  1. Not shouting as much as trying to differentiate the ranting part.
  2. So far you have used swear language and now are throwing around ethnic/age stereotyping! WOW YOU ARE SO RIGHT! I AM SORRY OH SUPERIOR ONE! LOL! Anyhow, good you tried something that should have a chance of working. And it didn't, well thats how the ball bounces. Lets ask the pertinent question here, what are you trying to accomplish with this thread. Are you trying to find people to validate your whining? Are you trying to find out HEY YOU ARE RIGHT KV I's ARE TOTALLY GAMEY IN SMALL GAMES AND BFC SHOULD BAN THEM AND WE SHOULD FLOG THOSE WHO HAVE USED THEM IN THE PAST! ? I am not sure, or are you just doing your impression of a 2 year old? So just what is it? BTW the word b*tchfest really doesn't help your case. Now you can do a couple of things: 1.) Play Pre-gens 2.) Play with house rules (which is just sad in this case as not game exploit is being taken advantage of) 3.) Play another game. 4.) Plan better. 5.) Get better at playing the game. 6.) Change opponents 7.) AND THIS IS THE BIG ONE, you said you like "historical" battles (yet won't play pre-gens which is funny) so act historically, as in if the position is unteneable the retreat and leave. So basically you are ranting, which is poor food for the forum. You are ranting about something the greater majority thinks is a non-factor. And lastly it could easily be your opponent ranting about "THAT JERK WHO BOUGHT THE TWO 150mm GUNS IN THE DIRECT FIRE MODE AND KILLED ALL MY INFANTRY". Notice how he is not doing that, now is that because he is more mature or that he planned accordingly for the upcoming battle? Sorry I see nothing wrong with your situation, and there are tons of options for you to persue, and before you jump and say I am a KV lover or something, I have yet to use a single KV I in CMBB and the only reason I have used a KV II is that is was in a pre-gen scenario. I normally use the T-34 when I use tanks. That is just the opinion of a mid 20 American newbie though [ February 27, 2003, 04:34 PM: Message edited by: Priest ]
  3. Hahahaaha newbie! Right, sure if being since the Beta demo is a newbie then why not. So you do not want to play pre-gens, okay whatever, sounds like an excuse to not allow your own "gamey" purchases if you want to go down that road. As far as armour qoutes and all that, yeah I know, the KV I is a tough beast. In fact I could go and consult all these lovely books on the subject or any of the nice websites that I at time frequent with regards to tank construction, history, and technology. Now I obviously overestimated your mental prowess. I had assumed that you understood the killing the "bad guy" (moving to simple terms here for you) was not the only way to win. Five to One ratio means that you will be able to manuever your armour to areas in which he cannot cover, it means that you have more flexibility and if I am not mistaken since the KV I is not equipped with subspace transporter/teleporter technology it cannot be everywhere at once. Now you have five panzers and smoke shells, movement should not be an issue at least from cover to cover. Not to mention that the ATR could provide covering fire and keep the KV I buttoned. So you can reduce the visibility two fold, you have more tactical flexibility and this should allow to strip (here is the key so listen good) a lot of the infantry cover away. Once you thin that out you can pressure the KV I from the flanks with the Panzers (kill or not you can make your opponent think) you can manuever with more freedom your infantry. Movement and feints become key as you move in and fade from all sides. The KV I's turret adjusting back and forth. Now maybe your opponent moves the KV I to break it out, super now you have more tactical space un which to operate, mission accomplished. The goal is not to kill the KV I but to dictate the sitaution in which the engagement takes place within. This may or may not result in the death of the KV I but if you are successful should result in a victory at some level, whether or not the KV I is dead or not is irrelavent. Now you say "I WOULD LIKE TO SEE YOU DO THAT" and to that I would say, maybe I could. I am no Uber Player and I do not claim to be one. I do extremely well in certain types of battles (CMMC) and fare well in most others. Few people could do this easily, Fionn comes to mind. But therein lies the challenge, and also the beauty of the CM games. There is no easy way, just like in history. There is no extra Vespian gas to be mined to get the Panzer Power UP, no nuclear upgrade to the 150mm guns. And there is certainly no reason to cry " BUT IF THEY USE THE TANK WITH ALL THE ARMOUR I CANNOT KILL IT BOO HOO BECAUSE IT DOESN'T FIT IN WITH HOW I WANT THE GAME TO GO OR MY NEW MASTER PLAN. I WANT TO CLAIM I WANT HISTORICAL GAMES BUT AT THE SAME TIME BALANCED BECAUSE THE RUSSIANS AND GERMANS ALWAYS HAD BALANCED BATTLES. I MEAN OF COURSE NO KV I WENT WHERE THERE WERE NO 88mm GUNS BECAUSE THE RUSSIANS WOULDN'T DO THAT. IT IS NOT LIKE THE GERMANS WERE EVER PRESSURED TO ACTUALLY KILL ONE WHEN NOT ON TOTAL AND COMPLETE EQUAL SETTING!" If you would a more "balanced" setting try here. http://www.gamelists.net/command-and-conquer/ I hear the nuclear blaster towers are keen but perfectly balanced with the sub atomic tanks. So lets review, understand that CM games require a higher level of thinking and that sometimes you have to think "outside the PowerGamer" box to actually be successful. The KV I can be killed, and yes it might be hard, and it might not be possible by someone of your skill level (not an insult as I freely admitted I may not be able to do it myself) but that is not a problem with the historical accuracy of the game nor the historical accuracy of the situation (you had guns that were probably more rare in that situation). This is a problem with either the time and thought you are willing to commit to the endeavour or the need for more practice and excerise with regards to situations such as these. Blaming your opponents, blaming the options and situations, and closing your mind to all of the offered solutions simply sounds like you cannot take losing, especially when it seems this is a fatal hole in your skillset with regards to CM games. Losing teaches you more than winning, but is normally not a reason to rant on a forum.
  4. So let me get this straight, you are loaded up to kill some infantry and then pissed because someone shows up with a tank? You have 5 blinkin Panzers to his 1 KV1. HELLO! Sorry if this comes off wrong but that is just sad. You like many other people who complain about complete non-issues do so because your grand "scheme" has not worked. Basically you have the most unrealistic of the two unit choices, POWER PLAYED to the max it seems to kill infantry. I mean comon you complain because someone buys a KVI you bring to uber infantry bang bang guns that have already been described as rare and you complain about the other guy????? Get over it already, you lost, to most likely a better player not his/her psuedo gamey unit choice.
  5. So are they going to release an IS-3 model? I KID...I KID!!!!! On a serious note, I do not drink so whoever gets JuJu a beer get me a Coca Cola. And hey drink up I will be the driver tonight.
  6. Shhh! Kwazy is readin, be very very quiet. If we work together I am sure we can cut a day out of the development of the CMII engine just by being quiet. Ok well that is never going to happen but still it was an idea. (mutters to himself) Yeah right Grogs being quiet! What was I thinking!!!!
  7. My guess is that the difference is thousands of dollars and the company's chance at success. Just a guess though.
  8. Ugh! First off stop saying that this is not how this is done or was done blah blah without backing it up with sources, Andreas just showed you how to do it. (Andreas we are agreeing again ) Second while an opinion is fine, there is still right and wrong and while it is perfectly valid to say "Ah I do not like (insert noun here)" it is not okay to then spout out all kinds of reasons that are beyond the scope of the situation or outside of the intended parameters or expectations set. That is not rationale. So far you have stated nothing of value other than your opinion which apparently is based on absolutely nothing (which I suppose is fine for an opinion but an unsupported opinion that is not constructive is not reason to create a thread on the forum). Me thinks you are trying to get some attention and rile some folks. I also think that you are either a Grog-lite or Poser Grog, with just enough information to form poor unsupported opinions on things such as combat on the Eastern Front. Personally I am a Grog Padawan. I am still learning and as thus recognize that I should listen more and speak less at times. That is when you get free knowledge and that is always a good thing. To practice find a Rexford thread and just read. At the end thank Rexford for the info. See real easy. As far as your ideas in this thread, I would not apologize for your opinion (again nothing wrong with them) but I would apologize for your poor judgement thinking this was meat for the forum or that it was in any way true at this time (since you have no facts to support it). Just my opinion.
  9. Actually it should have been done already. Sounds to me like the program is not to modular. I mean why release it when you could have made it better, obviously all it took was someone with hindsight to figure that out. Now I am no programmer but I am sure that the estimate of one day is way overblown, I figure two lines of code and 5 minutes and whammo new solution! (Sarcasm intended)
  10. Knowledge or not, without seeing the structure of the source code he has no idea how long it would take. And in essence calling Steve a liar.
  11. Agree. I would guess two weeks max. Here is a clarification to my explanation, I added (generates turn) texts: </font>
  12. Well! I had no idea that Battlefront feels insulted about this thread. And I had no idea that we are whiners. I thought that we are just making suggestions to an inperfect game... Nope, not poor at all. Your understanding of how the game functions is poor. The game engine has absolutely no way of handling this. Amateures with know knowledge of the code can denny this as much as they want, but their opinion has absolutely zero value. We looked into fixing this issue for CMBO and found it to be too much work to undo, then looked at it again for CMBB and estimated once again that the 2-3 months of code rewriting was simply not worth the effort. Therefore, after an honest attempt to fix this problem (and we have always admitted it is a problem) we decided it was in everybody's best interest to spend the time on other more important issues. Either that or we are purposefully ignoring a significant problem that has an easy solution simply I can have the joy of answering yet another winey post about this issue. Use a couple of those graycells and strain to figure out which is the most likely case. </font>
  13. Figured as much but just in case you added a line of something or other somewhere I wanted it to be covered. To Willhammer: Totally agree. [ February 05, 2003, 07:19 PM: Message edited by: Priest ]
  14. RW why did you have to mention the auto-sneak thing which still has never affected me but hey. Just an FYI to all the non-programmers out there. I supervise a group of engineers, three of which are very very competent (read: write programs for fortune 500 companies) programmers. I showed them CMBO and then told them that two guys did this with one doing the majority of the code work. The result, Charles will be the name of all three of their first sons. Wargame of the Year, Turn based Strategy Game of the Year, and it goes on and on. Do I have gripes about the CM games? A couple. Most were fixed in CMBB and the ones that were not were never intended to be in the first place. You see BFC does a wonderful job setting expectations. This is a lost art in the gaming community. Since my expectations have been set correctly the few minor gripes I have are not really relevant because they were never intended to be fixed, yet. And they are minor btw. Oh well I think that Steve summed it up best, we just do not know, and I am more than willing to take BFC's word for it.
  15. That was kinda a blanket statement CMplayer care to expand upon it, I would be interested in hearing what you basis is for this. Just like to hear your POV.
  16. I do not mind the PBEM system at all, I think it compliments the faster pace TCP/IP games and produces a more chess like product. Then again if they did change it I doubt I would mind as long as it worked. So put me on the proverbial fence I guess. Also, what is next RedWolf, you will want the best WWII tactical wargame and extreme realism, oh wait you already have that. Me thinks you may be a bit nitpicking.
  17. We did? I thought it was a discussion on whether we should BUMP or not?
  18. So lets see, I have seen this before. Okay so first half of us jump on the moron (I was nice in the last thread no need here). The other half make jokes (funny ones at that) and there is the one person who tries to answer and another who begs off the dogs from attacks the moron mentioned above. (and yes I know 1/2 plus 1/2 plus 2 equals more than a whole but blah blah) Then the sun rises, the birds sing, and a very grungy MaddMatt sleepily moves the mouse to awaken his machine. He is less than one coffee in and in a foul mood (which is similiar but worse than his normal mood) and while quietly playing semi-diplomat he tells this guy to knock it off all the while checking for clues as to see if this is a repeat offender. If it is he triumphantly announces it and we all laugh at whoever it is this time once again for old times sake and wonder what in the hell is wrong with the moron who bothers to do this. If he is not a repeat offender we give the guy a chance, most likely he fails and is banned by Monday by which time he mentions something about the inclusion of atrocities and something racist just to complete the circle. Even if this moron manages to straighten up then they will probably be gone in a week or two whenver the next W@rCr@ft 3 expansion or whatever comes out. So until then this little idiot gets a really pathetic thing to enjoy while leading a ranting circle jerk religiously around his PC and/or MAC.
  19. Ugh! One more time, blood and guts adds zero, absolutely nothing to the simulation of real world tactics, all it does do is cheapen the sacrifice made by those who actually fought and died in that war. Why is this a hard concept to grasp is beyond me.
  20. Have the first set (AWESOME!) and will be adding these to my collection as soon as the girlfriend signs off !!!!
