1. I am currently playing a scenario where I had 2 81mm mortar spotters firing smoke, each one fired for about 30 seconds of the previous turn. At the end of the turn, rounds that had landed but not started smoking all started spewing smoke. I then launched my infantry assault the next turn under a nice protective smoke blanket. Shortly after my infantry got into the open all the smoke disappeared, even though the mortars were firing continuously. It seems that the game registered the rounds that hit near the end of the turn as starting to smoke earlier than they actually should have. This makes it very difficult to launch an assault using 81mm mortars for smoke cover because the smoke just doesn't stay around that long. After a little bit the smoke from the current turns rounds started to appear. Has this been brought up before? If it has, is there a solution in the works?
2. I didn't look close enough at the point values, I just saw all the rarity percentages and made an assumption.
3. I don't want rarity on when I am picking forces for a scenario I am creating, because I want to pick forces that are approximately equal in strength. With rarity turned on it is very difficult to keep track of the 'actual' point value of each side. Is there any way to turn it off? If not, would it be difficult to add that functionality in a patch?
4. Personally, I like the idea of using English voices with appropriate accents for the different countries. I like to know what the men are saying and having the accent at least gives you something of a feel for being German or Russian. It's certainly better than having the German commander yell charge in a John Wayne drawl
5. Nightime meeting engagement in the fog in the middle of winter, everything else random.
6. I had a similar problem, it kept rejecting my name in the 'Name on Card' field. Finally I put my name as it was in my Billing address, even though that was not what is on my card and it was accepted. I checked my credit card statement online and saw the charge from Battlefront.com so I guess everything is ok. For CMBO I don't think they charged the card until the game shipped...I wonder... could it be... nah...
7. This is not a major issue, but I found the ability to minimize CM by hitting the escape key to be very handy and I'm a little bummed that it doesn't work with CMBB. BTS - any reason this feature was taken out?
8. I just went to the Scenario Depot, looks like you are having some SQL problems
9. If the Sherman is firing down from a hill on you the effective armor slope on the Hetzer will be less than 60 degrees, which, combined with the 85% armor quality, explains why your Hetzer got smoked.
10. Thanks for the help guys. I turned off FSAA and the text is normal now. I'll try the other solutions to see if I can keep FSAA on.
11. Just got a brand new system with a 1.4 Ghz Athlon, 512 megs DDR ram and an Asus 8200 Geforce 3 video card. CM runs great but the text that shows the turn numbers, number of men in a squad, etc. seems to be corrupt. I am using Detonator 3 v12.41 drivers from Nvidia. Has anybody seen this before? Any ideas?
12. My question is: When do you envision CM getting to the point where you have a construction set that enables you to make a scenario for any time period during WWII on any front? It seems to me that once you have data for all the different unit types, the next logical step is to put it all together to give the players the ultimate freedom to simulate whatever theatre interests them.
13. Here is my request for a more robust Quick Battle generator in CM2. I would like to see all the ground condition and weather options that are available in the scenario creation utility available for quick battles. I would also like more freedom in selecting the quality of units. One more thing, it would be great if we could use custom maps in quick battles. BTS - any idea if these features will be included?
14. I have taken out numerous tanks with close assaults. I had a company commander unit that single handedly took out a King Tiger.
15. I think the Idea of an optional rarity setting is a good idea. There are a couple of other things that I think would make quick battles more enjoyable. 1) When you are choosing the type of forces, have a "random" option, this would make it so that your opponent would not know what type of force he was going to face, I think it would add to the excitement and realism of the game. 2) Have a choice of "no restriction" which would enable the player to have any mix of armor, infantry etc. that he chooses.
16. The mods you download replace the graphic and sound files that CM uses. So, if you download a mod for a tiger tank you will use that tiger mod in all scenarios that you play, etc.
17. If you are interested in what WWII was like from the perspective of a German infantryman "The Forgotten Soldier" by Guy Sajer is a very good book.
18. I would love to see an option to randomize the force types in quick battles. Instead of selecting combined arms, mechanized etc. youjust select random. That way you have no idea what type of force you will be fighting against, forcing you to plan for all eventualities.
19. It is true that the men that are shown to comprise the squad are not individual troops but that doesn't really address the issue of whether there sould be a visual representation of troops taking casualties. As it is now, you do see the figures "jerk" a bit when a casualty is caused. The only difference between that small movement and bodies flying through the air is one of degree. I'm not really arguing for or against this feature. Combat Mission is the best wargame, computer or non-computer that I have ever played, with or without graphic representations of casualties taken. It would just be one more piece of eye candy to further immerse you in the experience.
20.
quote:
Originally posted by Mirage2k: No, but you can't say that CM would be a better game if it included those things, either. The point is, excessive gore and "flying body parts" don't add anything to the game's purpose, which is simply to immerse the player in the tactical management of WWII. Flying body parts do not enhance this, they are just something to "ooh" and "ah" over. There are several threads on this. -Andrew

Most of the graphics in the game are there to "ooh" and "ah" over. It just seems to me that the people who want this left out feel that way because it makes them feel uncomfortable.
21. All of the eye candy in CM is to further immerse the players in the experience of combat. The game could be played with little armor symbols representing the tanks infantry symbols representing the grunts but I think almost everybody would rather use the 3D models. It may be true that having men fly through the air is not necessary to the game, you could even say it would be a bit sadistic, but this is a war game. We are playing a game that simulates men fighting and killing each other. Too bad the real men doing the fighting in WWII didn't get to leave out the gore and the flying body parts. That is the difference between Saving Private Ryan and any number of movies made in the Forties and Fifties. The ultimate war game is one that totally immerses you in the fighting and gives you the most authentic experience possible. I really don't think you can say that CM is a better game because it leaves these types of things out.
22. I am looking for a few opponents who enjoy playing games on maps with lots of places to hide (buildings, woods, hills). I would like to play a meeting engagement with 1500-2000 points per side, combined arms. I don't really care which side I play. I think I am a decent player but haven't played enough human opponents to know for sure. If anyone is interested let me know, and Bring It On!!!
23. Sturmkompanie squads have 13 men per squad and are quite effective, they are one of my favorite units but you cannot purchase an individual platoon like you can for the other company sized units.
24. Does anybody know why you cannot purchase a Sturmplatoon? There are times when I don't want a full company.
