  1. Yeah thanks Elamar : ) BD6 Sheesh! JonS - I have written to the course you mentioned offering to send all the links for the lying bastard so that they can explain why it is mandatory reading : ) This is a cracker: If anyone is interested I am going to collate all the info, and take copies in case of deceased sites, so that it can be an archive putting it together as much as possible. and just in case you think he misremembered the actual three meetings that happened: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ynews/ynews_ts1787
  2. http://hnn.us/articles/504.html I am not generally in favour of censorship or book burning but Ambrose is a disgrace. I am tempted to see what my local libraries have and see what the Chief Librarians feel about a liar and a plagiarist being a beneficiary of people trust.
  3. Again - I post it here as it is more likely to stand out amongst you guys. http://warchronicle.com/correcting_the_record/ambrose_coxswains.htm
  4. http://www.network54.com/Forum/47207/thread/1014276924/thoughts+about+track+damage This is fun but about Tiger maintenance in general http://www.panzergrenadier.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=10618
  5. Whilst track damage is probably more - it breaks it doesn't break - the cumulative damage might also reflect other non-track damage so the result may be correct overall. I can see why BF might avoid having break/no break as a design feature.
  6. http://www.battlefront.com/community/forumdisplay.php?f=76 or possibly on the opponent finder forum
  7. There is damage for hitting bocage and other objects. Randomly cumulative. I believe wooden fences don't cost. : )
  8. If you search under my name and use the search word bocage I have written about it for the last 6 years. The nuts and bolts of it are that it was a morale booster/PR exercise and that against proper bocage a difficult exercise. However I do provide quotes etc : ) And somewhere or other a US tanker wrote about the problems and difficulties ... and I I find that book again ....... BTW if you are cynical you might believe that the points of penetration were pre-chosen - and even then one came to grief - which argues expectation was higher than reality.
  9. There are BF clubs, and there is an Opponents Forum if you scroll way down the various BF forums. And obviously you are not alone as others are calling for players : ) http://www.battlefront.com/community/forumdisplay.php?f=76 Putting your country might help as being in the same time zone can be helpful. I am a bit wary of people who give no clue as to country. Not for any political reasons but I know some time-zones are awkward for me. But then as I play during the day I do not necessarily want my home country. I have never added up the countries of the players I have played but I do know I have done all the continents bar the icy one. : ) One other thing - there is a PM system with this forum so there is no need to put your e-mail address in the posting.
  10. And of course the Churchill was longer than both at 7440/24 ft 5inches Width 10ft 8" - 3251 mm Height 8ft 2 " - 2490 mm I only mention it as its the bulkiness is interesting when you come to measure height - as in target. I must admit I always thought the Tiger was larger - and I have seen them both close to. Sherman M4 19' 2" 5840 mm 8' 7 " 2620 mm 9' 0" 2740 mm
  11. Drugs other than tea. From the Wikipedia article on alertness the British troops used 72 million tablets in WW2 - which given the number in unifoem and the length of the war not too extreme. For other stuff these two are worth reading. http://www.ww2f.com/information-requests/26639-drugs-use-ww2.html http://www.ww2incolor.com/forum/showthread.php?3773-German-Soldiers-on-Drugs! has some serious information and follow-up allegations the fairly full article is derived from Der Spiegel - the link does not work to the original article.
  12. Really? I heard penicillin was available ..... : ) For the Commonwealth troops tea was legal. Are you confusing it with the Vietnam war?
  13. OK I know I said hardcover was good but ..... I knew those steel covers were going to be a problem. : )
  14. Some people play in real time so that means it works for them in preserving a FoW. I suspect me playing WeGo would not wish to game the system to that extent. I say that extent - I assume you mean you go hunting for gaps before moving your troops near the hedge. I suppose a Rhino could really go to town on a section of bocage to make many gaps but bear in mind they do take track damage when doing such things and eventually will become immobilised.
  15. WeBoB http://www.webandofbrothers.de/ Very international which is handy for people on shifts or retired. Probably the largest group being Norht Americans. Not a ladder club though all games are recorded on the mighty BoBster. That allows us senile folk to remember whom we played and when. It gets tricky after the first hundred. Only downside is the joining procedure but we do try to weed out players who drop games or go walkabout for two weeks without mentioning it BEFORE they join the club. A lot of "retired" members returning to the club ... about 5 in a week. Cannot think why!
  16. Ooh picky. Perhaps I should have recapitulated my previous postings here - actually not that many - my problem was peoples anecdotes of tanks firing and hitting on the move. In that respect I am concerned as I am lead to believe most late war tanks stopped to fire. Just so its clear what I am not stressed about - 1. Accuracy figures are interesting but not really worth getting excited about without lots and lots of data. 2. Reaction times/spotting is an interesting area - academically. 3. Advantage of the electrical firing circuit : )
  17. Doubler http://www.cgsc.edu/carl/resources/csi/doubler/doubler.asp Reasonably at the pointy end of the fighting.
  18. I was just wondering if in fact it is more realistic that these gaps have to be found rather than seen in advance.
  19. Actually it was a new tactic for the US in Normandy. Well documented too. However I suppose design decisions have to be made.
  20. Yep, scalable would be lovable. Even better if I can stick it on another screen
  21. Agree. There is scope for confusion and it should have been designed out. Pleas : )
