  1. I have an HP Pavilion with a Trident video chipset. It's an Athlon 4 950 mhz with 20 gig HD, 256 RAM and DVD-rom. Less than $1000, and it runs CM with many mods installed without a hiccup. Smoke, fog, all look as they should. It will also play CC 2&5, SP:WAW, Airborne Assault with no problems. You don't have to drop $2000 to get a laptop that will play CM. Bill
  2. I have an HP Pavilion 950 Athlon 4, 256 RAM, and my heavily modded copy of CM runs fine on it, except for some mouse funkiness. As mentioned in another user's thread, my Memorex cordless optical mouse has problems in the scenario selection window and in the QB creator. My laptop's mouse pad works fine, and the Memorex works great ingame, so I can live with the minor hassles. Bill
  3. Thanks Manx, Now, one more question- Where can one get the Pont du Hoc mod?? Thanks again, Bill
  4. Here's the URL for QuickRes,which lets you change to higher resolution when a game runs and then changes it back when you exit the game. www.berend.com/qres.html [This message has been edited by Bill Mitchell (edited 08-23-2000).]
  5. Due to the fact that your processor speed would handicap some of the newer cards, you would be best going with a VooDoo 3 or a TNT2 Ultra. I prefer the Nvidia cards(TNT2),but a lot of folks like the Voodoo cards. Be sure to determine if you have an AGP slot or not. If not,get a PCI card. I assume that your video in on the motherboard-this will have to be disabled(usually through the BIOS) before you install a video card. 6. On the Dell newsgroup,a number of folks are complaining about the fan noise-to the point of sending the systems back. Dell is well aware of the problem, and rumor is that new systems have a quieter fan,so you may be able to call support and have them send you a new fan. Bill
  7. Daily Radar has a column that has positive comments about CM. While not a review,it does show that CM is starting to get the attention it deserves. Daily Radar CM Column
  8. It doesn't appear that you can run CM at a higher res than your desktop is set at. The only way to run it at the higher res is to change your desktop res. Apparently, the CL Anihilator 2 (GeForce 2) allows you to set shortcuts that will raise your desktop res when an application is run. I don't have CLA2 yet,but this sounds like an interesting feature. Bill
  9. Wild Bill, I did have one Sherman immobilized in the scattered trees east of the village. The crew stayed with her, though,so I think it just became stuck. That same tank became bogged early in the battle, but I was able to back it out and try a different route. Bill
  10. ***WARNING--SPOILER INFO***** Wild Bill, I played that very scenario yesterday and enjoyed it immensely. I played as the Amis, and moved my troops forward for 4 or 5 turns before I made contact with the Germans in the woods east of the small village. Fortunately,I had a bazooka perfectly positioned to get a shot at the side of the tank accompanying the infantry. About this time,my reserves appeared, and I moved a company and a tank down the village towards the east to reinforce the troops fighting in the woods. This second Sherman took out the second German tank when it appeared. I was feeling pretty good at about this time, having jumped the Gerries and and taken out all three of their vehicles. I moved more troops into the woods north of the town, where I found lots of Germans entrenched pretty securely. They pretty well ravaged my infantry until I could get my Arti spotters in position to bring down the rain. Then,it was a few turns until the Germans had enough and surrendered. I took substantial infantry losses, however. That was my favorite scenario so far,and I'll probably play it again today to see if I can do a little better. It certainly provided a tension not seen in some of the other scenarios. Bill [This message has been edited by Bill Mitchell (edited 06-27-2000).]
  11. Apparently,CM will only run at the same resolution as your desktop or lower. You can raise your desktop resolution, delete the prefs file, and restart the game, and it will let you choose the new, higher res. But,if you lower your desktop res back down, then CM will also drop back down to that res. Bill
  12. Thanks, but I was hoping I could keep running my desktop at 1024x768 and run CM at a higher res,but apparently that's not possible. Bill
  13. I run my PC at 1024x768. Is there a way to make CM run at a higher resolution?? When I first started the game, the small box came up,but it only lets me choose 1024x768 or lower resolutions. Bill
