  1. I just got a Tbird 1200 with Asus ge2 32 meg, Asus ava266 mb. Using 133 sdram With a similar rig, CM will rock even with all the mods installed. The 1.33 are getting cheaper too. Ram is dirt cheap. get as much as u can afford. 512 meg would be good.
  2. Hi Abbott, I had a similar problem. I was playing around with the mb and for whatever reason, after I put the fan back on the cpu, the cpu started overheating. The solution was to go down to your local shop and get some thermal grease. It works great between the cpu and the fan. Result, no nore overheating.
  3. Here's one regarding a not so well-known fellow on this board (name not changed, of course): mike8g goes out for a walk and sees an old man limping along the street on crutches. (The old man has one leg missing). mike8g runs up to him and kicks out the crutches causing the old man to fall in pain. mikeg8 laughs as he thinks this is really funny. Then mike8g sees someone a woman in a wheelchair and runs up to her and pushes her into the street where she gets hit by a car. mike8g rolls on the ground as he thinks that this is also hilarious.
  4. The pivotal battle in the Pacific, in my opinion, was at Pearl Harbour. The only chance the Japanese had was to invade and capture the Hawaiian Islands and hope the Americans would sue for peace. But even if they had successfully invaded the Hawaiian Islands, it would have only delayed their inevitable defeat because the US would not have let them keep Hawaii. In fact, on that Sunday morning, what those Zero's, Val's and Kates did was truely wake up the American industrial might. After this, it was only a matter of time until the resources could be marshalled in the Pacific. Even if the Japanese had won a total victory at Midway, the end result would have been the same. If the Japanese could not even defeat an unsupplied Marine Division at Guadalcanal, what chance did they have against a well supplied, technologically superior foe? By 1945 the US had produced well over 100 carriers of various sizes. What that meant was that they had absolute air superiority over any battlefield. They could, if they so chose, put 1500 - 2000 front line fighters up over any battlefield. Remember the Mariana's Turkyshoot. The Japanese Zero, a marvel in 1940, was obsolete by 1942 and it was still considered a front line fighter in 1945. It was badly outclassed by the Hellcats, Corsairs and P-38's. Plus, Japan could not replace the pilots they were loosing. Additionally, the 100+ carriers meant that any target could be pounded by 2000 or so bombers from the carriers (equivalent to a raid of about 200 or so B-17's) on a more or less continuous basis. Realistically, the Americans did not even have to invade the smaller islands, they could have pounded them into dust, and starved the Japanese to death by cutting off all supplies. The frontline Naval superiority combined with the logistics ability ensured Japan's destruction. Once the needs of the European front were met, it was only a matter of time until the defeat of Japan.
  5. "aka_tom_w Originally posted by fubar628: Well, I ran a series of tests too. {snip} Conclusion for me, 1.12 is working fine. In qb's and online, halftracks are not invulnerable. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ok the issue is not with 'fausts they work fine" If you read my post, you will see that I ran 3 tests. the third was with the Germans edited so they did not have fausts, only grenades and whatever weapon they were carrying. Result, the halftracks all died in 10 out of 10 tests. The map was made so that the halftracks could not retreat out of grenade range i.e. about 30 metres So, the problem with this is..??? 6. Well, I ran a series of tests too. 1st test: 4 Ami M3 halftracks against 6 German rifle platoons, the ht's defending a single vl on a 800 x 500 flat map. Result after 5 tests, all 4 M3's ko'd in less than 6 min in all 5 tests. Germans used grernades and fausts to kill the M3's. 2nd test: I did another QB with 4 Ami M3 halftracks against 6 German rifle platoons, the ht's defending a single vl on a map with everyone in an area surrounded by cliffs so that the tracks could not escape and were within grenade distance. Result after 10 tests, all 4 M3's ko'd in less than 2 min in all 10 tests. The German's easily killed the tracks with fausts and grenades, sometimes in less than 20 sec. 3rd test: I did another QB with 4 Ami M3 halftracks against 6 German rifle platoons, the ht's defending a single vl on a map with everyone in an area surrounded by cliffs so that the tracks could not escape and were within grenade distance. Germans edited so they did not have fausts. Result after 10 tests, all 4 M3's ko'd in less than 6 min in all 10 tests. The longest survival was 6 min with the majority lasting no longer that 3 min. Conclusion for me, 1.12 is working fine. In qb's and online, halftracks are not invulnerable.
  7. Sorry people, it works fine now. Had to reboot. Thanks for quick reply Matt.
  8. No problem now. Nothing to see here folks. Move along, please. [This message has been edited by fubar628 (edited 02-09-2001).]
  9. I think it's at the Museum of the Regiments located off Crowchild Trail SW. They've also got a great Sherman display inside and a ton of other stuff. It's a very worthwhile place to visit.
  10. This is crazy! Why has a pissing match started over a game that is still in it's infancy. We should all be congratulating Talonsoft and the G.I. Combat team for starting to produce another wargame. Wargaming is a small market. To get quality titles we need to support all the companies. Without BTS, Shrapnel and Talonsoft you get what? Squad Leader!! Personally, I hope this one makes it. I like real time wargames and I like CM. CC, CC2 and CC3 were and are still FUN. RTS brings in a different element than CM. Isn't it better to have a choice of both rather than none. Who cares if they are doing WWII again? In most people's minds WWII was the "cool war" with great planes, ships armor and men. WWII will always be more sellable than Korea, Viet Nam or modern conficts. Would you rather fight in a P-51 or an F-16? Or a Panther or a Leopard? 90% will choose the WWII depictions. So go Talonsoft! Go CM2! Otherwise we get Squad Leader or Deer Hunter XXXII.
  11. WYSIWYG = what you see is what you get. Computer teckie term
  12. One possibility is that the shell was a dud. I'm not sure if duds are modeled in CM but it would not suprise me. A 14" shell landing on a turret would ruin any tankers day. A search on duds did not come up with any diffinitive answer. Does anyone know if dud artillery shells are modeled?
  13. There was a pretty good one by Microprose called Task Force 1942. Outdated by todays standards, graphics etc but unlike Fighting Steel land came into play. I thought the scenarios depicting the actions around Savo Island were pretty good. I think there was a scenario editor too. As to where you would find it, I have no idea.
  14. Hi empty. One thing you have to realize is that CM1 is a finished product. Other than patches, I don't think you will see any enhancements added to the game. Enhancements cost money and if their is no payback, I can't see the developer doing them. If you do a search on "vehicles" or something like "included vehicles" you will see the list is quite extensive. Vehicles not included were omitted mainly because they were not really used extensively, i.e. the famous PzIII (you see lots in CC2 battles when in reality, almost none saw combat after June '44). So WYSIWUG.
  15. I don't think there is a demo Benny. Where do you live. In Canada there are places that rent games so you can give them a good test drive. I understand in the US Electronics Boutique allows you to return them. As far as the game, I haven't tried it but as in above posts, I hear it is pretty awful.
