  1. I just got done reading The Road to Arnhem by Donald R. Burgett and i couldn't put the book down for a week it was so good. The book is about the 101st Airborne in Operation Market Garden and goes till the end of the operation. I just got Seven Roads to Hell, A Screaming Eagle in Bastogne which should be really good. I guess if you like Airborne units this is a pretty good read.
  2. The AI is more challenging since 1.03 was released. I watched the AI use some very heavy artillery on me in one Quick Battle and i never saw it use that kind of artillery before 1.03. I think some of the adjustments to the code helped out.
  3. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Germanboy: Uh, short reality check please. There is no perfect code. There will always be some quibble. And putting the pressure on Charles is not going to make it come faster or come in better quality. This foxhole bug has affected one out of probably 30 PBEMs I have done. So you can as well start playing now. If you are afraid that it ruins a canned scenario, you can do quick battles. Much better for PBEM anyway, because of the balance. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Uh, I know there is not a perfect code and i was thinking someone is going to post about me saying i something about perfect, but i decided not to change it. I don't like the foxhole bug because why use pines if your infantry or anti-tank guns can be spotted so easy when hiding in pines, its a waste of my time to play a PBEM game if my units can be spotted in foxholes in pines across the battlefield. I think me posting about 1.03 is putting pressure on anyone and i didn't start this thread i just posted some replys. I also don't like that i can't embark a 57mm RCL team into a jeep or halftrack because they are facing backwards and riding on the hood of the jeep. Those are the only things that i want to see fixed.
  4. I just want CM to be perfect before i begin any PBEM games because there might some bugs that would give the attacker or defender a unfair advantage. I know there is a bug when you have infantry in pines hiding in foxholes its like there in open ground and can be spotted easy.
  5. Why don't you embark a Allied 57mm RCL on a jeep or halftrack and see what happens and then tell me there isn't any bugs or how about foxholes in pines. The foxholes can be spotted very easy. The foxhole bugs is the only reason i'm not playing any PBEM because of that also why start a PBEM when it might not work with version 1.03
  6. Thanks, I would really like some high quality textures to go with my new graphics card
  7. I was hoping to see the 1.03 patch posted tonight but its still 1.01, I really hope they release the patch for this weekend.
  8. I think thats why its been over a month since a new version because there going to add TCP/IP to version 1.03 and are still beta testing the networking.
  9. I've been waiting for 1.03 to get released and pretty much live on BTS board. I"ve saw a lot of posts about winterized vehicles but when i look at the screen shots they all look like they have the same camouflage pattern and shade. I'd like to see some diffrent camouflage patterns. Does CM use just one file and paints all the vehicles that camouflage pattern?
  10. I'm starting to think that BTS is working on the TCP/IP. I'm not sure what would be holding up 1.03 but that. I just want the last few bugs fixed so i can start a PBEM game.
  11. OK 1.02 was for just the 2nd batch of Combat Mission that was produced and the demo
  12. Hello, We are waiting for 1.03 and patch 1.02 was on the CM demo and on 2nd runs of Combat Mission. I saw a post last week saying 1 more week before 1.03 is released but its been over a month since the last update so who knows when it will be released.
  13. I think my favorite is the Panzer IVs. The Panzer IV has great firepower with its 75mm main gun, and mobility with its max speed at 38 km/h, and protection. The Panzer IV has a good balance and isn't a axis armored unit you would just drive around in on the battlefield. I also like the skirts and it has a cool camouflage.
  14. What a great light tank, blistering with machine guns and its 37 mm main gun can do some damage to light armored vehicles and infantry. I've watched it take a beating and keep going after gettting hit a few times. I haven't used the T8 reconnaissance vehicle yet but it looks promising with its 50 cal. I do like the M8 HMC with its 75 mm howitzer it does pretty good at meduim to long range against infantry.
  15. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Jeff Heidman: I think Kestrl is right. I know that for me, winning is the only thing that matters. If I can win without it being any kind of challenge, so much the better. A lot of times I just make up my own scenarios against the computer where I do not even give the computer any forces, so I win immediately every time. Sometimes, I would give the computer like a single jeep or something, but I found I would have to go find it, and that seemed like strategy, so I quit doing that! I am certain that, like me, the vast majority of people who would use gridlines to see what you could see in real life are whinging poms, who have no desire to be challenged at all, which is why we all shelled out $50+ from Comabt Missions to beign with. Jeff Heidman P.S. - For the humor impaired amongst us, the former was firmly tobgue in cheek. Any resemblance to a serious post was coincidental and unintentional.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> I would rather have a good battle or operation and lose. I want my PBEM or just regular games to be historic and if i want a better look at a hill or something like that i'd move the camera closer to the ground. I think if i wanted grids i'd play some other game. I like simulations/games that are historic and i don't think grids on the battlefield are very historic and if everyone who posted likes grids thats fine but its just not my thing.
  16. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Kestrl: I"ve been waiting to play any Scenarios/Opps, because i believe there is a few bugs that need to be squashed before i start a PBEM and I think there is a couple bugs that would either give a unfair advantage or hinder a player. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Just quick battles for me until 1.03 is released, its turning into a very very very very very long long long wait, crossing fingers and toes hoping this this week it will be released. Why should you start a PBEM if you won't be able to finish it after 1.03 is released.

  18. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by kverdon: Just a question to those testing v1.03. Since 1.03 should be out in a few weeks and since most scenarios are the most fun when played for the first time, I'm just asking if it would be worth holding off on playing the scenarios until 1.03 comes out? I've played about half the scenarios but I've found a quick mission can be a hoot as well. If 1.03 is worth waiting for, I'd rather just stick to quick missions for now. Thanks, Kevin<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> I"ve been waiting to play any Scenarios/Opps, because i believe there is a few bugs that need to be squashed before i start a PBEM and I think there is a couple bugs that would either give a unfair advantage or hinder a player.
  19. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by mfred: What next, first people want Hull down command added, now a grid!!! Might as well take all the challenge out of the game. Maybe winning is everthing. PBEM games will suffer, especially fog, or night games if both people are not using the grid. The Grid would only be part realistic if a unit could see grid from camera 1. My 2 cents worth. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> I agree with Mfred, I think its all about winning for most people and getting the greatest advantage, they don't want a challenge or use any strategy and when they win its just a hollow victory. I don't really care if people use this Grid terrain because i won't be playing against them in a PBEM game. I enjoy the historical part of Combat Mission and wouldn't use something like that. I also believe PBEM game will suffer because people are using grids. I don't think its realistic or historic.
  20. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Sailor Malan: Oh yes,and in the Sexton that 88mm is actually the famous 25 pounder gun howitzer, a very good piece of field artillery. It it not to be confused with any other gun of the same calibre, if you expect it to live long!!!<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> I was just saying that the M7B1 is better because it has a machine gun for local defense. I like the M7 Priest and think its better then the Sexton.
  21. Hey, I checked out the Grid Overlay Terrain and I think its gamey and just stupid. You as the commander of your units is supposed to decide the best position for your armor or support vehicles where they will be protected from the enemy. I guess some people are just to lazy to use the LOS tool or want every advantage they can get. I use the diffrent views and move commads to find a good hull down position for my armored units. This grid overlay just ruins the feel for Combat Mission. I'll be asking people i play against when doing a PBEM battle if they are using this Grid overlay. This is my opion on Grid Overlay Terrian.
  22. Hello, I've played a few quick battles and let the AI pick my units and it picked the British units and it gave me two Sextons. They did pretty good until german infantry charged my Sextons and knocked them out because they didn't have a .30 cal or .50 cal machine gun for local defense. I enjoyed the Sextons 88mm main gun but i think if i was picking my units i'd go with the M7 Priest because it has a machine gun for local defense and a 105 mm main gun.
  23. Hey, I was thinking if anyone is looking for a good book to read while waiting for the 1.03 patch then The Road to Arnhem, A Screaming Eagle in Holland by Donald R. Burgett is a excellent book and you can learn alot about Airborne units in Operation Market Garden.
