  1. I can only answer from what I got from the games Jane's Longbow 1 & 2.

    Answer: Yes and no.

(N.B. Technical data edited based on info from here:

    http://www.periscopeone.com/demo/weapons/missrock/antitank/w0003226.html

    )

    1. AH-64D can carry 2 versions of Hellfire, One is essentially laser guided from the TADS mentioned. And the other is MWR-guided version. I am not sure if they can be mixed since Apache can carry max 16 Hellfire missiles

    2. Radar guided Hellfire can be fired in a mode called "Lock On After Launch" LOAL mode where the launching platform can release missiles when staying hidden behind obstacles, like a hill, between the intended target area. However, it is required to paint a specific target for the missile as terminal guidance. In the case of Longbow Apache, only the radar mast, mounted on the top of the blades, is needed to be exposed. The advantage is, it is very difficult for opfor the notice the small radar mast.

    Hope it helps.

I always heard they were fire and forget MMW radar. If the radar can't lock on it can't be used , right?

  2. Oh, I think Karch is talking about VRAM, memory used by the ATI video chip. I am afraid that kinda is not upgradable for notebooks.

  4. Slappy,

That is the problem with PC Office, is it Office 2K you are running, that is a resource hog.

You know, I have a good PB but since it has a ATI MobileRage-128 with only 8MB VRAM, I cannot display most hi-res mod nor any grid terrian.

That is another thing BTS has considered when not going to fancy eye candies.

Glad to see your spirits is still up.

I am checking out the latest MoBo based on AMD760 chipset. Any MoBo recommended? I have been using Asus all the time.

    BTW, how about a game?

    From Amazon.co.uk

Battle of the Bulge Through the Lens

    Philip M. Vorwald

    Hardcover - 296 pages ( 1 December, 2000)

    After the Battle; ISBN: 1870067231

    Reviews

    Synopsis

In this work, The author retraces the fields of the battle in Belgium, Luxembourg and Germany which were once bitterly contested killing grounds in the struggle to halt Hitler's final gambit in the West. The battle touched dozens of towns and villages throughout the Ardennes and each is depicted through the photographer's lens in 1944-45 and exactly 50 years later. Vorwald manages to precisely match the wartime photographs with present-day comparisons, and has striven in many cases to achieve a "weather match". Presented in an easy-to-use alphabetical format, the precise location where each picture was taken is indicated on accompanying sketch maps, with instructions on how to get there, giving this publication a secondary role as a useful guide book to historic sites of the Battle of the Bulge.

Just when I think I should never put money into ordering books any more...

    Here is another one:

    Dieppe Through the Lens

Hugh G. Henry Jr, Jean Paul Pallud

    Hardcover - 64 pages (31 December, 1993)

    After the Battle; ISBN: 0900913762

    Reviews

    Synopsis

The 14th Canadian Army Tank Regiment was one of the first Canadian armoured regiments to be formed and was also the first to be committed to battle. The action of every one of the regiment's tanks that landed at Dieppe is described in detail by Hugh G. Henry Jr who has spent several years on his research and interviewed all the regiment's survivors. Every Churchill tank and armoured car left behind on the beach is pictured, selected from photographic coverage of the time. In addition, annotated aerial photographs by Jean Paul Pallud pinpoint and identify the position of every vehicle and full crew lists are given for each. The result is a uniquely illustrated "after-action" report of Canada's worst military defeat.

  9. Hey BTS,

Personally I don't care about 32-bit color, my soreing eyes cannot tell the difference, they all look good to me.

Remeber the old time when people upgrade the computer with each major release of Wing Comamnder series (at least up to WC3)? I don't think BTS right now is Origin 7 years ago.

Hence I think BTS should focus on making CM2 a hit rather than handling requests on CM Mk.2

  10. Matt,

Sorry but if it is already in the queue.

    "Gun Damage Problem" revisited

I tried "August Bank Holiday v.2" last week and several of my StuG IV suffered "Gun Hit, Gun Damage". Their status bars all showed "Gun Damaged". However:

    1. Ammo counter still remained. IIRC, piror to 1.1, ammo counter was gone when an AFV's gun was dyfunctional.

    2. Order menu still had all targeting commands: "Target", "Targe Next" and "Smoke". Of course, these commands had no effect.

Thank you for your kind attention.

  12. Hey, don't you see that we have successfully rendered (pun intended) this GB (GameBoy?) guy out of the picture? biggrin.gifcool.gifbiggrin.gif

Thomm, I did not take Computer Graphics courses during my university studies. Shame. I think I can vagely understand what you are saying.

As for SyW, they don't need as much view options and aspects as CMBO so SyW may play more interesting eye candies.

Back to the topic: the question is not what current GeFroce GPU (according to Tom's Hardware, actually it is more powerful than current Pentium 3 CPU) can do, but rather how many CM players can benefit from it and whether the effort would be well deserved.

  13. But most of the time, combats occur >800m does not fair very well for Panthers and actually German panzers in general. If you do a little search here, you will see that sometimes little Staurt are very leathal to these Big Cats.

There are a number of good tank slug fests and I would recommend in no particular order

    August Bank Holiday

    Magnificant Seven

    Elsdorf - The Encounter

    South of Sword

But some of them are really large.

  15. Urgh, you make me have the urge to re-install this good olddies again! I cannot remember if SyW has any shadows after all.

Correct me if I am wrong. Some 3d titles trick you for getting better frame rates by : 1) blurring far objects and reducing their number of polygons or 2) using "fog" -- render the objects if only they are within view. I remember another title called "Shadow Company" employs the latter technics and they produce some amazing effects. Oh another one : "Jane's F-15" with its infmaous "breathing terrian". biggrin.gif I don't know SyW uses any "tricks".

Anyway, both are not good for CM, either.

  16. Thomm,

From my understand, yes, there is one. GeForce 2GTS uses Transformation and Lighting (TnL) which "accelerates" the effect (light map) you mention. However, it can only handle 1 single light source. Check out Tom's Hardware (www.tomshardware.coom) and Gefore GTS guide in Sharky's Extreme site (www.sharkyextreme.com).

The only game I know uses TnL is MDK2. This title uses OpenGL.

BTW, how many CMaries have this piece of equipment right now? For me, I don't.

I know some people's PC (pun intended) cannot even show fog effect!

IIRC, DirectX 8.0 has TnL included in their API.

Count me one as the one not complaining the graphics. And I find HL:CS better FPS than Q3A (but is Q3A really a GAME?)

    A) Brighten or darken the whole polygon uniformly.

    B) Calculate brigthness at the polygon vertices and smooth shade the polygon.

    C) Superimpose a light map over the polygon texture.

Now I do not know if today's 3D cards implement all these capabilities, especially ©.
