Can you link to or upload the mod you are trying to use? So that we can see whether it works for anybody else.
-
Only if you have one Windows running in Parallels. Then CM runs windowed.
-
Hmmm. I am on Monterey now, but all my installs have been "inherited" from before the update from Catalina. So I never tried an install here.
Monterey is a strange beasts with lots of subtle breakages. Wish I went to Big Sur instead.

The safe-mode thing is strange.
Are you running some form of antivirus by a chance?
-
Was it a *.7z file and what did you use to unpack it?
-
Where did you get the install file?
Did you use patches? -

So reinstalled the original game - used the license in got back in 2014
CM Red Thunder Engine 3
CMRT-BGV3When I try to activate the key it appears to work (I use the 2014 serial key )
"M Red Thunder
Unlock Success! The following are unlocked:"I hit PLAY and get
"LICENCSE FAILURE message" and tells me to do the activation again????
PS-- I tried the "Special Upgrade 4 Tech Tips" and it didnt help????
Looks like pre-engine-4 key play is no longer supported with current installers. -
Wait, have you been on tournamenthouse.com?

Good one
I speculate that any headcount loss during embarkation would trigger this?

It looks like LOS determination for air support does not use ground level LOS.
The reference for LOS seems to be a point up in the air higher than a tall wall but less tall than a 2-story building. That makes it highly un-intuitive.
I can see no difference in this behavior between CMBN, CMCW and CMBS.

Unlike the BFC version the CMBB you get from GoG works in Win10 in Parallels. As far as I can see everything works including sound, unit database etc.
And even fog. It must have been 18 years or so since I have last seen fog in CMx1

This is similar to the (unresolved) issue I posted about. I’m using Win 10 via Boot Camp on the latest Intel Mac with a Radeon Pro XT 5700. I never get to the black screen, however… I get a few seconds of the Windows “thinking” wheel and then… nothing. No icon ever shows up in the tray.
For me, the other titles take 10s or so to fully open, but the icons do show up in the tray while waiting.
I also tried running in various compatibility and resolution modes to no avail.
I also deleted my CW install and did a full reinstall from BFC. This also did not work.
I filed a ticket, but haven’t received any help. Sucks not being able to play a game I paid good money for.
Did you trying wiggling sound? Plug in headphones and the like? -
I think macOS runs inside Virtualbox, BTW.

Hopefully we get a 2S1 or somesuch in the next module.

Bogged vehicles have a dice roll whether they become operational or go to immobilized, which is permanent.
I assume bogged vehicles make it to the next battle but I never encountered it.

Thanks guys!
So on-map arty is more accurate than off-map - even if the on-map dont have LOS to the target?
I noticed that the "hand-carried" small mortars is very accurate and fast in RT for example - with LOS
As womble said, if you fire on-map indirect it isn't that precise anymore. The fall pattern is different IIRC, the oval oriented differently or something. In CMCW you get 120mm mortars for direct fire. They mosh.
The fact that they can fire that quickly in direct fire is probably not realistic.

You can manually save. Seems to be the only way to get your claws on your own files.
-
Aren't they broken anyway? Not hitting, especially units on higher terrain?

I know the installation requirements assert that the game won't run in a virtual machine environment, so I'd not be at all surprised if that included emulation modes.
FWIW CMCW runs fine in the virtual machine software Parallels for me.

Spooky things like taking out 3 tanks with a single penetrator or autocannon rounds penetrating through entire city blocks happen.
Also happens with HEAT shots, which is a bit questionable. -
It doesn't work well enough to employ against human opponents, at least not when there is a clock ticking down.
-
Area fire with smallarms seems pretty effective to me, that does cause casualties.
But you burn through ammo quickly, especially with automatic-heavy squads.

I've always thought of the individual trees and bushes in Combat Mission as decoration. But it seems like my tank shells are taking them out. It may just be my imagination or graphics card or something. Is it possible to clear trees using area fire or accidental hits on trees?
(BTW, in my opinion, if a shell hits a tree, it shouldn't explode if its AP or APDS etc... Maybe be deflected, maybe lose some energy, but not explode. What is the community's opinion on this? Also, his leads me to my next observation:)
When firing shells at armored targets, I think I may have found a bug. Again, it might be my imagination (I have a rather large one ). Does it seem like the shell type expended sometimes depends on what the shell hits? For instance, if it hits the ground the program reduces the HE, if it hits an AFV then its AP? Does the program calculate the trajectory then, depending on the final destination, reduce the appropriate ammo for best effect? Sort of a quantum type action? This shouldn't be so since the ballistic arc of an APDS shell should be way different than the arc of a HEAT round.
Both of your observations are correct.

But when that is the problem you should get a clear error message saying so, no?
