  1. not 100% sure that these work in cmak...

    from cmbo faq:

How can I get a copy of the briefing?

"Hold down Ctrl and Shift and hit the Load Briefings button." -wolfe

How do I make reinforcements arrive in good order, rather than all jumbled up?

"break your reinforcements up into 5 groups and use all the reinforcement slots" -Berlichtingen

How do I set the initial view for each side when the scenario starts?

Before you exit the editor, move the camera to the view that you want the Allied player to see when the game starts. Then for the Axis player, press "\", no quotes (not the turn 180 degrees key, other slash), then set the camera view. Press GO! and then save it.

neat stuff written for cmbo that probably works in cmak:

ugh, i hate when games do that too. i have never ever grouped games by publisher. does anyone do that? i just dump them into my "C:\games" folder.

i generally liked the new sounds. but did anyone else hear a us guy yell "booyaa!" and is that historically accurate? (no, not joking, i am curious about it)

the "tank pointing at last known position of enemy tank" has been around since cmbo i think.

with 50mm rounds vs grants, i thought there would be more gun damage than not...

  4. i can take a screenie in cmbo and cmbb no problem. but in the cmak demo the following are missing: (all of which i saw onscreen when i hit "printscreen")

-building walls/roof (still saw the tower and dome oddly)

    -fire

    -smoke

    -vehicles

    -infantry

    -bases of all units

flag, land, trees, all were still visible. looking at the screenie it looks normal in that there are no messed up textures, or inconsistent/staticy imagery. it looks as if a bunch of the function keys were pressed and removed most of the effects and units. but i carefully arrayed the camera to get the cool shot and saw all the debris, units, and fire.

    specs:

    600mhz

    nvidia m64 32mb videocard

    cmbb and cmbo run fine

cmak demo ran almost perfectly (some minor glitches when i alt-tabbed out)

can you do that without getting shot?

you have radlight? i recommend having nothing to do with it. there was a big flap about it when one of their versions had a "feature" where it automatically deleted adaware (a program that deletes spyware) if it found it on your system.

  7. besides trying to make the ai smarter you can try to make the human dumb.

for example, make something like franko's ironman rules that shuts off the 3-9 level views and zoom for non binocular/optics wielding units. whenever i play it like that i spend half the time going "where the hell is the enemy? where the hell am i?"

another thing already mentioned a couple times above is randomness: make ais that do attack "at all costs" or "minimal losses".

another possible game possibility is the "mindf--- the player option"

i had one scenario where i made the germans attack a small platoon with tons of infantry and a couple dozen tanks while lightly armed soldiers and unarmoured vehicles and almost no antitank weapons in a nearby town were supposed to evacuate over a bridge and then blow it up. most of the playtesters found it fun and managed to get their guys in town over the river. one tester though decided to just stick it out and made some moving ambushes and made a stand in town where the ai failed to push hard enough.

so you could try and fool or lie to the player about enemy abilities on occasion.

I checked it again and the reason it wasn't working was that time of day was dawn/dusk, set it to midday and it works fine. Well I say fine, I'm on turn 10 of 35 and it still hasn't appeared. Nuts. Guess the pilot's stubbed his toe or something. Ah well.

    Tom

just to be sure, add about ten of them in the second turn at 100%. that should be an interesting turn.

probably .00001% of americans could do the full star spangled banner.

    dang it's long

    ...blah blah blah...

    land of the freeeeeee,

    and the hoooooome

    of the

    braveeeeeeeeee!...

On the shore dimly seen thro' the mists of the deep,

Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,

What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,

As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?

Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,

In full glory reflected, now shines on the stream:

'T is the star-spangled banner: O, long may it wave

O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore

That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion

A home and a country should leave us no more?

Their blood has wash'd out their foul footsteps' pollution.

No refuge could save the hireling and slave

From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave:

And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave

O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

O, thus be it ever when freemen shall stand,

    Between their lov'd homes and the war's desolation;

Blest with vict'ry and peace, may the heav'n-rescued land

Praise the Pow'r that hath made and preserv'd us as a nation!

Then conquer we must, when our cause is just,

And this be our motto: "In God is our trust"

And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave

O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

The forum is MUCH better than most others but don't look in the basement or ask why the walls are freshly painted. Worse, watch out for the police. Be careful not to run afoul of any self-proclaimed enforcers. When they speak, politely nod your head and mumble something that ends with "comrade" as you shuffle along waiting for your bread for the month and staring at your worn shoes.
