Steve, Yes so far I haven't had one lock-up so far. I do notice some differences between playing the game on my laptop vs. the desktop. I played one scenario where there was lots of fog. In the laptop is hardly showed. Actually i didnt even realize the scenerio was supposed to have fog, until i played it on the desktop. AS for my laptop. I am running win98SE, havent formatted it once since i got it, and i havent updated any drivers on it. Im not too familiar with laptops, since i just got this one recently so i dont know what else could be the cause of your problems. All the fixes that I know of which might work for a desktop system, dont have any validity in a laptop.

I have an Dell Inspiron 7500 600 mhz chip 256 ram the 3d rage mobility chip and 13 gig Hard drive. Game runs fine in windows 98. However I also have a 750 mhz desktop, that has dual boot between Win2k, and win 98 I find that the problem you are describing is common in windows 2000....if that is what you are using, the you are SOL. In windows 9X based os'es it should run fine if you have the hardware...

Just a note for those interested in the Lord of the Rings movie, dirkd1976 posted a link up top, to www.darkhorizons.com. If you go to the trailer section they have a pretty cool little clip of the LOR movie. Correct me if im wrong, but isnt that elijah wood in the black armour?

I was sitting in the theatre waiting for the X-Men movie (not bad), and there was this preview that made me wish I was watching that movie. It started with a bunch of Jap fighter/bombers flying through a valley where american kids are playing outside, then we see a shot of about 30 planes in tight formation...it looke amazing. Then we have a voiceover of Roosevelts address to the congress after the attack on peal harbour, and the scene shows the actual attack.... Just that preview made me all tingly...wow..i hope that wasnt "the best scenes" type of preview, cause that short bit made me totally forget where i was. Its not out until May 2001 (in time for CM-the pacific theatre?), but wow, it looked amazing. Anyone else seen it?

Actually you will see me more probably. You see, there is this horrible place i have to go to each morning and stay there till about 5 pm in the afternoon. This place doesnt allow me to play Combat mission, but it does have access to the Internet, so that I can post here in lieu of playing the game. Of course it isnt the best of trades, but cest la vie, and they give me some money so I guess its not that bad. Also I probably want to try single player first before I start PBEM, because i dont want to embarrass myself right away. But anyways if any of you guys in Toronto, or otherwise have ICQ and want to set up a PBEM sometime in the very near future, i can be found at 8217706 in the afternoon. This is wierd. Ive got a geforce 32 meg card a 19 inch KDS avitron running in 1152 res on the desktop, and I have never gotten a higher option available in the game. Would i have to resize desktop to go to 1280 and above? one would think with my sys config there should be no problem in achieving the higher resolutions.

I got home from work yesterday, after fighting through the normal sh!t load of traffic of the don valley parkway in Toronto. I live in a condo, so i have one of those tiny mail boxes, that must have been designed for someone who gets one letter a day. Anyways I opened it up, and to my pleasure I see a large brown thick envelope wedged inside the mail box on top of some junk mail (ie Bills). "Combat Mission!!!" I yell with euphoria, earning several "another drug addict" looks from the other mail room patrons. I thrust my hand into the mail box, and pull on the envelope. It doesn't budge. My smile slightly falters, and I take a deep breadth, relax, and try again. It stays wedged inside the mailbox. Now Im becomming annoyed. I contemplate just putting all my weight into the next pull, but images of broken CD's race through my head. Ok, I decide i need some tools for this job. I go upstairs grab some scissors and rush back down. I tenderly cut the edges off the envelope with my new found "jaws of life". The tender package is now visible to my sight. I gingerly remove it from its ugly brown cocoon. I press it against my chest, hunch over, and run back to the elevator. By now the other residents have taken out their cell phones, and fingers hover over the 911 pre-program. But then the psycho with the scissors and the euphoric expression on his face disappears into the elevator. Needless to say, no one followed him in. My Mission has begun.

My transformation is almost complete, my copy of CM is on the way, and then I shall shed this cloak of humanity and join the ranks of that mysterious species known as Stationarious Wargamus. My manual shall be read from cover to cover. My Cd shall be cleaned nightly. My dreams shall consist of pitched battles. The ESC fix doesnt work to well for me. It will make things ok in the menu screens, but the in game status bar, and the command menu for each unit are still all wierd. The flags and pictures also seem to flash. Like the guy above, win 98 works fine, (but i hate it)

Bill, About my first post..do you have any input as to what I have left to do before the scenerio posts a win? Do I have to destroy all those German trucks hanging out outside of Chambois?? One would think the victory would have already been recorded, since it is doubful those truck drivers will tangle with a bunch of Shermans and PIAT squads.

PS Spoil The way i got through the mission is quite differet than what most of you have posted. I also have 4 shermans left, and bulk of infantry. I moved 3 tanks with all my carriers and infantry and AT gun to the left into those woods right next to the German Exit point. From there I made some pop shots on the German columns as they moved from Chambois. The Germans moved down into that wheat field area to engage the force in the woods. Meanwhile I had been casting a bunch of smokes at that ridge line down below that kind of overlooks that area. As the German columns moved to the left to try and engage my forces there, I moved about 6 Shermans throught smoke, and into the side of the advancing german armour....It was a blood bath. Of course I got a lot of shaken infantry in those woods by the exit area, but they were more than enough for all the bailed crew members. Also after depositing those troops in the woods, i moved my carriers around the forest right by the exit point and left them there in a line in the scattered trees overlooking the road. As the German half tracks that got out of the earlier mentioned killzones appeared, they got wasted from about 5 of those attached machine guns.... The Artillery took care of the german infantry hiding out in the houses in the bottom part of Chambois.

Hey, I have been playing my Friends CM waiting for mine to ship. I am currently playing this campaign as the POLES. I basically stopped all german units from exiting, and have destroyed bulk of the german force. I hold all the victory flags, and am now working my way through Chambois taking out the run-away crew members, and some holed up infantry, as well as destroying a bunch of trucks. It seems like I have already won, but it still shows my victory as 84% and the germans as 16%. it is about turn 15 of the 25. Do i have to totally eliminate all hostile forces, or is there something else I am missing. Thanks!

I will have to try that! Thats exactly what happens to me... also the ingame text is all funked up as well. I must be a small tweak somewhere in CM, cause i have never had anything like this in another game. thanks

Turret, Are you going to be having any new campaigns for people who want to get in on the action. Im kinda green, so I wont have the calibre of all these guys, but its sounds like great fun! Maybe have a NewBie version, (probably too much work) P.s. Well thanks for pointing out the error of my words... I mis-stated that, but I get somewhat emotional on that topic, as a family member was a corporal in one of those surrendered and disposed of forces. Of course with this game, we can always create a What If scenario...like what if the Poles were able to dole out some revenge. Once again thanks.

killmore -- Polish must be present too. Why? Polish army in the east (under soviet control) was larger then the one in the west. --- Yeah, but the Russians also fought the Poles, I remember the infamous murder of Polish officers in the woods at Katin, by Russian soldiers. Also on the sceneriao page Wild Bill Wilder says that there may be a Italian module as an addon or in a seperate game release

also just a little English language tip when you want to find out about something, You would say "HOW do i do this." not "WHO do i do this" WHO means "what person". Just a friendly tip, since I was kind of confused when i read the post the first time. Good Luck!

With popularity comes all different types of vices. Of course the people who have been here from the "beginning" may have little patience for new players, or fellows who have read the review, and want to find out what the game is really like. This isn't the traditional wargame, I would say that it is the "Half-Life" of wargames. In that I mean it will change the genre for sure. Since it isn't the traditional wargame, it will attract players that are not traditional wargamers. These may be viewed as "twitch types" etc. but isn't this what the wargamer community has been after? Wasn't the dream to create a game that will not only satisfy the HIGH demands of die-hard wargamers (grognards) but more importantly attract all those who think "BORING" when they see anything resembling hexes. Of course there is going to be a culture clash of sorts. Heck Im basically a newborn to this forum, but this is one of THE best forums I have read. Most forums degenerate into stupid mud-slinging by day 4. Veterans, have patience with the newcomers...like Seanachai mentioned, dont be rude or condescending. The new players attracted to this game will most likley coming from those forums I mentioned before. They aren't used to searching, or being reprimanded. I realize Cassino is Italian per se. But I remember my grandfather mention the large polish effort vs. German troops inside. Anyways, can't wait for your additions! AS to the Italian Module...would that be in the form of an expansion pack?
