  1. It has to be turn based. How difficult would it be in real-time?? A batallion sized engagment for instance, all played in real time. Crazy.. I like the turn based aspect too. It gives you plenty of time to pick your moves, to think ahead etc etc. Also, something I've been thinking about - I can't see how the units will work in the new engine. Take the 3-man graphic representation that we currently have - IMHO I can't see this working - it would look like Panzer Elite..

  2. Sorry to start (yet another) new thread reference this, but I haven't found anything relevant yet.

What do you think we can expect to see from this new engine rewrite? I can't honestly imagine it. Not something this scale, modelled in true 3d. It would be massive, and surely virtually unplayable? The thing I really like about the current games is the 60 seconds on, and however long you want to plot your move. It will be interesting to see how you overcome this problem, when you have miles of terrain, and 3d scale units. I just hope it doesn;t turn into a close combat/Blitzkrieg hybrid :(

  3. It's a tough situation to be in - glad I wasn't really there! I guess you have to try and make the most of your command advantages - You've got morale and speed on your side. I'd keep my units hidden for as long as possible and try ambush tactics in your case. You're never gonna win against KV's - not with 50mm guns. I like to engulf their tanks with men - basically I 'volunteer' a platoon to ambush a tank - I split them at the last minute and *sometimes* whilst one group of men is getting it thick and fast, the other group can run up behind and hit a weak spot. More often that not, their crew panics before I actually damage the tank, and they'll bail out, but it works for me.

  4. Hi, rest assured this isn't an issue with the patch, more a problem with CDV's copy protection

What I do, is insert the cd, exit the setup screen, and run from my own icon on the desktop. Runs first time every time that way. If I try and run from the install/play screen I get the same error you do.

I should add, if you try and run it from the setup screen, it will always ask you for the cd. You have to restart the machine to get round it! Just use the icon on your desktop.

Buy CMAK. Get someone to do a 'Normandy Mod' for it. You're set, except for King Tigers and probably Jagdpanthers.

If you look at one of the CMAK screenshots you will see a jagdpanther. *I think* :D </font>
  6. Operation Flashpoint is an old fav, but I'm waiting for Flash2 to come out now. There's too many things wrong with the original but it's still a good blast from time to time.

I like the Medal of Honour series, and am especially looking forward to the Pacific game.

GTA - Vice City is excellent stress relief. Thoroughly recommended. Looks and plays good on the pc too.

Day of Defeat - pretty cool online WWII stuff.

I'm waiting for Half-Life 2. This looks awesome.

  7. This is a tad dis-concerting. I uninstalled CMBB in it's entirety. That's all the mods I had installed too. I reinstalled CMBB and it ran fine no problem. I installed all the patches in order, and it works fine no problems. So I wonder what was causing the 'minimise' error before? It's not the prefs file, as I deleted it. I'm stumped. Still, FWIW it's working fine now, just without the mods.. Could it be a mod, like the interface or something?

When I installed the 1.03 patch first time round it asked me to restart the machine. What's all that about?

  8. Hello mate, to be honest, a 256mb ram upgrade will help to a degree, but the primary concern should be the processor and motherboard. You're using an old system with a 166fsb, which is limiting the performance of the rest of the machine. A graphics card upgrade will only heighten the problems you're experiencing and not resolve them as it will be wanting more bandwidth than it can have. I would recommend (if at all practical??) a motherboard and cpu/memory upgrade first. Even the cheapest new kit out there will be better than what you are using at present.
