  1. I was just stating my opinion of the article not the opinion of the person who held the article. And just so I do not sound snobbish I own every console system on the market except the XBOX. Just giving my opinion.
  2. Cast Iron, Join CMMC2 it has everything you just asked for.
  3. Hey folks, I will start with what I always say, join one of the large operational games. Anyhow at the level CM games occur it is unrealistic to go to the operational level and really unrealistic to go to the strategic level. Moreover the focus of CM is to play out a tactical engagement. Steve many times has stated that trying to do to much will cause crap to be produced. BFC does not like to produce crap. So the game must stay focused to be good. Would you prefer CM games play like a bastardized sudden strike with a horrible and outdated TacAI and have a crappy operational layer or would you like the best damn tactical simulator out there? Also Steve has also stated they talked to a couple of folks about another layer interface for CM games but every solution so far has led to them releasing some of their source code which they are unwilling to do for obvious reasons. Now I understand that want, but I also understand the reality of the situation. I loved Panzer General also. But CM games are not like that and it is unrealistic to try to make them. Finally I think BFC will try and make operations better and more complete but I doubt we will ever see "campaign" play because a.) It would hurt the CM game b.) BFC does not want to hurt the CM game. Finally DO A SEARCH!!! (notice smiley and sarcasm) Really there are a lot of threads on this and the CMBO forum that BFC makes some informative comments on the issue.
  4. Some sources are based on testing done either during the war, by the Germans, or in testing situations less than adequate or some combination of the above. CM uses math and physics to apply their tables and not strict test data not done by them. Also that is why I mentioned to contact Rexford directly, while he may not have written about it trust me when I say he knows the answer.
  5. There are many sources where you can get this. Probably your best bet though is to find the user on this forum called Rexford and see if his email is in his profile. He is a reknowned (and published) ballistics expert and will be able to provide you anything you need. Also the Jentz books will have some info but how exact is up in the air. A good read none the less. You can also try http://www.achtungpanzer.com/ Some others will arrive shortly with more info I am sure.
  6. Rob let me show you a distinct difference between the real world and the PENG thread. Real World: Hey guys anyone here want a good friendly game of CMBO or CMBB or even ParCheesy (hmmm Cheesy). Peng Thread: Yo, you twitty basitiches, muster up some of that which the rest of us call testosterone and act like you got a pair. Now load the darndit game before me squire (a hamster) decides to eviscerate your mothers uncle from Canada with a Bren on a Tripod who is acting as a sharpshooter...uh sniper...no I mean sharpshooter...oh forget it and just sod off you daft GIT! Man I miss that place
  7. I agree it was a decent interview in the sense that the interviewer seemed like he had to do it. Oh well.
  8. Yep too bad we educate ourselves huh! Ugh children (even if he is 23 he is still a child). Regardless why bother. Matt lock her up! [ November 06, 2002, 10:36 PM: Message edited by: Priest ]
  9. I think you already "got" it. It doesn't make sense to any of us and that is the point.
  10. Screenshots? Using a custom interface mod? And btw it does not seem that way on my game.
  11. Laxx It cannot be done. At least not on the fly per say. Lets use an example: GHOST RECON In Ghost Recon you can play GHOST RECON or Desert Siege or Island Thunder or just plain old GHOST RECON. Now to play Desert Siege or Island Thunder you need those disks but also the core GHOST RECON software installed. Now basically each pack incorporates new weapons and terrain into the game. Basically mimicing to some extent what you are asking here. Now the current CM engine does not work like that. Dan does a model and then gives it to Charles who then spends a significant time puting that into the source code .exe itself. This means that to add vehicles it would not only be way too time consuming but also would not be an addon but a whole new CMBB executable. Now a patch to a small extent does this also but let me explain the difference. We will use GHOST RECON again. I own GHOST RECON and ISLAND THUNDER. One friend owns GHOST RECON AND DESERT SIEGE and my other three friends I play with only have GHOST RECON. Now without any exe swapping or anything we can play GHOST RECON provided we all have the same FREE patch. BFC would have to dedicate so much time to what you propose that they would have to charge for it and also make it big and widespread enough with enough new vehicles (there aren't that many missing)to justify being able to sell it (these guys have morales remember). Now I have CMBB with the Maus and my friend does not. We both have patch 1.01 but guess what, we cannot play each other. The EXE's are different and will not work with each other. The community that BFC worked so hard (along with all of us) to create gets somewhat splintered. And I am probably missing some technical stuff (actually I know I am) but that is the basics of it. So other than BFC saying it is not going to happen, it is also not feasible, not good business, and due to the few vehicles missing (some by engine limitations like the M3 Grant that could never be added regardless) not even realistic. Chalk this one up to reality.
  12. Used properly the Tiger is a MONSTER. Ambushed or used improperly the Tiger is easily defeated due to its slow turret and such. CMBO just hit it right and realistic.
  13. I will be this civil one this time (I think it is my turn). CM games are not about gore and blood. They are not here to sensationalize violence and gore for gores sake. At the level at which CM games take place blood is not really a factor and its inclusion would be purely "wallpaper" and somewhat disrespectful. As far as all the members of a squad shown, well actually personally I am against this, the scale does not work right. But others agree with you. We will see in the engine re-write.
  14. Patches cannot add vehicles, they can only add the correct models and textures for vehicles already in the game that are now sharing the same model (like the certain Panzer IV models). Add vehicles would require massive coding work into the already existing structure that is not doable in a patch. CMII the new engine they will be writing next should alleviate this issue to some extent and allow more vehicles per game to be added and less time to incorporate each into the game. Hopefully this translates into more vehicles, each with seperate 3D Models for each type.
  15. Now now no spreading rumours (Matt) about people you do not even know (Matt) and that are totally unfounded (Matt). I mean come (Matt) on how do we know what certain people (Matt) like to do with there time (Matt). What is wierd (Matt) for some is (Matt) perfectly fine for others. Geez folks (Matt) some decorum (Matt) Please!
  16. Hmm you found what most believed. Also do not get peeved when this gets moved to the General Forum.
  17. Here is a reproduction of this arguement using a different subject. Person 1: They sky needs to be red. Person 2: But it is Blue and it is going to stay Blue for the forseeable future. Person 1: But I want it to be Red, it should be Red because Blue is flawed. Person 2: How is Blue flawed, I mean it is a nice color, nothing inherently wrong with it. Plus you cannot change it so why bother. Person 1: Because I want it Red. Person 2: You cannot have it Red it is Blue, it is reality, it is the way it is. It is fact. Person: But I want Red. The arguement above is the exact same thing we are seeing here taken a bit to the extreme. BFC has already levied a decision on this, personally I agree with them but to each there own. So how about those Bren Tripods and SturmTigers. (oh and Julia!)
  18. Sorry folks not going to happen. As BFC has stated numerous times, things such as the AI and the points system will be static so that everyone is playing the same game. This is not Madden 2003 or NeverWinter Nights, this is a game striving to be an accurate simulation of tactical WWII engagements. What you are asking for would cause more confusion ans a heck of a lot more of a headache than BFC is willing to endure (and I do not want to endure the endless innane threads it would produce ) So I would not really worry about it, because just like Julia Roberts is not going to show up on your doorstep, you are not going to be able to modify the AI in CM games. And after all the research and experience the BFC folks have, why would you?
  19. Actually I almost want to change me vote to the Sentinal, I prefer the 17lber version though. Also the Avenger was a sweet looking Tank Destroyer.
  20. So this is the beginning of the Renegade Legion saga. (rare reference anyone get it?)
  21. Out of all of WWII I am going to go with the Pershing.
  22. Allow me to drudge up some ol CMBO knowledge. Charles and Steve and Matt and I think Dan all commented at one point or another each that their research led them to a few things. 1.) Smoke grenades by and large were used as a marking device more than a combat device. 2.) The same also is true for WP. No admittedly this may not hold true in other theatres but I will stand by BFC's research on this one. As far as StarShells go there are a couple of issues. One is I am not sure there is a legitimate reason that is based on history and useage. The main reason for their absence is that their is not dynamic lighting in the current engine (the re-write I believe will have it) and that prevents the proper implementation of StarShells. And lastly CMBO is a completed product, there will be no more patches. Later.
  23. Hmmmm My experience so far is quite different. I ran rampant through an infantry line firing away with some T-34s last game. Of course there was six of them against one platoon but I always believe in concentration of firepower along a narrow band. And so far it seems I have had a unique experience of having to do little more than I had to do in CMBO to play CMBB. The only added work I have seen so far is the Cover Arc command. And it is worth the extra effort. Just my thoughts.
