  1. I found one of the greatest draws of CM was the absurdity of the detail. I loved going through all the different countries TO&E and seeing what they really used in action.

I think Syria with minimal story would be my vote. I like to learn what they would use, how they would organize themselves, etc. I actually found the original CM educational because it gave me an excuse to open a book once and awhile to read about events and equipment.

Which is what makes it worth playing. ;) </font>
  3. I don't think they could ever develop a system that will be perfect, especially for something like Combat Mission where there are many more variables than something like Total War series.

That being said, I hope it at least lets us crush much lesser forces. In TW you would occasionally get a fluke battle where it was very obvious you'd win, but you ended up losing your best general to a pack of peasants...

  4. HQ's seem to embrace fanaticism much more than whole squads. I've seen 1 guy, with just a rifle, take a barrage of rifle fire at close range and continue to fight. It's probably just sheer luck that it's worked out that way, where I've seen HQ's get it more than squads.

It's REALLY obvious when it happens, however. Your men throw out a ton of ammo and barely react to incoming fire. They don't necessarily act on their own heroicly, they just absorb the elements almost invincibly.

  5. What happens when you lose transportation equipment? Does your speed get averaged?

For example: You have a convoy of half tracks with infantry inside of them. A 81mm strike comes down on them and they lose 3 of the 12 half tracks they started with.

You'd have 3 squads moving at 1.0 speed, and 9 moving at 5.8 speed.

    3 + 5.8(9) = 55.2 / 12 = 4.6 speed total?

  6. I do remember them saying they were almost positive of an early first quarter release. I'm a little baffled that they came across problems enough to delay it past that. I would love to have a real progress report, as this is one of my most anticipated games of 2006.
