i made an alternate universe one where germany invaded new england. the germans got the us advantages while the us got german advantages: gave the germans more medium stuff (nashorn, panzer ivg, stugs) and airpower, but the us got jumbo shermans backed up by chaffees and 57mm recoiless rifles.

ugh, i hate when games do that too. i have never ever grouped games by publisher. does anyone do that? i just dump them into my "C:\games" folder.Originally posted by Madmatt:CMAK is the first CM game from Battlefront.com which uses an actual functional game installer (and unistaller) and as such we decided to better intergrate future games by having them, by default, go into a new Battlefront program group.

if you want to just make fonts bigger on one site, you may want to get the last version of proximitron.
http://www.proxomitron.info/files/index.shtml
after a simple setup, make a new filter that replaces the text

confirmed: it is indeed hooyaa and not booyaa.

i generally liked the new sounds. but did anyone else hear a us guy yell "booyaa!" and is that historically accurate? (no, not joking, i am curious about it)Originally posted by CMplayer:I actually thought a lot of the American voices sounded too modern. Almost like surfer dudes (well, not quite). Well, what it sounded like was a bunch of generation X-ers trying to sound like WWII soldiers. The effect is about the same as when a 19 year old valley girl brat-pack actress tries to play Marie Antoinette. A bit hokey if you ask me.
the "tank pointing at last known position of enemy tank" has been around since cmbo i think.

i can take a screenie in cmbo and cmbb no problem. but in the cmak demo the following are missing: (all of which i saw onscreen when i hit "printscreen")
-building walls/roof (still saw the tower and dome oddly)
-fire
-smoke
-vehicles
-infantry
-bases of all units
flag, land, trees, all were still visible. looking at the screenie it looks normal in that there are no messed up textures, or inconsistent/staticy imagery. it looks as if a bunch of the function keys were pressed and removed most of the effects and units. but i carefully arrayed the camera to get the cool shot and saw all the debris, units, and fire.
specs:
600mhz
nvidia m64 32mb videocard
cmbb and cmbo run fine
cmak demo ran almost perfectly (some minor glitches when i alt-tabbed out)

i read one rule where both sides do an agreement when their global morale(or casualty rate? i forget) hits 50% they hit ceasefire. that way both are sure to preserve forces and avoid carnage.

you have radlight? i recommend having nothing to do with it. there was a big flap about it when one of their versions had a "feature" where it automatically deleted adaware (a program that deletes spyware) if it found it on your system.Originally posted by Mikeydz:I might be helpful if whoever has gotten this video to work post what viewer software they used. The latest Media Player, ATI software, WinDVD and Radlight all choked on it (Audio only, no video).

besides trying to make the ai smarter you can try to make the human dumb.
for example, make something like franko's ironman rules that shuts off the 3-9 level views and zoom for non binocular/optics wielding units. whenever i play it like that i spend half the time going "where the hell is the enemy? where the hell am i?"
another thing already mentioned a couple times above is randomness: make ais that do attack "at all costs" or "minimal losses".
another possible game possibility is the "mindf--- the player option"
i had one scenario where i made the germans attack a small platoon with tons of infantry and a couple dozen tanks while lightly armed soldiers and unarmoured vehicles and almost no antitank weapons in a nearby town were supposed to evacuate over a bridge and then blow it up. most of the playtesters found it fun and managed to get their guys in town over the river. one tester though decided to just stick it out and made some moving ambushes and made a stand in town where the ai failed to push hard enough.
so you could try and fool or lie to the player about enemy abilities on occasion.

just to be sure, add about ten of them in the second turn at 100%. that should be an interesting turn.Originally posted by Locksley:Thanks all
I checked it again and the reason it wasn't working was that time of day was dawn/dusk, set it to midday and it works fine. Well I say fine, I'm on turn 10 of 35 and it still hasn't appeared. Nuts. Guess the pilot's stubbed his toe or something. Ah well.

probably .00001% of americans could do the full star spangled banner.Originally posted by Seanachai:You know, I heard a rather humourous program on the CBC one day about how many Canadians there are that don't even know all the lyrics to 'O Canada!'. Quite droll how many of them, when the mike was shoved in their face, couldn't get all the way to the end of the song.
...blah blah blah...
land of the freeeeeee,
and the hoooooome
of the
braveeeeeeeeee!...
On the shore dimly seen thro' the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected, now shines on the stream:
'T is the star-spangled banner: O, long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion
A home and a country should leave us no more?
Their blood has wash'd out their foul footsteps' pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
O, thus be it ever when freemen shall stand,
Between their lov'd homes and the war's desolation;
Blest with vict'ry and peace, may the heav'n-rescued land
Praise the Pow'r that hath made and preserv'd us as a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust"
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Civility is maintained in most cases by the nature of the game and the passionate approach of the players, but those of us who have been around for any length of time know that things are not as nice as they look on the surface.
The forum is MUCH better than most others but don't look in the basement or ask why the walls are freshly painted. Worse, watch out for the police. Be careful not to run afoul of any self-proclaimed enforcers. When they speak, politely nod your head and mumble something that ends with "comrade" as you shuffle along waiting for your bread for the month and staring at your worn shoes.

in the scenario editor put panther tanks where you want them. go to the tile map and put down rough tiles under them. then go back to the map and put mg pillboxes where the tanks are. now you got turrents o top of pillboxes.
