WIFE TAKES GAME! Man devastated. sniff.
JediJobu replied to Gpig's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Gentlemen, Here is the correct way to earn your computer time. My wife actually works longer hours than I do, so what I do is play when I get home and then when he calls to tell me that she'll be home in 30 min, I rush around and do all the house chores so she can just relax when she gets home with this: 1. I get my CM fix 2. House chrores are done 3. Wife Happy. She actually tells me to play when she's at work so we can spend time together when she's home !!! Ahhhhhh. Life is Grand -
Very interesting thread... OK. Jedi - easy, I' a huge Star Wars fan Jobu - well, there's a movie called Major League about a baseball team. came out in late 80's. Anyone who saw it might remember the Cuban guy that like to do vodoo stuff. His last name was Cerrano. My Last name is Serrano. His little vodoo doll's name was Jobu. My friends started calling me that one day and it stuck. Hence ... JediJobu plus I'm not that creative to come up with something better

In the latest PC gamer, CM was voted the best turn based Strategy Game. I did not read the article - pressed for time - but made me feel good that CM continues to make people notice... BTS - better stock up again, more orders are coming. ...

Presetting MG Pillboxes/Bunkers Ambush Targets
JediJobu replied to Faust's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
What annoys me more is that MG Pillboxes only have 1 MG - might be more poweful, but still can only engage 1 target at a time. I would think that a pillbox can have 2-3 MG's in it capable of targeting that many targets in a "rush". Now I see that a wooden bunker might only have one. -

Playing 1.1. git a file which I was about to call a cease fire. think that the other player (PBEM) already requested a cease fire. I hit Alt-C (or whichever key it is - can't remember) and the film is generated and at the end of it - when the blue bar is all the way to the end it freezes up and cannot do anything. Had to hit the reset button once. Loaded it up and tried again, again locked up. this time hitting Esc closed CM completely and put me to the desktop. this has been the only time this has ever happeneded. Should I send in a file to BTS for reproduction or just write it off?

My search did not reveal that this has been talked about so I will ask. How come we cannot do a quick battle where you could "hypothetically" fight with 2 sides of the same like Axis forces Vs. Axis or US vs. US or vs. British and so on. Obiously this is completely historically inaccurate but you could think of it as crushing a renegade outfit or fighting of a coupe attempt - would be more admissible to German forces I would think but since its just in the interest of fun... why not??

I don't think this happens, but should arty fire on or right near a minefield either disable or reduce the effectiveness of a minefield due to mines beign set off by the explosions?

Piat vs Bazooka vs Panzershrk
JediJobu replied to Horncastle's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
I killed a Sherman tank (76mm i think) with a Scheck 2 nights ago at range of 201m with a frontal hit on the first shot.... I think that says it all. -
Can anyone list out in some type of order the ranking of German inf units available from best to worst or something like that. this of course assumin that they are all regular or veteran or whatever. as long as they are all have the same experince level. I am having a hell of a time what is better than others. will all the different types available. Thanks

New Gaming Computer Advice ??
JediJobu replied to fubart's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
I pride myself in this kind of advise. tell me...about how much are u willing to spend and do you need peripherals (mouse, keyboard, joystick, etc) and do U need a monitor - or want a bigger one. If you like you can email me on this to keep it more personal. Just a lending hand... -
OT: Win95 crash, now "normal" mode is safe mode?? HELP!
JediJobu replied to Chris's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
does it say "safe mode" on the 4 corners of the screen or does the screen resolution just looks like you are in safe mode? Just making sure you are not about to do something terrible when there really is not a problem. -
Too Much Information About Enemy Troop Quality?
JediJobu replied to JessRobinson's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
I agree with the above and while we are at it. why do you also get to see whether a shot into an AVF or tank immobilizes them or hits the gun from over 1000m away.??? I would understand if its close and you can actually see a tread or wheel "fly off" or see the gun barrel bent or broken off, but what about from a distance. i think it's unfair to reveal that kind of info to your enemy that a hit from that far damaged your gun. You can still move and make the enemy think that you've got something that you really don't, a tank or avf capable of firing and have him commit troops to that avf instead of the ones that can still fight? -
Has there ever been much talk about beign able to back a tank into a tree line so only the front is exposed. Maybe shoule be able to do this in some instances like ambush settings and such. True that the LOS will be limited to what's directly in front but again, sides and back would be protected from beign seen or hit. Any thoughts.... maybe a future implementation?

Chupacabra, pasting to Wordpad is ok, however, I found it tedious because what I initially had to to was to copy/paste to Word, then reformat the size of the entire document to 8 (font size) then copy/paste to wordpad then save it. What a pain!!! I was doing this every night with about 5-7 PBEM's!!!. Now have new email addrr and I'm Living it wildly!

Not just a defeat, but a *very embarrassing* defeat
JediJobu replied to engy's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
He must have obiously cheated......probably the same program that is affecting a lot of my PBEM files...my Germans can't shoot worth a crap...to my enemies content. Just kidding about that cheating thing BTW -
Had the same problem myself. The best way to do it is actually to save the file directly from IE, if you can. you do this by opening the file..and if it displays on the first window along with the rest of the email, you can click on "File" then "save as", then change your directory, name of file and save it as a TXT file. if you only see an attachment and it opens it in another window, unfortunatelly I found no way of doing the above. I just copied the file and pasted to Notepad then save it as a txt file. a bunch of other things but none worked. might be best then to get different email where attachments can be saved directly.

I did a search on this and did not see any refence for what I am about to ask. It it has been discussed before, I apologize for the repost anyways... when it comes to ambush markers, has it been considered to also have ambush "areas" placed instead of a small round marker? My question comes as I saw an allied tank move just past an ambush marker from a 75mm gun. the gun never fired, just stayed hidden when the target was in sight and good range. No it did not enter the ambush marker but since I could only choose one small spot, i could not cover the entire area that I wanted to really set up an ambush. How come you can't select multiple ambush spots for a unit - say for a gun to cover anything in front of it in a 45 degree angle up to 150m out? Or have a gun in between 2 houses that covers anything that passes in front of it for 500m? In other words, setting up and ambush "lane" or "area" instead of just one spot. Of, course, the area or lane would have to be within reason... Just a thought.

BEST scenarios for TCP/IP or PBEM
JediJobu replied to Jumbo's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
My opponents as well as myself have a soft spot for the Eldsdorf scenario as a pbem, haven't tried it as tcp yet -
Ok, I know this is not the usual place for this, I just don't want to go to a ladder place. I just want 2-3 more PBEM opponets. I play fair, any side. Send me an email or a set up at eserrano@kc.rr.com thanks all

Is this game really as good as they say?
JediJobu replied to gossamer's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
My unbiased .02 cents on this. I am a very busy person and have limited time for games - unfortunatelly. I have to pick and choose wisely on the game that I buy, not b/c I can't afford them but b/c of my time limitations I figure I better pick the ones that would be most enjoyable. Combat mission has been one of my 2 games that I get to play and have been doing so for 3-4 months now. CM is true to the genre with great innovations in it. I have never played a war game as good a this ever. Yeah, there are always classics but this one still wins by a long haul. Never had any technical difficulties with it. Very detailed and strategically demanding - unlike other games that once a strategy is found you can use it succesfully every time. Longevity is superb with play-by-email or internet play. AI is fairly good and until you get the hang of the game, does plenty to make you reload your old saved game. Excellent support from the makers with patches to fix up very small details. In short - I has been the best $45 spent in a game for me in a long, long time. Have a nice day!
