  1. Frankly Canuck, No sweat! My memory serves me quite well and normally I don't have to bookmark most of sites I reguarlly visit (including pron sites) wink.gif

    Playing against AI teaches you how to use each of the weapon modelled in CMBO, but playing against real living human teaches you real tactics and how to put these weapons together (could be some time gamey).

    Nevermind, see ya around then.

    Also, there is a CM reading book list but I am sorry I don't have the link right now.

    4. Start to play at least one PBEM or live TCP/IP game.

    5. Spend your non-gaming time (i.e. the rest of your time) here in the CM Forums.

    6. Do not forget to kiss your life goodbye.

    Griffin.

    P.S. Would you like a game of PBEM?

  3. I agree keeping Firefly alive is a bigger problem. Yep they have a big gun which can deal with almost all German panzers, faster turret but most of the time they are the first pirority target. The Firefly armor is nothing greater than other Sherman. I have many killed by "cheap" Panzer IVs at ranges over 800m. Worse, their HE round count is low and they are really suspectable to German organic troops.

  5. Crockett,

    Like you, I am still learning how to play the game well.

    From my little painful experience, there is not "super" or "uber" tanks in CMBO. All tanks have their own weakness and strength. German tanks are fun and cool but they are not invulunerable. They are just a little harder to kill, but well, when luck comes into play, well, it sure makes you mad. Proper tactics are need to deal with them or use them on the countary.

    Some advices (may be poor):

    1. Keep them moving all the time;

    2. Your infantry are your tanks' best friends, keep them close;

    3. Keep your tanks together;

    4. Concentration of fire make good sucker punch, espeically when they come in from diffferent angles to your target;

    5. When in doubt, reverse into cover;

    6. Hull down when firing;

    7. Straight and quiet road is the most dangerous path. So is the urban area;

    8. In general, German tanks have upper hands at range over 600m;

    9. One Tiger VIE worths combatwise more than 2 Panzer IVHs;

    10. Watch out for those M5 Straut and M8 Greyhound, they are deadier "animal-killers" than M18 Hellcats;

    11. JadgPanzers in general make very good panzer ambushes.

    12. Tiger VIE is NOT the best German tank in the game.

    I usually refer to http://combat-mission.net/ for armor tactics.

  6. "How about a game of PBEM?" -- This is my line of friendly gesture. smile.gif

    I am not a good player so don't label be me as an "elite" or a "newbie vulture". :P

    Welcome aboard, and see ya around.

  7. To add a gain of salt, many have voice the need for Table of Organization and Equipment (TO&E) chart for CMBO just like Steel Panters and Panthers in the Shadow. It is useful to keep track of the resources and their status.

    In the meantime, turn on the troop base, or enlarge your troops helps. Also, try to use "+" and "-" keys to scroll through the units you have on-board. If the scenario designer is kind enough, you can scroll them in order : "A" HQ first, "B" platoon and the rest of the foot soldiers, then "T" group of supporting elements and finally "V" group of AFVs.

  8. Any you can always get a small network hub which is dirt cheap. I have one and home with the uplink to my ADSL modem.

    For serial connections, you may need 2 modems. Once you connect them to ISP via dial-up networking, you can also play a lan game between two.

  10. You know, Boru, I made silly and may be even stupid mistakes even after over a year of CMBO (including Beta Deamo) pbeming. Ask Scott Adams and just CDIC.

    Play more and ask more, there are many good people out there who are willing to teach you the tactics. Reading war history books help too.

    Good luck and enjoy the game. biggrin.gif

  12. Wait, did I sound "offensive"?

    Sorry, but are you reminding us that we should better channel our energy to something else rather than partispating some self-fulfilling, little "test"? Fine, thank you but I think I must have lost my sense of humor somewhere along this thread. smile.gif

    I really feel flattered when somebody stick the "elite" label on my forehead. Oh, just a little laugh before I get off work.

    BTW, I really enjoy the latest Boru very much.

    See ya around, then.

    My observation is that the "social manners" that the trolls must practise so as not to be labbeled as such are elitist. They preclude most of the casual would-be participitants from the board.

    The motive? Self satisfaction, most probably. Curiosity developed, and I want to satisfy it. But isn't it why we are all here? Maybe in the process of me communicating myself, others will enjoy themselves too.

    A disclaimer - I am in no way writing this in an offensive mood.

  13. First of all, I don't think I am just an average player and don't have a inflated ego.

    My reaction: why the tests after ? Why drop a bomb when everybody is enjoying themselves within the "rule" of this Forum? What is your motive after all?

    Frankly, I won't hesitate to point out the first post you made does not sound "Trolling" now, this is "Taunting". From the other posts of this thread, I don't understand how you draw the conclusions.

    Constructive critisms are always welcomed. Do you realise how many "newbies" here are reading the thread and benefit from them? I don't think many newbie are not trying to show themselves off here and we don't label "newbies" simply as "trolls" so long as they understand and practise proper social manners. If you read about the "dynamic lighting" thread, we have straighten the original poster out so he finally understand the issues he pointed out with detailed techincal (not historial) discussions and everybody was happy about it, and nobody get locked. I am not representing any authorities. Just a note.

  14. Okay, here we go. I am going to skip some basics and so don't ask me the details.

    For each mac, create a profile in the Location Manager, you may want to name it as "Home network",etc. For TCP/IP part, add a new configuration which you connect through "Ethernet". On the IP address setting, fill in the address in format "192.168.0.xxx" where XXX is any value from 0 to 255. Make sure you assign different addresses for different Mac or they would not work! I don't think you need subnet mask on this one. Save the profile and you can just leave the rest of the settings.

    Link them up and there you go.

    Good luck and have fun!

    Griffin.
