  1. Will the real LimShady please stand up? [This message has been edited by vcents (edited 02-13-2001).]

  3. I slave away on a Level 2 help desk, supporting the assorted morons and debris of today's technological world. The last thing I want to do is type. I hate it. With a passion. If I was coding, that would be different, but instead I'm forced to document the idiotic ramblings of sophmoric users. Lurking is fun...typing, bad. ------------------ The only thing worse than fighting with allies is fighting without them. - Churchill
  4. Found this article on the online version of my paper. I was pretty impressed (and a little proud) to find out that someone from my hometown made the voyage. http://www.journalstar.com/local?story_id=2436&past= [This message has been edited by vcents (edited 01-12-2001).]
  5. When I read about this on CNN's website, they made it sound like a bunch of senile old men were sailing off to their deaths in a ship that wouldn't even make it out of the Med, much less the harbor. I work with two formal Navy men and when I showed them the article they both said that they would sail with them anyday, in any weather, on any craft they wanted to sail. Guess this speaks volumes on the stuff our veterans are made of. ------------------ The only thing worse than fighting with allies is fighting without them. - Churchill
  6. I finished this book around the middle of December. I was so impressed by it that I bought it for my father for Christmas. Another angle to this book is that is dispells a lot of the rumors that were associated with the flag raising. Get this book..it is a great read. ------------------ The only thing worse than fighting with allies is fighting without them. - Churchill [This message has been edited by vcents (edited 01-09-2001).]
  7. Wow...am I special or what. These are not shortcuts..I am double clicking on the executible itself...I'm not using any desktop icons or shortcuts. I did install the TCP/IP patch directly to the CMBO directory. Oh well...once the patch comes out (for real) this will be a moot point. Just would like to try and find out why this is happening. ------------------ The only thing worse than fighting with allies is fighting without them. - Churchill
  8. Which I have done...then it works great..clicking on the cm public beta exe launches the correct version of the patch. My question is why does 1.05 run when I click on either cm exe or cm public beta exe (with both in the CMBO directory), but when I move the cm exe to another location (a temp folder) and have run just the cm public beta exe in the CMBO directory the proper beta versions runs. In a nutshell: if both exe's are in the directory, it runs 1.05. If just the cm public beta exe is in the directory by itself, it runs the proper version. ------------------ The only thing worse than fighting with allies is fighting without them. - Churchill [This message has been edited by vcents (edited 12-20-2000).]
  9. Nope...not clicking on the icon on the desktop..double-clicking on the exe in Windows Exploder..errr..Explorer. ------------------ The only thing worse than fighting with allies is fighting without them. - Churchill
  10. Ok...hopefully someone can answer my question. Did a total reinstall of CM because I wanted to start with a fresh palette to apply the mods I had collected. Anyway, reinstalled, patched and applied the TCP/IP patch. Double clicked on the exe, into ran, went to splash screen and lo and behold, it reported 1.04. Like an idiot, forgot to patch to 1.05 before the IP patch. So, I installed the 1.05 patch and reapplied the TCP/IP patch...but no matter which exe I chose (either CM or CM Public Beta) it would always show 1.05. I figure "Screw it..the release version of the patch will be out soon...I can wait." Well, the new public beta is out, and I installed it..same result...showed 1.05. I decided to test something..cut the CM executable out, pasted in a temp folder and then double clicked on the CM Public Beta exe...whammo...showed the new build. If I paste the CM exe back in and launch the Public Beta exe, it reports 1.05 Why is this happening? Is this all related to me installing the first IP patch when CM was only upgraded to 1.04? Any ideas gratefully accepted. ------------------ The only thing worse than fighting with allies is fighting without them. - Churchill [This message has been edited by vcents (edited 12-20-2000).] [This message has been edited by vcents (edited 12-20-2000).]
  11. I live in Nebraska, and as I look out my window we currently have about 8 inches of snow on the ground, with a wind chill of -30. I believe that this is pretty close to the conditions these men faced. I shudder when I think of what these men went through. I went outside for five minutes and I nearly froze. These guys were on the front lines, with no winter gear, exposed to the elements, and still won the battle. Find a veteran and thank him today. I know I am. ------------------ The only thing worse than fighting with allies is fighting without them. - Churchill

  13. I was very impressed by this special...what made it enjoyable was the first person accounts relayed. If it would have just been Tom Hanks droning on, I don't think it would have had the impact that it had...it also differed greatly from the sanitized films we see on the History Channel. PS - How 'bout Tom's nappy beard? Hey Tom...mix in a trim every now and then. ------------------ The only thing worse than fighting with allies is fighting without them. - Churchill
  14. Well, if we can keep this from turning into a partisan "Your guy sucks..." thread then I'm all for discussing the election and what is happening. But if this dwindles into a big flaming fiasco, then lock it up.
  15. Being from the heart of Cornhusker country (Lincoln), I'm willing to take my lumps now. But remember Sooner fans...there's a little game coming up called the Big 12 Championship. Enjoy the victory while you can....you'll be seeing us again. ------------------ The only thing worse than fighting with allies is fighting without them. - Churchill
  16. The sure fire cure all: Start drinking again....at least that worked for me in college. If you've gotten to old to do that (like me), drink lots of water (need to rehydrate), take some vitamins and get something to eat. Try not to chunder.
  17. Sunflower seeds and a tall glass of iced tea when the wife is awake...when she asleep, switch to Skoal Straight Long Cut instead of the seeds. 18. [puffing..wheezing..gasping for a cold one] Just past Tuetonicc on the way up...started yelling about some buffalo carrying Alex Guiness. Got my pointy stick and everything. Buddy..can ya spare a dopplebock for this tired soldier?? [This message has been edited by vcents (edited 09-05-2000).]
  19. Now is the time on Sprockets where we dance! TOUCH MY MONKEY!!!!
  20. I don't see wargames dying per se, but evolving into a gruesome hybrid of history and twitch games. I can see it now...Microsquish presents Sgt Rock!! A real time, first person shooter where you get to play the roughest toughest meanist hombre this side of the Rhine! Collect weapons, power ups and gold peices while battling through waves of evil Nazis. Fight the bosses of the Nazi regime, starting with Himmler and ending Hitler and Eva in a all out battle at the Eagles Nest. Drive nuclear powered Sherman tanks, fire 1+e02mm mortars, and Gatling flamethrowers all while receiving close air support from B-17's and B-24's!!! It's as close to real WW2 combat as you can get!!!
  21. You've played too much CM when... You lie in bed thinking how a couple rounds of 81mm would silence the neighbor's barking dogs. Then you change that to a Panzerfaust for a couple of rounds up the neighbor's juxsy! Quote Colin <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>You have the CM manual beside your bed<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Ummmmm.....
  22. I wonder how much of a disk cache one would need to get this function to work... [This message has been edited by vcents (edited 08-15-2000).]
  23. Excellent...I am a huge fan of Ambrose and Band of Brothers was the first book of his that I bought..from then on I was hooked. BoB was a quick read..easily consumed in a couple of days. I also suggest Pegasus Bridge for a good kill-some-time-at-the-airport book. DDay is excellent and all proceeds go towards the DDay museum in New Orleans. If you haven't read any of Ambrose's books, get on it and plunk down some bucks (or pounds, or francs, etc.) ------------------ The only thing worse than fighting with allies is fighting without them. - Churchill [This message has been edited by vcents (edited 08-14-2000).]
