Patrick,
I've started to play Any Port After a Storm and have found them to be thoroughly enjoyable. I look forward to your future efforts.

Hi Harv,
I use the Excel version of your very handy database
Chris
p.s. I really appreciate the automatic email updates as well!

An important point of course is that Hughes' book is on naval tactics which are a very different beast. There is no real 'terrain' on the high seas and the attacker is very much favoured over the defender unlike land combat.
Probably the closest analogy would be a pure armour slugfest. Say each side had six tanks of equivalent capability (6 is only chosen arbitrarily) and the terrain favoured long range engagement. If one side commits all 6 tanks versus the other side keeping 1/3 in reserve, the likely outcome will be the locally (in time) superior force defeating the numerically inferior force.

Thanks Pathfinder,
And a Happy Independence Day to you!

Wow,
My own personal thread
Tom excellent news on CM!
Were you also able to avoid the handling fees?
Chris

Our salvation draws nigh!
I received CM in the mail this morning. According to the ship date (June 22), this should have been with the last batch sent out. I hope and prayers are with all my fellow canucks that you will be playing this game over the weekend!

CM has arrived by mail in Toronto.
Please see my thread to this effect for more info.
Chris
Excuse me while I load this baby up

Boris,
Yes I lucked out. No taxes or duty. I sincerely hope you all get it today as well.
It looks like it went out with the last bunch according to the final shipment update of Steve (or was that Charles?). They stated all orders had gone out by the 22nd. That is the ship date indicated on the package. The postmark from Williston is dated the 23rd.
Chris

Woohoo!
Guys,
The mail carrier has just dropped off my copies of Combat Mission. It is in the GTA!
As an added bonus, I was not dinged by the GST or Canada Post handling fee.
There is Hope!
I preordered May 16th 2000
Postmarked June 23rd
A very happy Chris

I've gone so far as to visit my local post office inquiring if they've received anything for me. "Do you have your postal card sir?"
"No, but I'm expecting this important package. Could you check please"
The girl did check for me, bless her soul but alas no CM. She sees a lot of me since I order lots from Chapters.ca.
Retail distribution does have one huge advantage for us canadians though! Games show up here within 2-3 days of their release stateside.
Chris

Well Rob,
I'd love to try it out, but I'm like the countless other canucks who doesn't yet have the game.
So how did you luck out? Make a cross border raid?

Hannibal,
I know! I struggled over this one for a while. I contacted Dept. of National Defense but they had no copies. It was last published over 30 years ago, so it has been out of print for a very long time. No plans for its re-release any time soon.
Therefor my choice was don't purchase and let it become rarer (and more expensive) or bite the bullet and get it while I still can.

Steve, Charles,
You need no further proof than 50microliter's last post than to realize that people are starting to lose it here. I suspect we will be seeing more and more of these cases.
50ul, its okay. these men in white are here to help you

Ferret,
That same thought has been running through my mind. Spelling is important! Well if they went to Cambodia, the Asian pirate CD presses will be busy!

Well I purchased Stacey's official history of the Canadian Army in WW2 (3 volumes) for $290 cdn. I still wish it was in print. Since military history is a hobby anyways, it is not a soley game related purchase.
I also have Nafziger's Orders of Battle on order as well and picked Steel Inferno.
So short answer is yes, I've spent a lot more on books for this game than the game itself.
If it ever arrives (grrrrr) I'll start putting out missions based upon historical engagements.

Buttoned up with the turret facing another direction _really_ puts a dent in your spotting abilities.
Sten<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>
Sten,
In all fairness, I think if I was inside a tank with 20mm shells bouncing off it for 30 seconds, I would hear something. ;p
I agree lack of stickiness is a problem. Although I'm sure in all fairness to Steve and Charles, it is a very difficult thing to get 'right'. A bit too sticky and we would all complain that it doesn't properly defend itself when a more dangerous target arrives.

andy<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>
Maybe you could ask him to post here about when he ordered the game? Some specific questions which could help all of us out are:
1) When did he order the game?
2) When did it ship? (see postmark)
3) What day did it arrive in Toronto?
4) Did the mailman drop it off directly or did he have to go to local post office?
5) Did he have to pay GST + handling fee? and how much did these come to?
Lots of questions I realize, but the answers will help the rest of us out quite a bit in trying to figure out what is going on.
Thanks,
Chris

Nothing here either. This seems like some kind of cruel joke.

As part of 21st Army Group, we Canucks feel like we're in the same boat. So far only one person has reported receiving CM so far. So much for having shorter supply lines!
My sincere wishes on your speedy relief

Looking on the bright side of things however. With all this posting about how CM has not arrived yet, I have achieved Member status much faster than I would have if I had been playing CM for the last week or so.

Combat Mission has now even shown up in New Zealand!
