  1. Is there some way to get the Steep contour(5m),that is available in the editor, into Quick Battles? I love those steep contour maps but have to make them myself...
  2. Off topic but Tiger, what video card are you using? what resolution? those pics are gorgeous! Oh yeah and the skins are lovely too
  3. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Buckeye: There is no way to do this as of now. Lots of folks have it on their wish list. Not clear if BTS will add it as a feature or not. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> It probably is possible using some third party file joiner, similiar to the ones for joining AVI's or mpegs together.... Hopefully some clever cove will figure it out oneday
  4. BTS wrote 05-23-2000: Doug is pretty much right on the money there. Both players do their Orders Phase at the same time. There will be an optional timer with different time settings. When both players have hit GO!, or have timed out, then the turn is crunched and the Action Phase begins. What we are not sure about yet is how to handle the playback in terms of time. There are two ways and we will see which one works the best in practice: 1. Have a seperate timer for watching the playback. For example, a 1 minute timer would only allow you to watch the thing once through, 2 minutes two times or once through and another minute for replays. You get the idea. 2. No special timer but it just chews up your turn timer. So if you are set up for 5 minute turns and you replay the movie 5 times, you won't have any time left to issue orders. The benefits and drawbacks of each should be pretty obvious. Personally, I think #1 is better simply because it avoids the potential "whhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaa, I forgot and replayed too many times and now I don't have any orders. No fair! Start over" kind of problem We will most likely have a different Timer for the Setup Phase since this should require more time to do up right. Steve -------------------------------------------- As long as there is an option to turn OFF all timers this will be great In a LAN setting timers are not so necessary as you can hound your opponent from across the room if he is taking too long! You got to have user configurable options Playing on my home LAN is what I am really hanging out for...
  5. 1. TCP/IP 2. Full Battle Replays 3. Tanks to hold crucial targets better 4. .50 cal adjust 5. Amunition carriers for the Hummel and the like(perhaps very expensive?)
  6. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Mikeydz: To allow the ability to edit the unit attributes opens up the pandoras box to hackers. If someone feels that the data or values are wrong, then present the documentation backing up thier view and submit it to BTS for review. If BTS allowed the modification of unit data, might as well throw out multiplayer for me because cheating would run rampant. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Now that this game is attracting frequent "mainstream" attention and sales are skyrocketing,it is only a matter of time before the cheats and hacks start showing up on the net....it is enevitable as the game becomes popular(unknown "cult" games don't really attract hackers but popular "game of the moment" ones?....... just look at all the most successful big games...all hacked to buggery...enjoy it while it is still pure... Sad but true....
  7. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Pacestick: Sounds awfully like the way NZ defence planners think, you in the government Kiwijoe? <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Hey we don't even have Armor any more: they have retired our only "tanks"...a handful of Scorpions.... But back to the original question IMHO no more limits need be put in place unless you have options like Dittohead suggested, perhaps the checkbox... It is ,after all,a GAME not a simulation
  8. Seems to be a theme with New Caledonia alright: my friend ,who pre-ordered his 7 weeks ago just got it Saturday and it had New Caledonia on it.... But I was lucky, mine took only 11 days from order and had New Zealand printed on the label twice!! Glad you have finally got it Nikib
  9. any fellow NZers looking to kick an inexperienced wargamers ass? email me
  10. well I just received my copy of CM yesterday and my first Quick Battle ,one of my little M8's took out a Jagdpanther with a side on shot from about 60 metres! I now have a soft spot for M8's
  11. Oh happy day! My copy arrived today,11 days after I ordered it,it was posted 2 days after ordering so only 9 days from door to door.... mine says New Zealand on the package, maybe thats why it got here so quick Goodbye RealLifeā„¢!
  12. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by gashford: A major enhancement I would like to be able to see would be to watch the whole engagement through after the game has finished. The 60 second piece meal portaions are great but it would be fantastic to be able to watch everything through again afterwards, it would also help you understand what tactics work and what don't.... Thanks<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Hopefully this is high on the list of additions as it has been heavily requested and is really needed, especially for PBEM games
  13. I have a similiar prob with flame guys: if you get them to target say... a building they will keep flaming until ALL 6 of their "shots" are gone, which takes exactly one minute(turn) is there a way(if not then there needs to be one programmed)to tell units to "fire once then hold"? Very frustrating to watch my flame unit keep pouring flame onto an already burning building.......
  14. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by frag: Imagine seeing all you soldier in motion like Rainbow Six (I can't stop seeing my bazooka guys aiming a Tiger while is partner hit gently on his helmet to let him know that the bazzoka is loaded and ready to fire)<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> thats beautiful *sniff*
  15. BTS obviously have a problem with an illiterate packager or else their ordering software needs sorting out,in any case you TYPE the country in the field...there is no drop window....so what are the chances of not one but TWO people typing New Caledonia instead of New Zealand?......preeeety slim I reckon....hmmmm By the way my order hasn't shown up yet but I guess it's quite a trip when it goes to New Caledonia first....
  16. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by jpinard: One shot rings out from the sharpshooter, and I see the DRIVER of the truck has been nailed in the head... with a single bullet. The truck curves out of control and makes a 140 degree turn away from their destination - no is driving. Everyone piles out of the driverless truck, and in 5 minutes have been mowed to bits by the machinegunners. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Wouldn't it be cool if BTS modeled a chance for high speed vehicles, that lose their driver,to have a crash that resulted in a catastrophic(or even just standard)explosion!?
  17. yes you can,I have had a PBEM game of "Chance Encounter" going for about a month now! Looks like it is going to be a draw
  18. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Madmatt: Don't wait, play now... Madmatt <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Hmmmm....what are you saying here? 1)Don't wait, start that email game now because the patch isn't going to be out by the time you have finished anyway?.....or 2)Start that game because 1.03 WILL be compatible with existing games?..... I'm betting on 1...
  19. Thats a damn fine idea! I'm a bit surprised someone hasn't done it already: post a pic and description of all the units in the game... would make a great website addition For those of us who don't have the full version yet I would also like to see some screenshots of setup pages for quick battles etc... How bout it someone? a game screenshot of the units available for purchase to you?
  20. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by TZEENCH: Yep- Looking forward to many a LAN party with cm<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> I too am looking forward to this but it'll probably be a small party I will definately be in for TCP/IP games
  21. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Pillar: Why do some American tanks have a 76mm gun? I mean, how much difference and ONE millimeter really make?<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Quite a bit of difference really Check out this excellent article on the M4A1(76)W at CMHQ,it explains the differences for you http://combathq.thegamers.net/articles/usmedtanks/m4a1.asp
  22. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by *Captain Foobar*: ... Hell, I bet the Allied command would have liked Europe to have a grid on it, but they just had to deal with that scary hazy horizon, and that's what I wanna do to... <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> I hear that Cap'n Also we now have a tool that CAN give one side an unfair advantage in PBEM ...you'll just never know ..."how is he getting all those perfect hull-downs?...he must be gridded!..."
  23. I don't have the full version but I still don't think I will be downloading the grid as the cons outweigh the pros(for me anyway) It does seem gamey and will detract from the all important "feel" But it is cool hats off to its creator
