  1. I don't know how many people remember Command HQ, but it was a simple world war strategy game. Almost 'real time', for 1991 standards. It used a turn system, but it wasn't dictated by you. It ran constantly, like a RTS format. It was a wonderful game, however after playing it a million times you begin to think of all the new things you'd like to see. I was happy to sumble on SC, as I haven't played a game like this in a long time. I was just wondering where the grand strategy games went (The more simpler ones). I never cared much for the V for Victory type series. Too much detail for my tastes. I've been playing only the demo recently and can't wait to get the full game. Is there any plans for a global strategy game in the same vein as SC? The great thing about Command HQ was, playing as Axis you could go anywhere you wanted to based on your personal strategy. Build up an army to land in Brazil, work up through Mexico and into the US while your Japanese fleet comes in from the Pacific.
  2. Thanks Matt, I sent you an e-mail just now. Also, Mord...my fiancee has a computer in the apartment, so I will try it on hers just to see if I get the same result. Thanks for the help everyone!
  3. Thanks guys. I definitely can't afford to buy the CD over again, I guess I was trying to see if I could send my original CD and manual back to get a new one. Now that I think about it, ha! If I scratched a music CD, I definitely couldn't go back to Tower Records and get a 'replacement'. Ah boy...well it's scratched and won't work, so attempting with the CD repair kit really won't do me any more harm. Either that, or it's new coaster material. Ugh.
  4. Hi, my CM CD is scratched and it seems I can't copy over certain parts of the game during an install. A lot of .BMP files aren't able to copy, and Lord knows what else. Is there a way for me to get a replacement CD? I have the CD and the instruction booklet, that's about it. I've tried manually installing, same problem..."Cannot copy from specified drive". Error 517. I can't even preview the .BMP files...the CD ROM can't access them. HEEEEEEEELP! Would like some instructions on how to go about this. Thanks! Reply here or e-mail at kicks31@pacbell.net
  5. I posted a few days ago I lost my Combat Mission CD. It's secured...mission accomplished. Woot!! ------------------ College Football approaches... www.getfanatical.com
  6. I moved awhile ago, and out of ALL my games I had to lose CM. I cannot find it ANYWHERE. I still have the manual, so I torture myself by reading it. I remember seeing it during the move(Since I originally dropped off the box of games at my dads place). I knew it was there, but from that point on...POOF. I know I'm ranting and this is useless to every single human being on earth, besides myself...but just let me air this situation out with words. I am determined...I WILL locate CM...ugh. ------------------ College Football approaches... www.getfanatical.com
  7. Don't forget the Inf. popping smoke whenever they retreat in SP. Definitely none of that in CM. Plus, the infantry in SP don't have all the different suppresion values that CM does. If I remember correctly, SP's infantry were either okay, pinned, or routed. ------------------ College Football approaches... www.getfanatical.com
  8. Also...one thing I noticed on this Op. It seems the German troops don't know how to get off the bridge once their attack bogs down. They all kinda lay around in one spot, while I drop my 75mm on their heads and pound them with small arms fire. Eventually, I guess if they completely rout, they manage their way back off the bridge. Is this a small problem in the AI, or are the German troops trying to hold their position on the bridge? Now...vehicles access the bridge just fine. In fact I've been impressed. I've been subjected to years of Close Combat tanks and how retarded their crews were. I would be lucky to get 1 tank over a bridge. But now...I see 2-3 tanks going over...AND seeing them push knocked out vehicles out of the way as they try to bulldoze past my perimiter. Lovely... ------------------ College Football approaches... www.getfanatical.com
  9. I'm currently playing the Arnhem Bridge: Red Devils Op. and I feel like I'm watching "A Bridge Too Far". I have burning/knocked out armored cars and halftracks littering my side of the bridge. Once the German armor tries driving between the two front buildings, all I can see is grenades, gammom bombs and AT missiles flying through the air. Sometimes a little too far...landing in the building across from them. Awesome Operation. CM never ceases to amaze me. ------------------ College Football approaches... www.getfanatical.com
  10. Really though, it's not Tom Hanks. In fact, it really, really looks like Kurt Warner. Being a big Ram fan, I guess I may be biased. But the stubble, the eyes...it's Warner all right. ------------------ College Football approaches... www.getfanatical.com
  11. Yeah...my 81mm's are tank destroying fools. I've taken out about 3 PzIV's with a single 81mm in a recent fight over Noville. He's more potent than my zooks are, and he can kill from much farther distances. Was this sort of thing common? Or does the accuracy need to be toned down a bit? ------------------ College Football approaches... www.getfanatical.com

  14. Hmmmm...don't think so John. I've noticed MG's and (I think) mortar units don't have a direct C&C line(Visible) to a CO. I've also noticed very LONG black lines...don't know if it disappears when you're far enough away. Generally I at least try to keep all the units under a certain CO in the vicinity of each other. I don't send half the squads to the left flank and the other half to the right...you'll only be able to keep one group under C&C. ------------------ College Football approaches... www.getfanatical.com
  15. Guy Sajer is the author of "The Forgotten Soldier" and also "Soldat" I believe(What I've heard anyway). The Forgotten Soldier is a very awesome read. I loaned it to a friend, who is no longer a friend, so I went and bought it again. Well worth my money. ------------------ College Football approaches... www.getfanatical.com
  16. Tout le monde...cool Megadeth song dude. Rock on man! ------------------ College Football approaches... www.getfanatical.com
  17. I've bought every CC game. I was a CC whore. Couldn't get enough of 'em. I liked CC4 for the strategic element, but in all the CC's the AI sucks! It is horrible, especially on offense. CC2 is by far the best though, with CC4 right behind it. Unfortunately for the CC series, CM has come...which is where I hoped the CC series was headed. Alas, CC5 will be the same thing. I have to give credit to CC for all the years I've played it, and all the enjoyment. But... There's a new King in town. Sorry Close Combat...I'll always remember you. ------------------ College Football approaches... www.getfanatical.com
  18. When I played CC, all I used the Roster for was to immediately see who was being slaughtered or not. Then I could quickly click on the unit and go to the hot spot to try and get them out of it. Or if I heard a tank brew up, I wanted to know which one. I still see it as a necessity for CC because it's in REAL TIME, and having that roster is almost necessary. Otherwise you'd be scrambling all over the screen to see what the hell was going on, trying to issue orders. In CM, you have the luxury of checking on all your units without the pressure of issuing orders to save their asses. There is no immediate need to place a roster in CM. It'd simply be a minor luxury. Time could be better spent elsewhere. We're already wasting time playing a game, so waste some more finding your units. ------------------ College Football approaches... www.getfanatical.com
  19. John: Regarding the 'Info Bar' ala Close Combat...I too thought they should of included one in CM when I first played it. But...once you get used to it, you won't even think about it. Close Combat really needed one because it's in real-time, and you don't have the luxury of replaying your last turn over and over to see what happened. Since CM does let you do that, it's only a matter of spending time and looking over the battlefield. It's a bit time consuming, BUT...I personally find it hella fun to watch the turn over a few times, and don't mind taking the extra time to do so. I orient myself with my forces as well as have a cool time doing so. ------------------ College Football approaches... www.getfanatical.com
  20. Also, I find generally that you pretty much know where your forces are(Generally speaking ). A quick way to find troops in a vicinity is to "Lasso" them with the mouse. You'll see the box outlines of squads, then you can click on them individually. ------------------ College Football approaches... www.getfanatical.com
  21. LOL Mirage...beat me. ------------------ College Football approaches... www.getfanatical.com
  22. John: You're talking about concessions for gameplay reasons. We assume the soldiers find the entrance to the building, either through a blown out wall, door or window. Collision detection and LOS is at the center of a tank for, again, gameplay reasons. For moving groups, I suggest moving the ones that *won't* be stuck out in the open as a group. The ones that *will* be stuck in the open if you were to move all of them as a group, move individually. While still a bit tedious, you can still move 3 or so squads as a group move, instead of 6 individually. Also, the tank moved quicker than the infantry did because of 'in command' status. You probably ordered the tank to move and also the infantry to embark, but the tank carried out it's orders much more quickly than the infantry. By the time the infantry received their orders, the tank was already bouncing along. Ya gotta check the delay time for orders. The tank probably took 8 seconds to receive the "Move Fast" command, while the infantry took 33 seconds to receive the "Embark" command. Hope this helps. Basically...keep playing the demo and read the readme a couple times. You'll get the hang of it. ------------------ College Football approaches... www.getfanatical.com

  24. Easy solution: Bring in the real lighting effects, but give the option to turn them off for people who don't have the horsepower. ------------------ College Football approaches... www.getfanatical.com
  25. Blue Macs: So the Stuart fired and the round bounced back and brewed up the same Stuart? Anyone know if this was even a realistic probability? I didn't know we were playing ping-pong. ------------------ College Football approaches... www.getfanatical.com
