1. I have nearly the EXACT same setup! Only difference is an AMD K6-2 @380 mhz and 80 mb ram. I only really get slowdown if I use a Hi-Res grass mod, or if I'm playing on SNOW (no idea why) or if I'm playing with weather effects on. I also shut down ambient sounds, because my sound card is virtually nothing, and thus pulls the processor alot.
2. I LOVE the mod! MY only problem with it is that I much prefer the gray uniforms for Heer. Can someone pleeeeeeease make a gray uniform alternative? (like the helmet alternative found in the pack) Pleeeeease? DD? Otherwise, I am REEEEEALLY happy with how my troops look now! EDIT: Same low-res style... pleeeease... 3. I also don't have as much interest in the Eastern Front... but thinking about CM2 is starting to raise my interest a bit.
4. So it was used to clear obstacles, AND to make trenches? It does kind of look like it makes a nice trench in the movie... or was the "trench" blown in the ground just a pleasant side effect? EDIT: Was writing this as Dogface was posting his great description. Thanks Dogface! [This message has been edited by Mr. Clark (edited 01-09-2001).]
5. Hey Max, while we're here... do you know if CM2 is going to be backwards compatible?
6. Okay, that brings up 2 more questions: 1) how does the Bangalore torpedo work? Is the whole thing explosive, or just one part? 2) Just to make sure I understand, the balloons kept low enemy aircraft attacks away, because of the chance of running into the balloons? Thanks for the quick reply! Sorry about the further Q's.
7. Gladiator - not really a war movie, but love the opening battle scene. The Patriot - hey, I liked it. Legends of the Fall - once again, not a war movie but the war scene is pretty sweet. The Hunt for Red October + Clear and Present Danger - one more time, not really war movies, but sweet war related stuff non-the-less.
8. My wife and I began watching Saving Private Ryan again last night and she began firing questions at me that I couldn't answer... so here they are: 1) What is that loooooong, pipelike bomb that they use once reaching the "safety" of a sand bank during the beach landing? (They explode the thing, and then hop over the sand hill.) 2) What are the floating blimp-like balloon things for? (appearing on the beach, attached to stuff, after the fighting is over.) I've seen them in actual D-Day photos, but never knew what they were for. Anyone? Thanks in advance!
9. Agreed about updating IE, although it's a pain in the buttocks. Also, try some of the other CM websites. I've noticed that a few others have links to the patches.
10.
quote:
Originally posted by Forever Babra: LOL... I'll bet they have their hands twitchin' toward the ban key by now... B]

LOL! That's hilarious... and probably true! But seriously, I'm incredibly happy to have as many hard core Grogs here as possible to answer all my random Q's.
11. I buy big arty... BIG arty... I use Arty whenever I possibly can. I usually play the Allies, and I bomb the crap out of everything. I use artillery to weaken positions, divide enemy forces, immobilize tanks, and wreck enemy plans. Incoming!
12. There is even the option to have your Tanks "Dig In" on the setup turn, thus becoming a gun emplacement/turret type thing... so I would vote NOT GAMEY. I'm not sure if you ALWAYS have the option to dig in tanks, or only in certain scenarios... It's in the rulebook somewhere...
13. Thanks. I'm planning on working on the jeep this week.
14. Grumble! I have not received that message yet, but if I do, I'm cancelling from Amazon and trying B&N. Amazon DOES note that my Encyclopedia of German Tanks in WWII is ready to ship, as soon as they find the Allied one... sigh... It's becoming kind of like waiting for CM to show up, except that took much less time, and I still have CM to play now...
15. Also, I'm pretty sure (I've only looked, never tried...) that the Photo booths at both Jewel/Osco and Wal-Mart have some sort of electronic thingahoochie that you can stick a pick in and get a digital image for a fee.
16. Since everyones sharing, and it is kind of interesting to see how others found CM (since it's not in stores)- I was considering buying SHOGUN a few months ago... around Sept I think. I kept looking at PC Gamer mag on the shelf in Wal-Mart, checking out Shogun stuff (I believe it was a review) and every time I did, I saw them raving about this game CM. I finally convinced myself to buy Shogun. Installed it, played it, liked it. While on the Shogun forums, people kept mentioning CM... Finally someone posted a link, and here I am. Shogun is long gone on EBaY, as it was removed from my PC to make room for CM mods...
17. Okay... I'm really scared now... David managed to have the third reply, AND add illustrations! What the heck...
18. Not complaining! I was new here myself not too very long ago. However, I have noticed a LOT of new people within the last couple weeks! Was there some HUGE CMBO marketing campaign that I missed (we interrupt this programming to announce that CMBO will SOON have official TCP/IP capability!), or is it the "YAY! Got the game for X-Mas!" thing happening? Anyhoo, glad to see it, and carry on...
19. In one of the books I've recently read, I remember one of the infantry recalling rolling a grenade at the enemy, because he knew if he threw it the bounceback chance was high. In another account, I remember someone mentioning teaching Green infantry to toss underhand in forests, as overhand would cause more bounce if it struck a tree. Anyhoo, just assume your GI Joes know what they are doing. [This message has been edited by Mr. Clark (edited 01-06-2001).]
20. Good Idea! I'm in! (Edited because I could not freaking manage to spell four freaking words properly...) [This message has been edited by Mr. Clark (edited 01-06-2001).]
21. Just wanted to say I'm happy you received your copy. I know what that wait is like, as does everyone else here.
