  1. I've made series of tests (at 1.01) and even if tank located so close to the house wall, that is shown partially inside the building, infantry refused to throw grenades and charges. While do this when outside the building.

    Bug or feature?

Interesting. Do you think they might be trying to self-preserve or something? If infantry are that close to an AFV would they actually let off a HE grenade so close? My results were about 10-15m or so from the tank. I saw a number of Canadian grenades flying through the air. But ironically, the chap with the PIAT refused to fire.

  2. And thanks to you too, pcelt.

I haven't ordered the CW module. Not sure I will, either. But I promise that if/when I eventually do buy it, it'll be the first thing I do, even before actually playing the module.

Arggghhhh! How come you haven't got it? I know it seems like a few extra units and different missions but it really has been improved, in my opinion anyway. It reminds me when the NATO module was released for SF with all the bells and whistles. That offered a huge improvement over the base game too. If it's a financial reason I think maybe we should buy it for you? I'll chip in some paypal cash. You deserve it.

  3. What an amazing scenario - epic map and masses of units. Glorious! This is what CM is all about. It runs like a dream too, whatever you guys have done to optimize it, keep it up, it rocks.

I've only played 2 scenarios with the CW module so far, but loving every minute. It feels so much better than the base module. I'm guessing the speed optimizations have really helped. Looking forward to getting my teeth into the campaigns, but will try and play out the scenarios in the order they are presented first.

  4. There are no major changes to LOS with the upcoming v1.10, so let's not read too much into one instance in one video :D However, there was a LOF (Line of Fire) bug that was fixed that might be what you're noticing. The bug caused Soldiers to sometimes aim too low in some circumstances that involved close in partial blocking terrain. Since fire is traced round by round having the aim point too low meant pumping rounds into something the Soldier should have been able to aim over.

Ah interesting. So will that fix the low-firing HMG's for instance, where upon setting them up behind some low hedge, or in a foxhole, (where they have LOS) will fire at the ground, or hedge instead of firing over it? I had one such instance last night where the HMG was firing into the sandbags of the foxhole where I had set it up, rather than over them.

  5. I've played a few QB's of varying sizes now. I've been the attacker in most situations and have cherry-picked my own force. I allow the AI to auto select its force but I generally specify force 'mix' and leave it at that. I've noticed that every battle thus far has been extremely armour centric. In my last battle which was a medium sized assault the AI chose 5 tanks/assault guns and a couple of LMG teams with a FO team, and some off-map artillery. Not very helpful defending a town. This was supposed to be a 'mixed' selection. But it doesn't seem particularly mixed to me? Is this working as intended?

  6. I've played this through a few times now. It's quite a challenge even when you know what to expect because the American advance is quite rapid and can take either flank depending on the ai plan. The last replay I kept most of my infantry well behind the lines - only the HMG teams and a couple of scouts forward past the bridge to alert me of any trouble. I advanced my panthers up the road, and kept them just behind the bridge and covered by hedgerows on either side. I advanced two armoured cars past the bridge and followed the road to an opening in the hedge. There I used cover arcs to keep them facing potential lines of advance. I set a couple of artillery plans going and lay in wait.

It resulted in a tactical victory for me by the time limit. I lost a couple of halftracks and had damage to two panthers, but I inflicted a lot of damage. My panthers were reasonably well protected by the hedgerows and I could fire through them - the Americans could not in the most part. I knocked out all their armour with relative ease although I had much more trouble with infantry in the wooded areas. In the end I think If I recall I inflicted about 120 casualties and had 4 shermans destroyed. I also advanced my armoured vehicles to the victory location at the end of the map and bypassed the AT gun and the infantry in that area.

  7. One of my Axis troopers fired a Panzerfaust at a Sherman as it was about to cross a stone bridge over a river, the shot hit the side of the tank causing the crew to panic and drive the tank off the bridge and into the river, best CMBN moment yet :)

Wowsers, I've never seen that before? Sure it wasn't a bug or something. Can tanks fall off bridges? What happened to the tank?
