  1. Matt, The order form looks OK to me except the "rush order CMBB" button is missing. Please do sumfink!
  2. Excellent job gentlemen. Especially the defensive work of Buckeye. The importance of wresting the initiative from you opponent is well demonstrated. Play on! It just makes me sadder that CMBO PBEM has been a joy denied me since 9/11. Ah well...I lurk therefore I am.
  3. Hmmm...its a little out of the way but can we consider Chino and the Planes of Fame museum? Its got far more gist for the talking mill. I'm in Santa Clarita, so anything is a 40 min drive. Timeframe: anytime on a weekend Cheers Murray
  4. Unfortunately I have not been around when he's taken the PAK out for a shoot. It would almost be worth a cross-continent trek through I have had the chance though to fire off numerous rounds from his 20mm FLAK38 which he has mounted on the back of his pickup. Just imagine the looks we got pulling through the McDs drive through or on the I-75 with that puppy. Cheers Murray
  5. Skipper, Where have you read this? It strikes me as very odd considering the fact that an AA cannon is designed to deliver HE shells to great heights, something that is achieved by maximizing the Vo of these, HE, shells. I'm pretty much certain that on some Flak 88's the HE shells actually had a higher Vo than the AP ammunition and unless there is something very special about the latter type of round the wear should not be higher when firing them. -- Gander and Chamberlain puts the average service life of an early Flak barrel to 2000 - 6000 rounds depending on barrel type. The figure is reduced to 1500 on the Flak 41. Finally, on the Pak's the number would be 1200-2000. M.</font>
  6. That the Radeon boards haven't managed to invoke the DirectX fog table is a plain old shame. It is the one critical factor in my upcoming purchase. For most graphics applications I find the GeForce and Radeons are interchangeable, except for video work. The tuner and TV-out features of the Radeon are without peer. GeForce cards disable the monitor when using TV-out (skimpy hardware architecture) and provide limited resolutions and (arggg!) a black border (just plain lazy driver support). It is plainly beyond my understanding why Nvidia does not support their GeForce drivers more. Hopefully economics will drive them towards a solution as more people start viewing DVDs and video from the computer. For me proper TV-out functionality and 100% CM compatiblity are essential in any new desktop I purchase. Therefore I shall continue to sit on the fence and wait... Cheers Murray
  7. Anybody check out the monthly video drivers which seem leak out? For example: Driver Webpage I'm holding off on a new desktop purchase and would prefer to get a Radeon 8500 if it would just display fog correctly. cheers Murray
  8. Hey! Watch yer'self there bub! Just exactly what are you suggesting with that whacky remark? I've been watching this Tournament unfold however since that black day I had to bow out. Unfortunately my life has been my own since 9/11. Empathize with me and realize that it is so bad I even had to remove the CMBO CD from my computer! If for nothing else the Al-Quaida faithful should die a miserable screaming death in boiling chicken fat. Cheers Murray

  10. You should also be aware that your men will not receive any terrain masking protection from HE while occupying such a construct. (i.e. not equivalent to crater/trench) Blast damage from nearby HE depends upon the radial distance from the impact point to the target. Intervening high ground will not lessen the effect of the blast. Cheers [ February 27, 2002, 11:50 AM: Message edited by: Claymore ]
  11. Sorry old sod but I'm on an enforced CM diet of late because of work...especially after 9/11. Another month or more at least before my release papers get through. Until then my sig has been I lurk therefore I am
  12. It is with a heavy heart gentlemen that I must announce my withdrawal from the Tournament (and CM PBEM). The real world has been nipping at my heels for quite some time now and I have tried my best to ignore its incessant yapping. Unfortunately, a prolonged hiatus of at least two months is almost assured just to put things to right. If only my family considered food and shelter as luxuries, I could continue my slothful pursuits. I'll be looking in at the forum and watching you knuckleheads batter away at each other, so keep up the chatter. Cheers Murray
  13. Terry, Thanks for the heartfelt thoughts ya bastage! Berli's departure brought a tear to my eye as well. You've managed to best my Yanks in two previous engagements and the last contest witnessed some "remarkable" tank v tank battles. As this contest is for all the sipping rights I'll not chance the experimental stuff of the past. Maybe I'll try out the Jerries for a change. OK? Mike my good man, could you fire off one of your maps to Terry the Pirate and I? Great Wacking Amounts of Pain and Suffering to Any and All. Murray
  14. SH*t P*SS M*F**K'N WH*RE'S Breath! Thanks Berli...really...anytime I can do the same for youse. From the top to the bottom in one easy step. Didn't I tell you all earlier that it's been Kick a Physicist Week lately? Cheers...NO DAMMIT! No Cheers for you all. Instead I wish you all Great Wacking Amounts of Pain and Suffering! 15. Aye it's been a bitter week for yours truely. First I am driven to distraction by the realities of work and home. Then my Tournament games go completely astray. No one to blame but the commander unfortunately. Jarmo: As we have heard I found myself watching and seemingly endless parade of 95mm Cromwells. Nasty buggers have speed and the ability to wipe out armour up to and including JagPanthers with ease. I was not aware of them before. But as the saying goes "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, I'm an idiot". Shandorf: Excellent little battle which which played here. A blind purchase revealed that I had chosen my tools wisely (Fallschirmjagers and armour) as the map was a farmland sectioned off by bocage. I got off to a good start but handled the constrained LOS conditions badly and now find myself looking down the sights of a surviving M4(75) and M8. Not much of his infantry left but not many PShrek rounds left either. MrSpkr: He seems to have fallen off the edge of the world I'm afraid. It's too soon to tell in this one but I am confident. My troops have advanced quickly and overwatching mortar FOs will give him a hard time of it. Fuerte: Just started. A city surrounded by groves of thick woods. There's a bit of rain but that shouldn't hinder my King Tigers from grinding what appears to be the Free French under my treads. Galanti: Sent out purchases to Mike. We've got an Infantry only battle here with a map dusted with light snow. Cheers Murray
  16. Please god....before another idiot comes into my office and attempts to get me to volunteer for some lame review panel...SOMEBODY SEND ME A CHALLENGE! Oh no...the doorknob's turning...maybe if I squeeze myself under my desk...ok..tuck the keyboard in there first...ugh..ack... Ok...I'm all set...nobody will find me here. Cheers Murray
  17. The soil has loosened around my gravesite enough during the past few nights that I can now extend one thin and scabrous claw to peck out a few games of CM. Jarmo has kindly sent many of my valiant troopers to reside with me in my eldritch abode. I expect a 35/65 loss in that contsest. Shandorf either knows not how to end a game or he is just toying with my emotions. HA! Little does he know that I have none. At least none that survive a liberal dosing of peaty spirits. I need games! Is Fionn still in this mess? Last I heard Mike was still awaiting his purchase list. I need games. Who wants a poke at me? Cheers Murray
  18. The news of my death is greatly exagerated. Just a note to let everyone know that I am still in this...just that my turn rate has slowed of late. I hope Moon reconsiders. If not that then at least finishes our game. Cheers Murray
  19. Mike, Does that mean games in progress proceed? Or is the slate wiped clean and all players (including Berri-Berri ) get a mulligen? It seems like a total re-do is what is being proffered here. Maybe even the Irish Juggernaut will not have as easy a time of it in the "new and improved" Tourney. If a re-do is truth, will you make up new maps for those games that are to be redone? Some of these battles were blind purchase thing-ies. Also, should the field remain stocked with the quality players we had before, I have no problem continuing my prize offer of one bottle of the Dew of Life to the winner. 20. -- key music - Disney theme - lots of strings -- -- small rodent steps in front of a microphone and begins...-- When the TofS was born Rules were scarce and very few One of them was this Win or lose, toast with a brew Ah...when you were a Tourney Star made no difference who you are Pommies, Krauts and Frenchies too All marched for you First those gamey moves my friend caused poor Mikey's heart to rend now no request is too extreme for your dear troops -- music swells...a group of mangey CM players recognizable only from post office notices rise in the darkened theater, join hands and swaying back and forth sing the chorus... BOOM! -- shot rings out from audience and mouse falls dead...TofS players vanish back into the darkness...music ends...curtain falls -- I'm glad we are back. Reading the postings last night however gave me a headache second only in magnitude to that that given me by my lovely children. Shall we have one last post from Mike/Charl outlining the manner in which games are created and the players involved? Cheers Murray (former TofS participant) [ 08-15-2001: Message edited by: Claymore ] [ 08-15-2001: Message edited by: Claymore ]
  21. Mike, Mucho gratis mon amigo. I'd continue the Tournament regardless of what rules were decided...it's the PLAY not the winning that matters here. That being said though I always play to win. Most of my opponents are represented by small effigies which are hung upon my wall, taken down in moments of picque. The eldritch and arcane rituals intoned over these figures ensures the loss of my opponent and the eventual withering of their manly parts. Obviously the closer the effigy resembles the actual player the more effective these incantations. Having played Fionn previously I have all the necessary informantion for his twisted and deformed shape, but if the following players could furnish me with the hair colour and any distinguishing marks I would be very appreciative: Jarmo, MrSpkr, and especially Moon.
  22. In order to make Mike and Charl's job easier I've created this thread. Please respond here if you intend on remaining in the Tournament under the rules agreed upon at the inception of the event. Mike and Charl...if this thread is not helpful, please post to it and request its termination. Ok...first vote to me. Claymore (Murray) = I want to continue.
  23. Ok Dammit! I guy tries to take a weekend off and spend it with the wife and kids only to find out the entire universe is threatening implosion! Mike and Charl. You both have my thanks. Please ignore the whinning and continue the Tournament. To those others...What an utter load of horsecrap. It's a game for christ's sake. If you feel that your personal electronic reputation is too precious to maintain following a loss or two of a GAME then GET THE HELL OUT. 1. Right up front the rules by which the tournament was to be run under were thrashed out. If you felt that those rules were unfair then there was ample time to drop out. In fact, nothing is keeping you chained to the event. Feel free to drop out now graciously. 2. What did any of the participants contribute to this? Mike and Charl have taken an not inconsiderable amount of time to organize and run this event. The ONE exception that I am aware of is that Charles (TT) helped out Mike with the scheduling. Maybe I'm missing some other help but dammit, for someone at the eleventh hour to cry foul is poor sportsmanship. Damn. Try this in any other arena except the electronic one and you'll be served a heaping dish of hurt. 3. As far as I am aware only Mike, his wife Charl, and I have contributed awards to this affair. What does any of the other participants have invested? Everybody back up and take a deep breath. Me included. Mike and Charl...my hat is off to you both. It takes an incredible amount of stamina to run a tournament on top of the real world events we all find ourselves in. All you others...if you can't abide by the original charter of the Tournament then get the hell out.
  24. I for one do not orient my attack upon the VLs and I always wish to crush my opponent. If there is any "vote" for changing the maps feel free to put me in the "makes no difference" category. cheers Murray
