  1. Hey Splinty, Can't wait to see the next movie. You got me worried with your comment. Yeah, zipping them would work great. Thanks I'll also try the first thing that Germanboy suggested. "Now, the war may continue.."
  2. Hello all, I post this here instead of the Tech board since I think this board is more frequently visited. My problem is with getting the PBEM files from my email to my computer. I know this sounds stupid but this is what I have to go through. I have tried multiple other ways but cannot find a way to just have the files attached just saved to my hard drive. When I get a PBEM file, I can either see all the code in the email or there will be an attachment. I use Microsoft Hotmail and IE4.0 If there is an attachment and I click on it, it opens another IE window with all the code in it. Now for me to get that into the HD, I have to copy and paste into Word, then highlight the whole thing and reformat the font size from 10 to 8. Then I have to copy it to Wordpad and then save it as a txt file. This is a s***load of work to do just to copy a file over. Yet still find the patience to carry 6 games at a time. --- its a damm good game!!!!! I have tried everything I could think of to get the IE to save the file to disk instead of showing it on the screen. I remember there used to be way to tell the explorer what to do a default with all files, but I can't find that anywhere. Any Ideas or suggestions ??? i need serious help?? - In more that one way, but right now, this will do. Thanks all
  3. How does that TCP/IP work. Obiously you will be able to do LAN and such but how about internet play? Would it be like other gaes where you log on somewhere and go from there. Will BTS host these or 3rd party sites like Mplayer etc.? Just curious
  4. I mean about having MG beign able to target mult targets at a time instead of one at a time? I know that this has been discussed inthe past but can't recall seeing a final thought like BTS considering it for CM2 or will be too difficult to implement ever or what. I would think if it was possible to do to do it. I think it's not too realisting that the MG has to take time to rotate like an immobile cannon, since most MG are on Tripods and swivel like thingies. Maybe accuracy during this drops dramatically but one can sure keep a lot of people's head down when 2-3 squads rush a MG out in the open. Just my 2 small cents.
  5. i'm not sure, but they would be different versions anyways. let me know when you get the game then. and if you are still thinking about buying it, just do it!
  6. This doesn't exactly sound like a cheat to me. although I see the "advantage point" that you are referring to. But son't really see that much of an advatange in this. actually sound more like a pain to do for very limited info. plus, what the fun in doing that?????
  7. They say they are working on it but could be several months away. Wanna PBEM instead?
  8. Here's what I do I'm play say - joe my first file is: joe eric 1 turn after I move I send file to him he moves and generates a film I name this file joe eric 1 film I see film and then need to send file right back (without moving anything) I call the new file joe eric 1 film done send him this file he watches movie and then makes move for turn 2 he send me file I save it and call it: joe eric 2 turn I move and generate film to send him I call this file: joe eric 2 turn done and send to him he watches film and sends to me I call this joe eric 2 film I watch film and then take my turn I send file I call: joe eric 3 turn and so on.. what I do then is delete all files (except the last one I send that are called: joe eric (number) film that way I am left with all the film files. I know this a little confusing but hope it helps
  9. Zaraath, Personally, I use crews how I would think crews would react under the circumstances given to them. i.e. say a tank or vehicle gets hit from a distance and there are no enemies nearby, I would think the crew would want to run towards "friendly lines" when it appears to be safe, so I do that Now say a vehicle is hit and there is a firefight nearby, I would think the crew will try to stay low and out of harms way - indeed they are not infantry men and probably scared ****less, but would try to fight when appropite. I would not use them for "offensive" tactics, unless in dire circumstances -- say there's a couple of beat up squads and next to them a couple of half strenght crews and that building nearby, I might send them all in. Kind of get my thoughts. as for that poll, I've never asked my PBEM opponents if they use gamey tactics or not. so far, i can't say that I've encountered any tactics that I would consider to be gamey. I definetly play my games the way I think I would behave a a commander in a war. Gamey sound like a good term to me. BTW, I read in an earlier thread that some people can tell if there is alteration of PBEM files. How can I look for that?
  10. Ok, I have spent the last hour or so reviewing previous thread about GAMEY tactics, boy there are a lot of them This is the "meat and bones" of what I have found. Gamey: 1. Recon strategies with crews, fast vehicles 2. Setting up ambush point or arty in known reinforcement spots 3. Buying cheap units en-mass 4. Buying unreasonable percentage of units (i.e. 1 platoon and 10 heavy artillery) 5. Rushing cheap vehicles with infantry or bazookas towars armor or guns - when the vehicle is destroyed, the passengers usually kill the target 6. Running around the map with 1/2 a squad left in your force and tehn trying to capture an unoccupied victory flag at the end NOT Gamey: 1. Using "rush" tactics in a meeting engagement 2. Using area fire in suspected spots of enemy location 3. Massing armor in one spot (moving together, etc) 4. Flanking maneuvers around map edge (though I have seen arguments for this beign gamey - most seem to think it is not) 5. Destroying building that infantry could be hiding in systematically Again these are more or less the "biggies" that I have found. Anyone else have others that I'm missing or noted that my info id incorrect?
  11. It is called a gabomb or gaabomb or gaboom - I can't remember the spelling. and could not find it on a serach with any of the above i noticed that some of my US infantry had it at the end of the Ardenes Operation. The icon looked like a big fat grenade. Is this good against tanks or like a demolition charge or what?
  12. I'm fairly new to PBEM myself. would gladly show you the ropes. I can usually do a turn or so a night and on weekends send me an email at serranoeric@hotmail.com as far as the sites with lists, I would also like to find out
  13. Ok, probably another repeat in the threads but here it goes. While in a battle, my Jumbo Sherman creeps over a hill and engages some infantry at the start of a turn. Once crested, it begins to take hits from a gun (I would have only assumed) because all the shells continued to break up or Richocet of the armor. The tank - nor I - could see where the shots were coming from. However, the tank continued to attack the infantry - with just the MG. I would have throught that (if I was part of that dumb crew) to back up and out of harms way or look around for the offending guns. Maybe the tank AI knew that the type of shell hitting it was "of lesser caliber" and could sit there and take the pounding, however, me worried that it was something bigger and wanted the tank to back off. Should the tank AI be made that if they encounter fire from an unknown location and threat - to back off...like it does when it sees a greater threat (bigger tank, etc)? BTW, the tank was taking a hit every 4-5 sec. by the 8th one the gun was damaged ----- USELESS TANK ---- all while it just sat there mixing it with inf.
  14. I did not think about that, but because the house was in the way, I had to move just to be able to get a closer shot in. But it was getting around the house that was the key issue. I also wanted to turn the tank to face the gun foward to have the thickest armor facing the gun. Hey....I'm a member now!!!
  15. I agree with the above However, both tanks had comleted their move orders and had the gun targeted, they just did not fire afterwards. that's what enfuriated me. Thanks for the replie's ya'll
  16. Ok, thanks, I fixed the spoiler thing. to answer your other question, I issued fast move order then a rotate towards the gun. But the distance they needed to move was short and when the order was completed, that was when they actually had LOS to the gun. Both tanks were buttoned, I think one was down a crew member but both had intact guns and plenty of ammo. and none were shocked. they both sat there for about 40 seconds just smiling at the gun, I guess.
  17. Hey, do it another 1800 times today and I'll be done with my shift at work without doing any work...COOOLLL
  18. Caution : potential scenarior spoilers!!!! OK, I pose a question to the honorable forum members. First, I know that there have been many threads on this area but I would like specific thoughts on this case. Sorry, but I did not save the game or capture shots (i'm not THAT talented). I was playing through the first battle of the "Drive to Mortain(sp?)" Operation. as the allies. I had driven almost all the way to the other end of the map. there is a crossroad there (near the top center of the map) which there is a building and a corner - kind like a L shape of woods behind the building. There was a german gun of some type in the corner of the L-shape of the woods. on turn 20, I already knew the gun was there and I had 2 sherman tanks, one on each side of the building, but none had LOS to the gun. My plan was to rush both tanks foward a bit in order for both to get LOS and have one take the gun out. I targeted the gun on both of them, even though they did not have the LOS at the time. I hit DONE and watched the film. initally it all seemed to be working fine, both tanks rushed up and faced the gun. Both then showed red lines to the gun and both had LOS. THEN.....Nothing....nothing....nothing.... I don't een recall them firing their machine guns at it. Then gun targeted on of the tanks, which took 3 shots and the 3rd killed it. Turn over, battle over, move to next battle with one less tank and one more german gun to worry about.... Notably I was ticked, but mostly puzzled at the lack of action by my tanks. Any THoughts? 19. You are a "junior" member until you get 30 posts on this board. then you become a "full" member.... hey this gets me one step closer...
  20. Hey, I'm not sure about the answer, . . . but darn... Great Research!
  21. I think that if maybe what you could do is to have a "penalty" for buying a lot of cheap vehicles. Example: say a jeep with a .50 is worth 20 points OK then make it so you can buy 2 or 3 for that price, then make the 4th one be worth 30, then the next one 40, then the next 50 and so on... I think I am getting my point across. you can also limit the number of cheap vehicles allowed depending on the force that has already been bought. Since most of these cheap vehicles are support vehicles, make a limit on say having 3 jeeps allowed per company of infantry bought or something the like. Just some thought of a guy at the bottom of the Totem Pole....
  22. Agree with the above. "Call 'em as U see 'em"
  23. 31, married for 4 years. 2 dogs (both beagles) I'm a doctor in an emergency room. Play nothing by CM now. Wife calls it "one of those games...". She likes some games, but not this - to bad, could have been good for hotseat play!!!
  24. Hey Splinty, I sent you an email How about a challenge 82ndAB?
  25. OK, I'm just problably beign really weird here. but I just begun my PBEM experience adn I like it and would like to expand it some. However, I would like to make a challenge with whoever answer's this little trivia question... Where did the phrase " the whole nine yards " came from? Ok, maybe this is not so hard but again, I'm just having a weird morning.
