game WAS going swimmingly, I had established a solid hold on the town in the hills, and had successfully avoided a brutal artillery barrage on the hill to my left where the other VL lay. I tried to race back into the woods on the hill once the arty stopped, but Sluggy was too quick for me. Then, instead of withdrawing, I underestimated his forces in those woods and stuck around one turn too long... I hit his forces with some heavy arty, but not enough to knock him off the hill - my second platoon had to retreat. The best I can hope for now is a draw - only 5 turns left... vs. Mensch: I LOVE this game . I used a heavy smoke barrage to get my troops into position in the town in the center of the map and have since been repelling all the invading French forces... I was fortunate to have a LOT of heavy buildings in which to take residence... I got lucky early on when a flanking maneuver by his Stuart and M8? (can't remember) was sniffed out by my StuH - knocking them both out with one shot! He just tried another flanking maneuver on the other side of the map with an M10, but I was lucky enough to see it coming and laid an ambush that was sprung last turn by three 75 mm HTs coming from three directions, the first one killing the M10 with the first shot. I'm sending a squad after the crew as we speak - don't need any enemy eyes behind my lines... Mensch, you can start writing that letter to their families now... Mensch sent a mass rush into town under the cover of smoke, but has been generally repelled by my waiting troops. I estimate his losses thus far as a full company, with mine less than a platoon. He lost a full platoon trying to get into a church held by a couple MGs and a platoon of men. There's still a flurry of activity in the left-most part of the town, but I'm sending reinforcements to stamp out the smoldering embers He's got a couple of M20s sitting in the town right now. They won't last long once the smoke clears... MUAHAHAHA If only all my games could go this way, I'd be in that OTHER tournament. vs. Jadayne: Still early - contact hasn't been made yet. 18. I was up real late last night working/playing CM, and I went for a walk around the block at dawn. I turned the corner heading east and was struck by how realistic the sky looked, almost identical to the dawn sky in CM... Can't remember which sky mods I have, but good ol' Mother Nature seems to lend her stamp of approval...
19. vs. SuperSlug: The rain is coming down hard resulting in limited visibility. I have two vehicle kills so far - the only problem is one of them was my own... It was a case of trusting the LOS targetting line rather than getting down in behind the vehicle. Although I could see the building, apparently my 75mm HE shells couldn't make it over the ridge right in front of me. I sat in horror watching the my vehicle first button up, then get SHOCKED, and finally burst into flames... I just hope the rest of the game goes better than that... vs. Mensch: Much better weather conditions with excellent visibility, but unfortunately the flags sit closer to his setup zone. It's been a while since we finished a turn, but I don't mind, since I have to concentrate on the above match... vs. Jadayne: Negotiations have stalled, and we've called for an arbitrator to determine our battle conditions With my luck I'll get a map covered in mud and no roads and be dealt a bunch of Stugs... Ace out.
20. I guess Wolfpack and I are on the same wavelength... scary. We'll see which thread sinks and which one floats...
21. I guess since the old version may be lost in the netherworld of the blown server, it might be best to start up another thread. Which brings me to the next point - do we know who has made it into the second round yet? I was hoping to see the answer when I came to the forum, but alas, was foiled by the crash of '01...
22. OK, I know that this vehicle's high survival rate against tanks has been discussed (and I believe it was due to the AIs difficulty in deciding whether or not to use HE or AT rounds, but this is ridiculous!!! I am just playing a certain scenario that gives you a couple of CRACK bazookas, and they targetted the Sd Kfz 7/1 from a distance of less than 50m. The Sd Kfz 7/1 survived 10 AT rounds from the bazookas without a scratch, and wasted my zooks one at a time over the course of two turns... What gives??? I had played this scenario earlier and was able to take out two Tigers with the second shot each time, yet I can't take out the bloody flak-vehicle... Anyone else see this behaviour? Must be a bug or something...
23.
quote:
Originally posted by ccc343: I can crest a hill with 2 sherman 105's and two sherman 75's, engage a panzer IV from 250 meters and have shell after shell bounce off the panzer's armor while 1 shot from the panzer takes my boys out every time.

One important thing to remember is that bigger is not necessarily better... For example the 105mm Sherman is not a better tank killer than the 75mm. The 105 is a great anti-infantry tank, due to the blast radius of it's HE rounds. It generally does not have anti-tank rounds, and thus won't be effective at killing tanks. The best way to determine which tank to use to attack other tanks is to look at the info screen (click on the unit and press enter). There you can see the penetrative power of the tank's various ammo types at different ranges. You can also use this screen to identify the armor thickness of the enemy (click on it and hit enter). If the penetrative power of your anti-tank rounds exceeds the frontal armor of the enemy, you're all set. If not, you will probably have to maneuver for a flank, or even a rear shot to take out the tank... Hope this helps...
24. I like the new look of the forum, but I'm a little disappointed by the speed (or lack of it) of the search engine. It seems to be taking a lot longer than it did on the old forum. In this case, I was just looking for a subject title, and was still waiting 5 minutes to churn out 19 hits. I shudder to think what would happen if I was looking for something in the body of the thread...
