  1. I just ordered my copy! I am going to recommend those in my WWII On-line squad that don't have CM to get it. It'd be a great learning tool while we wait for WWIOL to come on-line. I still stay up until 4am playing the damn demo! ------------------ College Football approaches... www.getfanatical.com
  2. That's a good point. The thing is, the out of contact unit will still react to the unit that is unseen by you, so either way you'll know somethings over there, just not exactly what. Like you said, it seems to be a minor realism slip.
  3. I don't have the full game yet, and had a couple of questions/suggestions. First, is it possible at the end of a battle to watch the entire fight from beginning to end? And for CM2, I would like to recommend a recordable camera option(If my first question is possible). When I had Aces of the Pacific, they used a camera system where you could be like a director and record camera angles after a mission was over. What you would do with CM is, after an entire battle is over, you choose to go to director mode. In this mode, you get to watch the entire 35 turns or whatever from beginning to end. In the director mode there would also be a recording option. You set where you want the camera, then hit record. It records the action from your camera angle. Just pause it, make a new angle, then start recording again. This way you could put your best battles into a saved camera format which would also be presented to potential viewers in an organized, cool manner. They can see all the important action and with cool directorial flare. If this has been talked about a million times over already, I'm sorry to bring it up again. I just recently came over here from the WWII On-line forum and I'm not quite up to date as the rest of you are.
  4. There really shouldn't be much comparison/arguing between CM/CM2 and WWII On-line. WWII On-line will be an on-line ONLY game, with training done off-line. I still love single player games, and no matter how good WWII On-line is I'm still going to buy and play games like CM. Combat Mission is an absolutely stunning achievement in gaming and I can only see this new genre getting better and better. If WWII On-line succeeds as it is planned, it will be a stunning achievement in On-line gaming. Plus, CM is geared toward strategy over personal involvement like WWII On-line is going to be. These can sometimes be two very different kinds of players. There are people who would rather tell a Sherman what to do, rather than be the one inside it.
  5. Hey guys...I've been following WWII On-line for awhile now and I'll try to fill you in with some basics. Go to www.hq.ww2online.com for an updated FAQ on everything you want to know. Rank is handled by you completing a successful mission. Say you just started WWII On-line in the German Army. You'll be a Private and only basic weaponry will be available to you. Missions are posted by people with higher rank and you can find one that you like. If you attain the rank of General, or any other high rank, you become more responsible for the strategic operations of the entire branch you are in(Army, Navy, etc). Depending on the mission type depends on the amount of points awarded. You don't have to accept rank, and there can be only a certain amount of 'active' high rank positions(Can't have 20 Generals in the Army all calling the shots). A very realistic physics and strategical model is being developed. Fire a rifle and your bullets will be subjected to wind, bullet drop, etc. Run out of ammo, you need to be resupplied by somebody(Truck, plane, etc). Get in a hand-to-hand fight, shock and fatigue comes into play to where you may be too worn out to run away from your knife wielding attacker. Tanks can have treads thrown, turrents knocked out, etc. Strategically, everyone won't be able to fly around in a Me-262. Only people with certain rank in that service branch will be able to fly quality planes(Same with any other branch...can't just start out with a Tiger or command a Submarine). And even then, there will be a limited amount, AND limited airfields, etc. from where they can take off. Trust me...I'm not the only one who thinks this game is a daunting task, but just download some of the in-game videos so far and tell me you aren't impressed. Closed Beta has started and is still in Phase 2 I believe. Whoever signed up for Closed Beta has a chance of being in a certain phase. The last phase of the Closed Beta will probably be most if not all the people who applied for it. After that's completed, I believe Open Beta will start. I can tell you this for sure: WWII On-line will not be even close to a Quake type game. The guys doing the development are very hardcore. They even plan on having visible hit-specific damage, such as bullet holes. I'm positive they can pull it off, but only beta will prove that.
