1. And this is what their wargame newsletter says (this is just in)
quote:
Combat Mission has arrived, and first impressions are good. It takes some getting used to, but the feel is right and the look is compelling. I like the unpredictability of battles; they are unpredictable in the right sort of ways, with results falling it seems within the realm of probability but with enough variation to keep things interesting. Our reviewer is plugging away at it now.

More later... Griffin @ work - place ------------------ "+" is just the beginning. 2. Thanks BTS for the update first. I have a little question. Do you ship overseas (outside US & Canada) via airmail? If so, I am expecting it within 2 weeks. I think I should have asked for express delivery just like Picton does. Griffin. ------------------ "+" is just the beginning. 3. Talk about "mobile wargamming" here. I made a mistake buying CM 99/00 for Mac and I am not sure if I should make another for The Sims. Still waiting.... If there is TCP/IP gaming within suitable timezone, I am thinking about that Nokia mobile phone PC Card... Griffin -- too excited to sleep. ------------------ "+" is just the beginning. 4. I have not got the game but from Ray's screenshot, I read about this Ops. Double excitement. I have placed 2 different scenarioes about this encounter during the day of Steel Panthers. Really can't wait.... Griffin excited. ------------------ "+" is just the beginning. Expect to see "GriffinCheng76", "GriffinCheng(105)" or "GriffinChengA3E8" more should Forum problems occur again
 5. Okay, CD does not weight but CDROM/DVD Rom drive does! Yeap, carrying my Powerbook for 40 minutes walk everyday actually makes my arms a little stronger. 6. Sorry if this has been asked before. Could anyone tell me if the CM CD is required in the cdrom while playing? I don't want to carry extra wegiht around with my Powerbook. BTW. what is the installation size(s) for CM (PC and Mac). Appearently the reviewer at GamesDomain misses this one entirely. Thanks. Griffin @ lunch. ------------------ "+" is just the beginning. 7. Hello Picton, I am a fellow Hong Kong guy who loves CM. Since your profile does not have any email address, I have difficulties in reaching you. I am glad to see another fellow wargamer living close. Anyway, if you are interested in playing PBEM or even TCP/IP some other day, please let me know. Unfortunately, my copies are not here yet. Looking forward to hearing from ya. Griffin @ work - place. ------------------ "+" is just the beginning. 8. One for PC and one for Mac. BTW, isn't it a hybrid CD? If not, I am confused. Griffin @ work -- place. ------------------ "+" is just the beginning. Expect to see "GriffinCheng76", "GriffinCheng(105)" or "GriffinChengA3E8" more should Forum problems occur again
 9. Picton!!! Does your copy arrive via courier? If so, mine should be here today. I got a call earlier today by a courier that they are sendig a box to my home but I tell them to send it to my office instead. Let's hope for the best. BTW, you are a local Hong Kong, right? Wanna have a pbem against a newbie, drop me an email. Like to see another local wargamer. Griffin @ work - place ------------------ "+" is just the beginning. 10.
quote:
nd later after I have actually gotten to play, I will give ya some more for your morning coffee. I just feel bad that not everyone can get this at the same time. But it was well woth the 2 year wait.

Well, I have got used to it since I am not living in The Sacred Land of Computer Gaming . Normally, local dealers get them 2 to 6 weeks later than US release. European release is better, we normally get them earlier than US guys but most of the time, they import them in 1 or 2 batches only. So, if you miss it, sorry. Still waiting... 11. Ray, the page is now working but you must have scaled the screenshots to some funny resolution that I cannot view the text! Mine is not there and I am dying to see what scenario and operations included. Seeing and hearing more about the real CM drives me nuts. 12. IMHO, treat yourself a real text editor like ViM, available from vim.org, and MacZip. It works wonder even with dreaded Hotmail.com. God speed. 13. BTS and all other lucky people. I think I must not view these threads or I must go nuts since I have a gut feeling that CM would arrive in late June / early July and I can only pick up boxes during weekends so....I must improse a number of self-control while waiting for my CM.... I "hate" you people. Griffin @ work - place ------------------ "+" is just the beginning. 14. Gone in deep coma this weekend and miss the entire link (Sorry to all my PBEM fellows!) From what I have read from CGO newsletters to GoneGold.com that they are all very positive! D/L Deus Ex demo on weekend, took 2 hours via ADSL while having an afternoon nap Fire it up and find it looks great on 3dfx chips but sucks in D3D modes Still stuck in stealth training part - definitely harder than Theif series and MGS... FYI, Shogun is on my desk last Sat but I have no time to try it. BTW, my younger brother immediately jumps into it (he is a hugh Koei buff anyway) and finds it totally great! Rookie: show him the PotDs and mods made by CCJ and others, just to impress hime okay? So much for my OT. Griffin @ work...place. ------------------ "+" is just the beginning. 15. On HEAT effect on "lesser-hard-targets": M1TP2 models this beautifully when you fire a APFSDS round on an AFV like BMP2, the target just sit dead even you are certain that you had been accurate. My best bet was always fire a HEAT round at first sight so it wouldn't play dead and fires an ATGM back. On muzzule brake: is it the same reason why T34/85 did not have one? Without muzzule brake, would the AFV need longer turret? Griffin @ work ------------------ "+" is just the beginning. 16. The editor/webmaster of GoneGold site plays a lot and a large variety of games. I am trying to say is, if you have seen the latest 3D engines like Homeworld, Quake 3 Arena, KISS 2, Vampire, MDK 2, Deus Ex, Shogun, etc. You will be stunned by how far the 3D graphics engines has gone nowadays. I am saying playing CM is not playing for eye-candies and sfx, there is not doubt the way CM engine, as is, gives us a lot of immersion and provide a very satisfying experience and also it is truely one of its own kind. 17. Here is a quote from GoneGold.com (sorry for extracting directly from it):
quote:
Combat Mission Here's a war game that is more on the level of a "Close Combat" type of game than a "General Series" type game. Either way you explain it, MAJOR FUN should be in the explanation. The game has recently been shipped out to those who pre-ordered it. Do yourself a favor and download the Gold Demo to see how impressive this game really is. The graphics are nothing stunning, but are certainly serviceable, however it's the level of detail in gameplay that is going to impress you the most. This is going on my Must Have list for sure...

Definitely he likes it! Griffin @ home ------------------ "+" is just the beginning. 18. Also CGO's Wargaming newsletter claims they will post a review soon. I think my money is better spent on CGO's review, and stay tuned. 19. Yep, it happens to my single V2 card. I think it is a problem with V2 card in general. I have to disable the V2 driver and force CM to use the GeForce card. 20. I have the older edition encyclopedia book back in 1995, I think it is the day of Steel Panthers. It was out of publish till 1999 and it is out of stock again. 21. I think I am giving a ladde a pass. Reasons: 1. I have benn bz with pbem already. Sorry Mark, I still haven't got time for ya. But, rest assure I will beat you this time! 2. I have joined CMMC and expect to be even more bz! 3. I am not good enough for the ladder. Griffin @ lunch ------------------ "+" is just the beginning. 22. Agreed. Check out tom's hardware site on this issue. The latest detonator driver supports fsaa on Geforce/DDR/GTS2. I am using it right now but only I find fsaa is not so pronounced @ 1024, even if I turn on my Geforce fsaa to the max. Ideas? Griffin @ home ------------------ "+" is just the beginning. 25.
quote:
In Hong Kong, a betrayed wife is legally allowed to kill her adulterous husband, but may only do so with her bare hands. (the husband's lover, on the other hand, may be killed in any manner desired.)

Nope, murder is outlawed Hong Kong, no matter what. Okay, these are what betrayed wives do in Hong Kong (no urban legend -- they are all real-life from the news) 1. Throws both of her kids, all less than 10 yrs old, down 10th floor and followed by own herself afterwards. 2. Hack each other to death using kitchen knives. 3. Cuts her husband's genital oragan when he is sound asleep. The investigators finds the bloody siccors but they are told that the other piece of evidence has been flushed down the toilet. Married CM player beware! Think twice when your wives get mad on your addiction of CM! Did I sound too serious? Griffin after lunch. ------------------ "+" is just the beginning.
