  1. I have read Band of Brothers and I am currently reading D-Day. What I love about Ambrose's books is that the men he discusses in detail are often interviewed in documentaries that appear on the History Channel and other channels. When I see them on TV I feel as if I already know these guys.

I also like Ambrose's books because they are easy to read. They are interesting and straightforward. The last book I read was called World War I (can't remember the author - I think it was John Keegan), and although it was interesting, the style in which it was written made reading it like torture. I couldn't wait to finish it just so I could move on to something else. When I finished Band of Brothers I was disappointed that there was no more to read. I wanted to know what happened to these guys after the war in more detail than was given.

  2. I believe the official explanation is that the time it takes to register the guns and set up TRPs is beyond the scope of the battles in CM. I hope that CM2 allows for indirect fire by in-board artillery as long as a spotter is present, like the way it is currently done with on-board mortars.

Do a search and you will find a lot more on this subject.

  3. Ted, ICQ lets you transfer larger files than some e-mail services allow. Some of the turns files get pretty big. Also, M. Bates told me that many people use web based e-mail such as hotmail and that it is a pain to manage the turns. You also get to chat with each other in real time. Other than that I don't know of any benefits.

When playing by ICQ each person sends files via ICQ and places them in their CMBO PBEM folder. Then you play the turns as you would if transfered by e-mail.

  4. "It was like a good movie soundtrack."

I guess he downloaded the sound mods.

The reviewer is a 15 year old kid, which would explain why he thinks the western European theater had two fronts (maybe he is thinking American and British?) and why he thinks the graphics are not so good. I guess he hasn't downloaded the graphics mods.

Edit: Or maybe he is referring to Italy as the second western front.

  5. If the M10 was hidden behind the hill you could have just faced it to the left - no need to have the turret facing left while the hull was facing north. I am not sure why the M10 didn't fire, but maybe it was in fear of the MkIV but wouldn't move because it was "hiding" in ambush - a head in the sand kind of situation.
