Several Ram IIs had their 6 pdrs removed and extra radios installed to serve as armoured OP tanks with British and Canadian forces. I was hoping these would be included, but no such luck. No Panzerbefehlswagen either

Understood. Actually, the operation will begin at the moment the 2nd Rangers have secured a foot-hold on the heights and reinforcements will arrive at the clifftop later. Thus no need to fudge anything in that regard.
I lucked onto an excellent map which shows the location of all the German wire, mines, pillboxes &c in the area, so the map should be a good one.

I'm doing a Pointe du Hoc Operation and my US Army Handbook doesn't have a TO&E for Ranger Battalions.
Anyone got any good info on that? Thanks in advance.

Seven of Nine? Oh, you must mean Ten out of Ten.

In a particular scenario there is a Firefly armed exclusively with HE ammo which can consistently take out a Tiger at 300 yds or so. I've played it so many times it's not a fluke. I'm having trouble getting my head around that one.

My most successful PIAT team ever sprang an ambush against several German armoured vehicles in a small village, expended all its ammo and escaped unharmed. It KO'd one armoured car and scored damaging hits on two Tigers. Out of six or seven rounds fired there were three hits against Tigers (one of which had no effect) and one against the A/C.
I consider this a good test case because the team was never sighted and never fired upon during its sortie.

ummm.... I forget. Big Joe called me Barbara or somethin'...
To rephrase my original question, let's work with some real numbers: Assuming I have one platoon of armour (doesn't matter what nationality or type), how many platoons of infantry should ideally accompany, how many FOOs, how much support?
The resultant force should be capable of both offensive and defensive operations. Some tend towards the ratio of 2:1 armour vs. infantry, while others prefer 1:2.

In the scenario you could "load" the scenario you created as Hill212, save it under a different name, then edit the forces. I think that will work if I understand your problem correctly.
I've been toying with the stock scenarios using that technique without eliminating them.

No Spoilers here.
I played it and enjoyed it immensely, Bill. I played Amis (glorious last stands my specialty). Luck of the dice went against me right from the get-go with some bad shootin' from me and some good shootin' from them, but after that I gave 'em hell and took a boatload of 'em with me. I surrendered to the A/I when my last vehicle with a gun detonated in battle 3. The night fighting in battle 2 was especially wild.
The Germans encountered were a pleasing mix of infantry and armour assets. All in all a well-designed op.
Advice for first-timers: Defence in depth!

I'm not speaking of what's cool and what's not. I'm speaking of what ratio of different kinds of assets make up a good, balanced force capable of fulfilling multiple missions.
(And I happen to like the Hotchkiss, thank you very much
)

I've just started a couple of buy-your-own QBs for PBEM and I'm wondering what others have found to be effective purchases. What ratio of armour to infantry tends to work best? How much arty? What proportion of support units and specialized vehicles?

No, it's not realistic. Neither are Victory flags.
On the other hand, I can hear his C.O. sayin' "Major, I want that hill by 0800 hours and I don't want no excuses!".
I'd say give him the benefit of the doubt.

So what I'm hearing is that your opponent was wise enough to keep reserves and commit them for the knock out blow.
Really, there's no way around the artificial time constraints of a turn-based game.
If it were me, and I was losing (or not winning handily), I'd do the same thing. I'd have to. Should I lose just because there's only a few turns left? I agree it LOOKS gamey, but what option does he have?

I know that the size of the unit bases are based on the size of the unit they are under. I haven't played with it, but could bitmap 2020.bmp be playing a role here? It might be worth a test.

Firefly of A Sqn, 29th Armoured Recce Reg't (The South Alberta Reg't). The Maple Leaf didn't reduce too well, but what the heck. Note the camo'd 17 pdr.

The troop carrying capabilities of the Merkava are somewhat exaggerated and gets used for casualty evacuation more than anything else.

You all seem much busier than me! Two games complete (tactical victories both), and one tiny game abandoned and ceded as a defeat.
I'm just warmin' up for CMMC.
EDIT: Oh, and one other abandoned game as I can't get my file through to any of my opponent's four email addresses!

why surrender??

When there is no chance of me preventing my opponent from gaining a Total Victory, I'm more than happy to surrender.
When it's clear that neither side is capable of any meaningful offensive action and the front will barely move from wherever it is, I'll submit a ceasefire request.
There's no point dragging out a game when either you or your opponent could be playing another...
