  1. The introduction of the 'death clock' brought with itself a very unpleaseant side effect. Tanks frequently waste a lot of AP rounds on an already dead target. Lots of times, I know already that the target is dead, yet my tank is shooting at it again and again. This is also very dangerous if there are more enemies around. I would not remove the death clock from the game, but some improvements would be welcome. Suggestions: 1. Tanks should catch fire more easily. A burning tank is a rare sight on the CM battlefield. Even a tank penetrated numerous times with large caliber AP (75mm+), catches fire very rarely. In all the accounts I read, I read about burning tanks and I find it strange that they burn so rarely in CM. 2. If a tank on the move is hit, then stops and does not turn turret, it should be assumed dead by the Tac Ai. 3. Maximum time for death clock should be reduced. If the target does not shoot back its dead. If I can see this, the TacAI should see this too.
  2. I support a campaign game idea. Just look at how many people were attracted to Biltong's campaign rules. I also checked them out, but it is just too much hassle for me. Also any kind of campaign does not have to follow through 5 years of war. Rather it should be distinct campaigns stretching through several months. Eg: Barbarossa, Uranus, etc. This would be quite realistic as well.
  3. Battlefront, please reduce the chance for wet terrain!!! It is wet all the time. Overcast should not neccessarily mean damp or wet. Also, vehicle turning speed should be looked at IMHO.
  4. In the game tanks and generally vehicles are turning very slowly. I have seen tanks, in fact been sitting in a T55-AM for a year and they turn pretty darn fast. I dont think the basics have changed this much in that 10 years. Other vehicles are turning even worse. I hade one HT that spent 3 whole turns turning around. It was green, but even then, this is a bit too much.
  5. By deleting, I meant the generated results not the program.
  6. I wrote a small PHP program that generates quick battle parameters. It is very nice for multiplayer games, just choose the random game type. (The campaign game type is used for our ongoing multiplayer campaign which we are currently running. ) Try it out here: http://www.dongo.hu/battlegen/test/index.php I will delete it form time to time so dont expect it to stay out for long. Special rules and some of the weather will have a major rework soon. Enjoy! Comments are welcome.
  7. Fires have serious problems in the game IMHO. 1. Tanks burn too rarely. And this cannot be a game balance problem, because it has no effect on surroundings. 2. It is very-very hard to light any kind of fire. This may be a game balance issue though. Game commanders would not hesitate to burn down entire villages or towns. Although in real life sometimes troops did not hesitate either.
  8. Nice list, 1 more: Hiding your platoon (split to half squads) and setting an ambush arc for one half squad. Enemy platoon approaches hiding place and sends ahead a half-scoud. Your half squad in ambush kills the recon half-squad. Now the enemy platoon will use its superior firpower and route your half squad. So now you set another half squad an ambush arc. Repeat.... Unless the attacker can use some MG or HE suppressive fire set to the area, he is screwed.
  9. Flamethrower teams are close to useless on the offense. They are very hard to get into position. because they are slow, too easy to spot and prioritized by the TacAI. For the same money you are better off with MGs or infantry guns.
  10. We Hungarian CM fans are running are own multiplayer campaign. Actually it is the second one. We may decide to take the next campaign to international.
  11. Most of the time the AI tanks are easy prey for a human player. It is true that it would be very hard to program a competent tank AI. What you can do is: 1. Play infantry only games against the computer. 2. Play tank battles against a human opponent. 3. Play only scenarios agains the computer.
  12. Mechanized of course Light trees, mod hills prohibitive to armor?
  13. It was 1500 points axis probe. Ran it 10 times. 1 pz4/3, and thats it
  14. This occured to me while playing some QBs with the computer purchasing for both sides in 1941 Aug. I noticed that the Axis AI does not buy tanks. At most he buys, 1 decent tank (pz3 or pz4), and then it proceeds to buy armored cars. Sometimes he throws in some Somua 35 or pz2. These were all mechanized, combined arms battles. On the russian side, every time the AI starts with a platoon of tanks!!! Sometimes its tincan T26, but in the majority it is T43 or KV1. AI purchase would be very nice to have for more historical fights, but in its current state it is unusable. Could the purchase AI be optimized for next patch? I think it should always start with a decent tank platoon.
  15. The novels of Sven Hassel are also very good. He fought the war in a penal battallion, mostly in the east.
  16. I have one good source regarding hungarian infantry equipment. This is the book of Bela Erdelyi: Blood and Steel He was a company commander during the withdrawal fighting in the winter of 42-43. He lists available equipment of his company several times. Unfortunately he does not give actual weapon types. Here is one example: Officers: 5 Men: 130 (4 platoons) Pistols: 5 Machine guns: 1 (7600 rds for it) Light machine guns: 9 SMGs: 22 Rifles: 91 Hand grenades: 500 So indeed, they had at least 1 SMG per squad. The author mentions a special squad who had only SMGs. They were assigned to the most dangerous tasks. He also mentions that the russians had a lot of SMGs. He regarded SMGs as superior to rifles. It is interesting that in CMBB SMGs are really not that good. You are better of with rifles in most situations. He also mentiones that the weather was extreme cold, around -30 C, and of course the ground was covered in snow. This should also be fixed for QBs. This is the south region of the front. BTW, did anyone know, that Hungary was about to attack Romania in the summer of 1940? Both armies were ordered to the common border. This was in the end prevented by german diplomatic intervention.
  17. Well, I started out, or rather wanted to start a campaign using these rules. I gave up. It is just too complicated and not explained in detail well enough. This whole thing would be much more useful if someone wrote a program for this. It would roll your parameters and would keep track of your core force. Until then, count me out.
  18. Just for completeness I list this here: Ground conditions (snow) are lost when you load up a saved quick battle map.
  19. If the weather is snowing, then yes, you will get snowy ground. But if you create a snowy map in the editor, save it then load it up, then the ground conditions will be lost! This is still broken in 1.01 Madmatt: Thanks for your answer.
  20. KwazyDog I really appreciate that you reacted to this, thank you! I just tested 20 QBs in the south. 10 in 1941 December - 0 times snow on the ground 10 in 1943 January - 0 times snow on the ground And in both occasions, the game will default to COLD weather. At the Don in January 1943 it was around -30 Celsius. More like extreme cold to me. And the ground was snow covered.
  21. Unbelievable. People generally on this forum can debate miniscule details in 100+ post threads, but a big realism fault like this goes unnoticed. BUMP!!!
  22. Started about 10 battles, 41 december, north always had snow, south and central not. Will do some more testing and will let you know.
  23. I always max out on artillery and support. If I attack I also max out on tanks. Not so much on vehicles because they are nearly totally useless in the face of AT rifles. Yes, my buying habits have definetely changed. I did not like arty in CMBO that much, because it was hard to use and the effects were often not worth the purchase. But arty really makes a difference now. Also machineguns. They were not too effective, but now I buy as many as I can afford.
  24. I have opened a topic on this, but as my topics seem to die a short death, I'll post it here as well. QBs should have snow on the ground in ALL regions during the winter months. Or at least a high chance to have snow. Right now, the south and central regions will only have snow in the winter if you set the weather to snow. This is completely unrealistic and I think it is a bigger issue than tank X not having the correct number of MGs. Yet, this is overlooked all the time!!!
