  1. Personally, I like CM for the fact that is is a turn based game. I like to sit and think about my strategy and view the landscape. I enjoy replaying the turns and viewing them from different angles. (Especially when I have a particularly good turn). CM is a great break from the other real time games that I play and I wouldn't have it any other way. Just my 2 cents.
  2. I REALLY, REALLY like this idea. I have been involved in many games that have been decided by this last minute rush. I am usually the type that makes a steady push towards the objectives while using as much cover and concealment as I can and trying to set up good defensive fields of fire and approach. I saw mentioned in one of the posts under this thread that you should be be able to set up for this so it should not matter. I disagree with that in that If a player hides the majority of his force until 10 or so turns left and then unleases them on you in a dead run and there are two or three objectives your defense may not get them all prior to the end of the game. I know in some of the games that I have played that in another couple of turns I would be able to push the enemy back, but as the game ends it shows the flag in question. I think this feature would add more realism to an already great game and like Teach has mentioned a number of times in his reply's you could choose to use or not. Just like FoW or the time limit on the TCP/IP games or choosing or you units or making your own battles... So why not add it (if it is possible) as an option for those of us who would like it. I think the basis for having it is valid and it seems that there is quite a bit of support for it. ------------------ Jimmy 4 Eyes
  3. Sorry, the last TeAch message was actually from me. It looks like he left his name in my computer when he fixed it. Geez the fun I could of had using his name.....
  4. quit playing single player games, I like an opponent that talks back when they are winning or has to listen when they are losing. OK so I am usually the one listening. Anyways AI is great but against a real live thinking person that game is more fun anyways. And no long delays on load ups, just long delays on receiving the blasted files.
  5. Thanks for the response Bill. If you figure it out this is a great mission and with some type of patch even better. Thanks for not just making something up. I am looking forward to your future scenarios.
  6. SPOILER X X X X X X X Wild Bill, I must say that I was really enjoying this operation. A friend and I were playing this and we were both blind. I was the Allies. I was disappointed in two things both which have been mentioned here. My opponent was really doing a good job on varying his attack and I was holding my own. At the end of the first battle He had a few squads in teh very front of the town, but they were well covered. I left the very front edge of the town undefended and rather had numerous ambush points set up just inside the town. I was very suprised when the battle ended and I was outside of the town and had to rush back and try to get good defensive positions. He on the other hand was pretty much where we ended and I took some initial losses getting back into position. I was able to re-establish a defensive front and felt that I was doing well. I had one platoon and two tanks on the far left side of the map (Allied left). Sorry can't remember where north was. My opponent sent a number of tanks and infantry and was able to get some of the units around behind me. At the end of that battle he was awarded a total victory. I understand the theory that I had to protect the road as well as the city, but he was no where close to getting behind the town and down the main road to Bastogne. I was preparing to set up additional defenses to guard that direction of the road. (I already had some spotters along the road). It was my understanding that only road (which is marked) Road to Bastogne is the victory point. He had taken a portion of a road that leads to the main one out of town, but had not got to the main road. Needless to say I felt cheated. In the final tally I had killed more troops and armor that he had and while I know that this is not a destroy operation, his advance on the road was not by any means decided. Is there possibly going to be a patch for this operation. If you like it the way it is, it's not my place to ask you to change it. We saved the last turn prior to the end of the 2nd battle as we both want to continue this and if there is a patch we were hoping to start where we left off. Once again, I know it is easy to critize, but the main reason I write this is that I really liked this particular operation, but believe that the total victory was premature. Thanks for reading this, Jimmy4Eyes [This message has been edited by Jimmy 4 Eyes (edited 07-08-2000).]
  7. SPOILER X X X X X X X X For the record TeAcH ending up beating me in our "nail biter" game. Damn that Panther is tough he withstood three zook blasts, and three shots from a dug in Sherman. I found the scenario to be a lot of fun and we lasted until the last few turns before it was clear that victory was not mine. Nice job TeAcH
  8. a little off the subject but I had a gas furnace put in at my house and found out that a spot under my crawl space was not deep enough. I headed under the house and laid on my belly just able to squeeze into this particular spot. I had a small shovel and laid on my belly digging a trench for the trunk line (10 feet long and 20 inches deep) I started at about 10 inches deep. I had to pull the dirt out bucket by bucket. Needless to say I was sore the next morning. My point is (did I have one).. is that what I envisioned was my days in the Marines and CM missions to keep my mind off the spiders (not a big fan of those scary freaks of nature). I was definetly "hull down as I lay in the trench. Its scary how much CM can be incorporated into every day life. [This message has been edited by Jimmy 4 Eyes (edited 07-03-2000).]
  9. I was playing this game with TeAcH and now that I think about it FOW must have been turned off. Does anyone know how this happened? We NEVER play with it off and in thinking back I could see his guys hiding in the buildings in the beginning. This was my first game with Elite troops so I thought it was some kind of special talent. I was also surprised when after my first turn where I had them all sneaking out of the woods into scattered trees he mentioned that he did not know this scenario gave me all elite troops. I could not figure out how he spotted all of my troops when they were on sneak. Guess no FOW explains it. For others who have had it shut off how do you make sure it is on before the first turn? If I am understanding correctly you set it and then it somehow gets shut off when the game starts. I don't want to figure it out after either side sees everyone in the first turn. Are we naming bugs? I vote we name this the Maneri (sp?) bug as rumor has it that he doesn't play with FOW.
  10. I have just completed the first battle of an operation and it does make you think more. I have been careful to move crew away from the battle and also have been taking more time in establishing positions. I am the defender in this case and with all the different units and troops I have had to really slow down to get good interlocking fields of fire... All in all it is very fun.
  11. TeAcH has been nice enough not to mention that he was playing me in this game. I have to admit that I was surprised that my tank not only targeted his tank, but fired and hit it. I watched from my end with the unit locked and on screen level "1" and I could not see his tank... This may be a bug worth looking at.
  12. I am the buddy TeAcH was referring to and yes I beat him in getting the game. It is probably the only "victory" I will score against him in regards to this. And as for TeAcH and I we are not Mac users.
  13. Congratulations BTS. Thanks for proving that quantity does not always beat quality. This game is awesome.
  14. Can't resist..... YES I got it today. I arrived at my mailbox with a friend, who knew that he did not have it yet. There sticking out of the mailbox was a SPECIAL envelope. The game looks great.. though i did not get the poster yet. But, I am definetly not complaining. THANK YOU BTS!!! By the way I live near Seattle
  15. Did you ask if this we liked this GAME? This isn't a game man this is a holistic experience into the depths of warfare. I no longer view my computer as an inanimate machine it is my window into the real world.... I work only to pay my DSL bill, I live only to upgrade my processing speed... I, I,.... Sorry about that yes, you could say I like it.

  17. I agree with a lot of the other comments. You do have to realise the very real possibilty of being activated as a reservist. Make sure that you are joining for the right reasons. College money is good and I agree make them give you a bonus, the economy is good so the military is short good bodies. I spent 7 years in the USMC reserves. The last three I had a lot of conflicts with my job. ( I was obligated for two of the three). So keep in mind your future plans. I would highly recommend the Marines, for all of the reasons everyone else has stated. I think in the Marines there is a closer bond then in the larger branches. As for the ASVAB and your high score (enough said). I don't think even with a lobotomy you could fail that test. I was in boot camp when the Marines landed in Kuwait (I was 21) and I was surprised to see how many recruits suddenly realized that they did not think they could kill anybody or how it dawned on many of them that this wasn't just a cool way to get a uniform and pick up chicks. So think about that stuff before you decide. Good luck in whatever you decide... but if you are still thinking about it see what the Marines has to offer.
  18. Come on now your are going to make BTS cry. All the work that they put into this game for a historical realistic point of view. The game isn't released yet and now we are talking Star Wars mod maps. On second thought... that'd be pretty cool...get back to work BTS!!!! (kidding i swear)
  19. No copying here. Good idea, Teach. And Teach I have another recruit (BIG JOE)...get on him and help me swing him to the BTS side.
  20. Thanks for the info. I will now quit wasting my time right clicking, left clicking, dragging, canceling, screaming...
  21. This is probably a stupid question, but how do you cancel an ambush point to move it somewhere else?
  22. Escurlock, I don't wear fatigues (BDU's) to work so when I come home I throw my suit on the ground and stomp on it like it was mean, nasty spider (only problem is my dry cleaning bill is getting expensive). I would put a smilie in here but some people get pretty offended. And as for the old guys calling them fatigues I am actually only 30 years old, but when I was in the Marine Reserves (90-97) thats what we called them. Guess a few of the "old" Gunnies rubbed off on me.
  23. I am glad the full version does not have the winter cami's because I don't own any. Like everyone else I sit in my fatigues with my h harness and flak jacket on while I play. Everyone does this right???
