  1. Stefan,I have just started my first one,,thats why I wanted to address this issue..The only thing that I find that is negative is the time delay involved,It could take weeks to finish a 25 turn QB.I guess you need to play 4 or 5 at once to keep busy. I am finding that the Computer scenarios are sometimes not all that fun, either too hard or too unrealistic (shootouts),or the maps are bland. I have seen scenarios made by the big boys and I was turned off by the maps so I wouldnt even play them. Human opponents seem much more interesting at the moment.. ------------------ "If Patton were alive today,he'd play Combat Mission."
  2. Do you mean how do you move your vehicle if it is in woods..?..If there is no way to move your vehicle it will remain stuck..If your marker is surrounded by Pine Trees and there is no open ground to squeeze thru you are stuck. If you are creating a scenario, the computer or AI always places the reinforcements on or very near the marker..The AI has problems moving vehicles that are on roads surrounded by thick woods..Especially if they are far from the action. So make sure there is ample room for your reinforcement vehicles to move and make sure they are not too far away from the front..After your scenario is over click on MAP and scan your board.Make sure all the units that the AI controlled have moved forward. If they are still in the back(eating cheese and drinking wine),then they are probably too far away.Move the reinforcement marker up.Also do not have a reinforcemnt marker pop up right in the middle of a battle..I saw that in Veghel Town,(A fun scenario)..A German Tank popped up right in the middle of Allied forces..Like it was teleported.. I am no expert,I have only made 3 so far,but with a little practice you will get the hang of it..Also asking people to play test it first is a good idea, you may not like everything you hear but it will be a learning experience.. ------------------ "If Patton were alive today,he'd play Combat Mission."
  3. Wow,,I didnt know that..I only knew that if you used the editor it only widened it to the right.I didnt know it could be widened to the left..That will make a world of difference.. Thanks.. ------------------ "If Patton were alive today,he'd play Combat Mission."
  4. Never place a reinforcement flag that is associated with a vehicle in trees. If a vehicle is involved make sure the marker is on the road with spare room on both sides if more than one vehicle is involved..the AI will not line up the vehicles..I have seen scenarios like this.Where a Vehicle is lost in a forest and there is no way out.. ------------------ "If Patton were alive today,he'd play Combat Mission."
  5. The Zip idea is it !! I asked my opponent to try it and sure enough it worked(His files werent even named,so I didnt even know what he was sending). Most Browser related Email programs try to do us a favor by opening up the file for viewing. The zip format leaves a link there. That must be why They always ask for submitted scenarios at the depot to be zipped. They dont want to be bothered copying/pasting the files..lol..There are quite a few frustrated guys (and girls) out there who cannot get this to work.I hope they all read this good info..Thanks All. ------------------ "If Patton were alive today,he'd play Combat Mission."
  6. Thanks Michlos,,The Assault boats can be moved into the water with the move command.I have found that it is a tedious chore to use these, but the AI was very lame trying to take the biridge as the Allies so I added them for a change of pace.I might delete them and let you play from both sides, but I am sure the Americans will get anihilated. I have been told already about the Germans being too weak and the lack of defensible ground behind the Bridge.Good points. I was also told the SS was in a bad spot, they should be behind the bridge,,I disagree.I believe in saving Private Ryan the Americans were on both sides of the Bridge and only moved back when they were being overrun.I am going to add more punch to the German side for sure, maybe even make the Bunker an 88.that should really spice it up.As for widening it I blew it there..I dont think the left side can be widened..I learned my lesson on that one..thanks again for your comments.. Practice makes perfect and your comments surely help. ------------------ "If Patton were alive today,he'd play Combat Mission."
  7. Maybe a Tent might work..But it might look like Swiss cheese after a few volleys. ------------------ "If Patton were alive today,he'd play Combat Mission."
  8. Thanks Harold, unfortunately in some cases it is just code( I do not have a link at all)..But if I see it as a Link I will definitely try the "save as" option.. ------------------ "If Patton were alive today,he'd play Combat Mission."
  9. Thanks..I was thinking about that,,That might be my only option if I cannot get the movie file to copy/paste... ------------------ "If Patton were alive today,he'd play Combat Mission."
  10. I uploaded freeware "IrfanView". Then just print screen and open up the program, and paste it..small file size and looks cool..check out a sample in the strategy/tips..using AT guns thread.
  11. I know I am not the only one who has had problems with saving PBEM files through their browser, so here goes...I have tried different Email addy's (Hotmail and Prodigy) And I still get the files as code when viewed.I cannot just save the file to the PBEM folder.I was told that I should copy/paste the set up files to wordpad and then save it in the PBEM folder. This works like a charm (sometimes it takes a few tries though). However, I was told that the movie files (being much, much larger) may not work.Is there a way around this headache. Is it a Netscape problem? I have no idea why I cannot just save the file to the folder without it opening up as code..does this happen to everyone ?.So far my set up phase has worked great with the 2 games I am playing, but I am really bummed out that the movies will not work..any help will be greatly appreciated.. ------------------ "If Patton were alive today,he'd play Combat Mission."
  12. Thanks a lot!..Great program,,My PC works so much better now ,especially when surfing..The anti virus program really slowed things down,,but not anymore..GOOD STUFF !!
  13. Wow,,the air is so fresh here..Lovely flowers and such....what a view..
  14. Whats the true story behind Witmanns demise.I heard it was British Fireflys and I also heard it was an RAF typhoon..
  15. Thanks for the comments..I am new at this and unfortunately ,although I play test it ,I dont get to hear much from the other gamers. The review at the scenario depot was positive(***),so everyones opinion is subjective. The reason I used the assualt boats was because the Allies never beat me as the Germans..LOL.The AI seemed to have a real problem with the Bridge.I agree you should win as the Americans rather handily. And next time I will leave more space behind the defenders, good point(I'll see if I can widen it).Perhaps I will add more infantry,on the far side of the Bridge. Thanks for the comments.
  16. Take a look at what this little ole 57mm AT gun did in a new scenario I am tweaking.I am stunned to say the least. The gun is behind a 3 foot wall and their is a Burning building about 100 meters in fromt of the Gun,protecting it from frontal LOS.It's killing ground was within 500 meters. It almost ran out of Ammo ! <center> </center> [This message has been edited by Panzer Man (edited 09-19-2000).] [This message has been edited by Panzer Man (edited 09-20-2000).]
  17. Thanks for the info..So I assume the instructions are .txt files. What are the Movie file extensions?..I actually received a .txt file and saved it to PBEM and it still didnt work,,I'll try the notpad method..but what word processor have you been using for the movie files?
  18. Im having no luck at all downloading the files from PBEM'ers...What format are the files in? I recvd a .txt file.Saved it into the PBEM folder and tried to access it in CM,no luck. Was the file corrupt or am I doing something wrong.I really want to try to play PBEM.
  19. Dave im still stumped..The first one was a .txt file and I saved it in the PBEM folder when I tried to access it nothin happened. Then I recvd another one that was all code..I tried copying and pasting and no luck..Are the files that are sent .txt files? I thought it was hotmail, but I see others are using that as well..Any info would be appreciated..
  20. I am play testing a Night scenario and on more than one occasion I saw one of my own units fire (bright red line)on a friendly unit.If so, that is very cool.Good work BTS. If not then I am seeing things..(Too much Dark Beer)
  21. Howard when did you tweak it? I downloaded it around the 12thm, and read too much into your instructions and tried to get most of the Germans over the bridge, not knowing the whole damn American Army was there on turn 1 ! So I lost too many men early. After that I was barely hanging on thru turn 17,didnt look too promising, plus I totally missed the Flak Guns and left them where they were.If you tweeked it after the 12th maybe I'll try it again.Good early action but it appeared too tough after that.
  22. I agree with Wild Bill that Fictitious battles should be at least marginally winnable from both sides.I also believe that Historical battles should play out historically. My main gripe about all these new scenarios is the overuse of various weapons.Like rarer versions of Tanks and especially artillery.I was playing a scenario where the U.S.had an 8 inch spotter.Maybe I am wrong, but I dont believe they were very common.
  23. For anyone who enjoys night scenarios, let me know,I'll send you my scenario called "night devils".It takes place during the early a.m. hours of D day..British paras have to secure a vital crossroad deep in enemy territory. This is not an armor battle,it involves stealth and positioning.
  24. If this is all about PBEMing then I WHOLE HEARTEDLY APOLOGIZE!. Unfortunately whenever I tuned into your station I truly didn't understand your language and felt it was inappropriate to this games discussion.Since the thread is 10 times larger than the actual games chat I thought it was wrong to be here,.But since I see you all enjoy this banter so much and since it has something to do with the game (although I dont see it)I certainly cannot delete this very powerful lobby.I will simply ignore it and go on enjoying the game.Sorry for the BS..PS, Heads Up, a Panzerfaust might be right around the corner. And no, I'm not German!
  25. I have to repair my Panzers, they need TLC.Please go back into your own thread..LOL
