1. Eleven months in the Finnish Defence Forces as a commander of a FO's tank BMP-1. Corporal. JV
2. Hi, www.anandtech.com and www.sharkyextreme.com have good guides about buying either a high-end or a value gaming PC. I read their reviews before I upgraded my comp. I now have a TBird 1000Mhz, Asus A7V MoBo, 256 MB RAM, Elsa GeForce2 MX and IBM Deskstar 75GXP 30GB HD. SoundBlaster Live! is about 1.5 years old and good enough for me. And CD-RW is a very good addition to the package. Maybe you check the above mentioned sites and then go to the stores that can build you one like those recommended. Hope this helps, JV
3. Is there somekind of a 'send-your-picture' emidemia going on in the Forums around the net? The same is happening in the EAW forums in the Combatsim and SimHQ sites. But anyway, I think it's a great idea so let's go for it! JV
4. Colonel: Come to visit Combatsim's EAW Forum at http://www.combatsim.com/ubbcgi/Ultimate.cgi .You'll get all the info you need in there. About EAW, with all the add-ons, skins, terrains, utilities, new aircraft, new campaigns etc. that have been made you wouldn't recognize the game. It has evolved so much. You can for example fly in the Pacific, Eastern Front, Mediterranean, North Africa, Battle of France etc. No flight sim has yet beaten it in my HD. If you still can find EAW somewhere, definately get it! JV
5. I waited for my game about five weeks to come here in Finland. But it definately is worth all the waiting JV
6. Yep, I'm sticking to EAW also. No flight sim has beaten it yet. Maybe Il-2 will... JV
7. He he, the famous Big Al And he really was a BIG man! But what a show they had. He made fun of one girl of our group the whole night and the people just loved it And I think she loved it also, even though (or because) the talk was quite sleazy And the other pictures from Bourbon Street look familiar also, but unfortunately we didn't have a chance to visit very many other places there. JV
8. Hello, I had a chance to take these photos in the D-Day museum. It was my lucky day when I went there since it was the Veterans' day and everyone that had served in the army or were veterans got in for free! It didn't matter that I haven't served in the US forces. There weren't very many vehicles there. Just a halftrack, a jeep, a motorbike and two cars and of course the assault boat. It was allowed to take photos in there as long as flash wasn't used. The main part of the museum concists of small arms exhibition, video feeds, multimedia shows, large photos etc. I haven't visited other war museums except this and the Finnish Tank Museum so I can't compare it very well to anything. Anyway, I liked it and would like to go there again. They are going to open a Pacific section next year, if I remember right. All in all New Orleans was a great experience. The Bourbon Street became very familiar.. (those Hand Grenades in The Funky Pirate are quite strong ). JV

10. Thanks for the tips, guys! I hope I get some good pictures in the museum and maybe I'll post some here. Have to check some of those bars and night clubs! JV
11. Hi, I'm going to USA for the first time in my life this friday. I'm staying in New Orleans for a week and I'd like to know that has anyone visited the National D-Day museum there? Can you recommend it? I've been in their website and it looks good, but if anyone has visited the museum personally, it would be nice to hear. JV
12. Hi, I usually don't pay very much attention to the names of units in CM, but yesterday I happened to notice that the leader of one unit was Sgt. Perttula, which is definately a Finnish name. This is a nice detail, since there must have been men with Finnish surnames (immigrants or descendants of immigrants) serving in the US forces. JV
13. Thanks BeWary! I wouldn't have thought that my processor is too slow for this game... Well, I was going to upgrade it anyway in the near future. Have to start to check the prices of Thunderbird 800-900 MHz... That should be enough JV
14. Hi, every time I play CM I get all or some of these problems every now and then: 1. When I move the mouse to the sides of the screen, the camera doesn't rotate but moves sideways, even though I'm not pressing CTRL. (This is very, very common. More often than not the camera moves sideways than rotates...) 2. When I click on a platoon or company HQ only once, all the units under its command are selected and then I have to click every unit separately to get them unselected. 3. The keyboard stops functioning. I can't for example change the camera elevation (very frequent!) or save the game etc. I can usually still use the mouse to change the elevation, though. 4. When I select a unit I can't give commands to it because the pop-up selection window won't show up if I press SPACE or right-click with a mouse or use Game Commander. 5. And sometimes, but not very often I can't do anything but move around the field, nothing else works. The game doesn't freeze, though, beacuse I can still see the animations (slight movement of the units and the smoke coming from the fires etc.). After a while the game returns back to 'normal' and starts working again (for a while...) My system specs: Celeron 400MHz 128 MB TNT2 32MB (the latest drivers from NVIDIA) Logitech wheelmouse (the latest drivers) Combat Mission 1.05 Any help is appreciated. JV
15. Hi Tom, I'm a very beginner with CM and I just found your site. Looks really good! One question, how can I download that CD-cover from your site? JV
16.
quote:
Originally posted by aka_tom_w: Try loading Gunslinger's Complete realistic colour mod, this colour scheme woudl fit right in.

Where can I get that? JV BTW, The screenshots look magnificient!
17. 1. CFS2 2. B17II (maybe) 3. Il-2 (definately!) Like you can see, I'm originally a flight simmer and only recently have been starting to play strategy games, thanks to CM (which I reveived yesterday!) JV
18. A rumor of war by Philip Caputo is the 2nd best Vietnam War book I've read. The best one has just short stories, like only one page long but I just can't remember the name of that book. This same book maybe the best of all war books I've read. About WW2, everything that Sven Hassel has written is high on my list. Although it is fictional, Hassel really can create a good athmosphere in his books. JV
19.
quote:
Originally posted by Sergei: Laine's version has that stark acting and filming so charasteristic for 50's. To me, the acting doesn't seem believable. Men are too spirited and occasionally too heroic.

So the opinions vary Yes, the acting represents the standard of that time and it might be a bit overacted. There's just something in Laine's work that I like better than Molberg's. But both are very good movies, like I wrote in the post above. JV
20.
quote:
Originally posted by Stefan Must admit it was a while since I saw either of the Unknown Soldier versions, but I remember I for certain fancied the later one. Why do you think the b&w version is better?

Well, one thing is the dialect the actors (try to) speak. The actors in the new version just can't get it quite right and so it sounds a bit strange (to a native Finnish). And the actors all in all are better in the original version, IMO. There can be just one Rokka... Both are great movies, but the original is a tad ahead on my list. JV
21. 1. Saving privat Ryan. No need to explain, I think. 2. Charlie MoPic84. Not much action in this movie, but I really felt a bit shaken after this one. 3. Winter war. It's been twice on TV here in Finland and I still don't have it in video tape... 4. The unknown soldier. The older B&W version is better than the newer version, IMHO. JV
