  1. The other way you can do it to prepare for a cease-fire. I would never surrender just because my opponent wanted me to. If he didn't want to fight it out, then he could call for a cease-fire too, which means you won't lose as many points as if you surrendered...
  2. The scenario is a blast. It took me a while, but I finally was able to kill the KT. Even better was the fact I had a FT team waiting for the crew as it bailed
  3. Thanks karch! The apps work great. I've reduced the explosion volumes to 80%, and normalizing the sounds seems to get rid of most of the distortion. Now if only I can turn the volume lower than the lowest setting on the iMac - I can handle the level, but sometimes my girlfriend can't I guess that's what headphones are for. Derek
  4. The pack is pretty cool, but I'm trying to tone down the explosions somewhat, since it gets near impossible to hear anything anywhere on the map during an arty barrage, even a 81mm one... Any hints on how to do this with a Mac (dealing with resouce files instead of wavs)? Any good free/shareware out there to do it? BTW I posted this in the technical support area since I did a search there and found nothing. Didn't think of checking in here until it was too late
  5. I recently loaded the sound pack that came with MDMP-1, and have found that the artillery explosions (201-221) are a bit too loud when compared to the rest of the sounds in the game. I can't hear anything else when these explosions are going off, even when I'm working in a sector way on the other side of the map. Even the smoke 81mm rounds are making huge sounds... I do like the sounds (they're all pretty cool), just not the relative levels. Is their any way for me to modify the volume level of these specific sounds and then return them to the game? I have an iMac, so I am dealing with a resource file, not the individual wav files. Are there any share/freeware apps out there that might be useful? Thanks in advance, Derek
  6. Does One Click work for the Mac, or is it just for the PC gamers?
  7. maybe it's only if the TC gets hit then?
  8. I believe it means that one of your crew members, presumably the tank commander is incapacitated. If the TC is taken out, there's no one to survey the battlefield. I'm assuming that if another member of the crew was taken out that the TC would perform that role, again resulting in a buttoned tank.
  9. Figured it out. I installed the Open GL 1.2.1 module. I guess I had an older version that wasn't performing up to par. Strange that my initial install (a couple of weeks ago) worked fine without the new OpenGL version. I guess this is a good way to pad my posts - answer my own questions... Just need to do it a few more times to become a member
  10. Hi, I just reloaded CM on my iMac, since I had put in too many mods and wanted to start from scratch. Unfortunately, one (or two) of the scattered tree BMPs seems to not be fully transparent. There is a purplish pixelation occuring throughout the rest of the picture area around the tree. It only occurs from the lower camera angles... Anyone else see it before or know what I should do?
  11. The americans tend to make it to the finish line first, but the germans always seem to squeak out a tactical victory... I wonder if one could award points for completing the lap first - might even it out a bit...
  12. Tried your monster truck madness scenario. Hilarious! The best was one time through when all of the Americans were wiped out (along with half the germans) by one of the fighter bombers just as they were getting off the start line...
  13. A friend of mine used it once so I guess I've stolen it from him. I'm originally from Newfoundland, and we're known for cod (or the lack of it now...). I couldn't really think of anything else at the time, although I could use something like "vcents'" handle since my last name is Knoechel which often gets mispronounced "k-nickel"... maybe "no quarter" or "fifth quarter" or something like that would be a good one... I'd change it, but I'd be back to square one on my posts (I'm close to becoming a member...)
  14. Just killed a Marder with my 50 cal MG on my Sherman in a QB too...
  15. It might become a little annoying once the enemy starts to seriously advance upon your position. Your spotter will be busy shouting out "enemy tank, enemy SMG squad, oh sh*t enemy flamethrower! AARGHHHH!" I do agree with you that it tends to be a hassle to keep an eye on large maps...
  16. Still pretty new, but I'd have to say 3. 1) 3 2) 2 3) 23 4) 10 5) 7
  17. Thanks for the "run"down... Next time they'll be bustin their @sses home as soon as I see the enemy!
  18. My main point was that I got jumpy and abandoned my original plan too quickly. There was no need for me to get my spotter to target the troops (1 platoon or so) advancing in the center, since there was still a large expanse of ground for them to cover that was within sight of a platoon that I had waiting in cover toward the center of the map. I also had a platoon in reserve if things got too hot. Fionn's AARs are great resources too. Some of the ideas take a while to perfect, especially the timing of withdrawing your troops effectively. I obviously left my guys hanging too long, and it cost me dearly. The worst part - I think that had the right plan. The attacker committed at least a company, probably closer to two, to my left flank. Had I been ready with the arty as originally planned, my life would've been much easier...
  19. I'm just learning out the hard way that it's best to form a good defense and stick with it or else you'll be up the creek pretty quick. I'm currently playing a 1500 point defense as the americans, and could see only two main routes of attack - one on each flank. My left had a reverse slope position in some woods, behind which were additional wooded positions. On the right were additional wooded areas surrounding a fairly large open expanse. I put one platoon on my right with a HMG and a mortar, along with a zook if there happened to be any tanks coming my way. On my left I tried to set up my main defense, combining a nice little arty ambush with some heavy weapons. The plan was to have an advance platoon keep an eye on the crest of the hill then pull back to a main line supported by a MMG, .50 cal, halftracks and a M10. Unfortunately, the computer only dealt me one spotter, and I had to cover two flanks. My solution was to had it able to see one flank but not the other (target it out of line of site). Since I was weaker on my right, I figured it might be best to have the arty come down quicker on that side if I needed it. To make a long story short, I had the arty trained on the left, then switched it to center where a platoon plus some MGs had camped out. Unfortunately, the very next turn some germans came over the ridge on my left. I decided to try to hold them with my advance platoon for a turn or two, but this ended in disaster. My reserve platoon was sent in to reinforce the main line, but is also getting wiped out. The arty is now falling on the germans, but I'm too weak to counterattack. A classic case of letting yourself get distracted by the opposition rather than sticking to your plan. I could have wiped out his forces if I stuck with my original defense. Instead, I'll be lucky to come out with a minor victory, if at all...
  20. There is a section in the manual (p. 88) that describes adjusting fire. It says that you can try to retarget and if the target line stays green it will be a quick response. If the target line is blue, then it will be the same as a issuing a complete new order (i.e. longer time). Apparently you can cancel this "blue" order and retain your old one by hitting the space bar. I've never got it to work for me though... The only other way I can think of doing it and actually figuring out the time it would take is "gamey" and might even be called worse by the all the veterans out there. Unless, of course, it's how they actually do it . You save your game, scope out your new spot - if you don't like the answer, quit the scenario and restart from where you just saved it. I really don't like the idea of doing it, but it's the only way I can think of
  21. I wouldn't mind trying it either. You can send it to my e-mail in the profile. Thanks.

Here goes... I might not survive the exchange... I thought I would point out that Bona Vista is actually spelled Bonavista. Not really a big deal, but I noticed Vancouverisland wasn't spelled wrong. I'm proud to admit I'm a Newfoundlander and that I know the difference (insert Newfie joke here).
  23. Great news that the depot is up and running again! I've still been having some problem with some of the downloads experiencing connection failures before they're complete. I've tried a couple of times without success. Some of the files that didn't quite make it: MCMMMv1.5, velvettouch grass mod, germanflags mod. Anyone else having problems? The files I have been able to download look great, however...
