M_Ridgeway, does that Voodoo card support the fog? I'm trying to debate what kind of new video card to get, and would prefer one that supports the fog, assuming it is not Too expensive.

This isn't exactly the same topic, but similar...
How would one "slow down" the intro movie? Or is it even possible? It runs awfully fast IMO. Makes it hard to actually get a good look at some of the detail.
-
Oh, a relic.
I haven't played that for years, unfortunately. Moved on to STARS!, and now CM.
-
The other thing I forgot to mention, and I attrbute it also to only having a 4mb video card...
All movement, targeting, command, etc lines are in light blue. No other colors show up. But like i said, I can live with it for a few more weeks

How about some classics from Buckaroo Banzai (my favorite cult classic):
BB: It drives like a truck.
John Parker: What's a truck?
One heat-seeking missile and he's history.
and the most classic...

I know how you feel FUTURE. The mods on Madmatt's site had me drooling. That's what made me decide to upgrade sooner rather than later. Just so I can get the benefit of seeing those awesome mods.

I'm using a 233mhz, 64mb memory, and a 4mb video card. The game runs fine for me (although the larger battles do tend to slow it down, which is not unusual). The graphics are fine but lack fine detail. Building details (like doors and windows) and vehicle details (like bogie wheels) appear blurred when viewed close up (ie camera 1), but from a distance it's fine.
The only problem I have so far is when creating my own scenario... when I preview the map, everything is white. I can make out no details. I can barely see unit bases, and the lines denoting different zones. Can't see terrain features at all. It's something I can live with for a time, since I plan on upgrading my memory and video card within the next month.

The howitzer on the M3 ih Kelly's heroes is pretty much a 75mm pack howitzer. I'm pretty sure it's too small to be a 105mm pack. And as Slapdragon said, it was uncommon in that particular theater. It saw much more use in North Africa and Italy IIRC.

IIRC, from various sources I've read in the past (which I can't recall the titles of)... Some companies were issued a number of Springfield 1903 scoped rifles to be issued at the CO's discretion to soldiers who had excellent marksman skills for use as snipers/sharpshooters. This would go along with the adhoc idea. The rifles were not standard issue, as all companies or units did not receive them, just scattered units here and there.
IMO, this is why the guy in Saving Private Ryan carries one.

IIRC, patch 1.05 allows vehicles to follow a road that is on a 'slope'. I remember that much from the readme file. Not sure if cliffs were included in that or not.

There is also supposed to be the review of Hasbro's Squad Leader on Friday (9/22). Their newsletter even said it is "nothing like the famed board game".
I suppose we'll see.

Perhaps some battles from the Soviet-Finland border? MAybe even Finnish SIssi ski troops could make an appearance?

I believe the German tanks in "A Bridge Too Far" (the one that drove over the Arnhem bridge alone, and the one that trapped Urquhart) were modern German Leopard I's. Anyone else know?

I'm pretty sure the American tanks used in "Battle of the Bulge" were Chaffees. McAuliffe is quite correct that it was hard to find the actual numbers of Tigers and Panthers needed to make the movie. "Kelly's Heroes" was made in Yugoslavia because at the time, the Shermans were still active duty tanks, and thay had enough of them. As for "A Bridge A Too Far", I'd love to know where they got the numbers of Shermans they used for 30 Corp. (As a side note, the destroyed tanks they bulldoze off the road bear no resemblance to Shermans. Guess they didn't want to destroy any of the rare tanks).

Rambooster is an excellent program. I've been using it for quite awhile as well.

In today's CDmag online newsletter, they say they will be having a review of Computer SL up on the site in the next few days. They have barely described what it is supposed to be like however. Guess we'll have to wait and see what they say.

Well, I'm not sure about the second part, but objective flags don't show up in operations. All progress is judged by how far you make it across the Operation map.

The MP44 does look similar to the AK-47 because the Mp44 is what Mr. Kalishnakov used as a template for his infamous weapon, just as we used the MG42 as the base for the M60.

It's not the direct fire AT you have to worry about. It's the enemy mortars. They will "counter-battery" your HT's and take them out. I lost 3 mortar HT's to German 81mm mortars in my last QB. The AT mortars are Very accurate.
-
Sure do. Cannot wait for the TCP/IP patch. Games should run quite smoothly then. CC always did, so CM should be no different.
-
There was a thread a little while ago about mortar accuracy (I think it related to the Brit 2 incher). At the time I had no opinions one way or the other. That certainly changed. During my last QB, I lost 2 halftracks, 1 M8, and 2 Hellcats to German 81mm mortar fire. All were top penetrations. With the exception of the halftracks, the other 3 were against fast-moving targets. I think the accuracy against moving targets is just a tad too good.

I have that same problem, but I am running with a 4mb video card. I'm pretty sure that's what is preventing me from viewing the preview map with better quality. I have seen CM on a computer with a better card, and the amount of detail puts mine to shame.

Actually, the actual game is out on shelves in some parts of the country. ALthough I haven't found it in any store near me yet.
