  1. I get a really loud 'wind' noise sometimes too. My solution is to turn the sound off Alt+S then back on.
  2. Hey, Sorry to bring this thread back from the dead...but... if like me you never did figure out how to win this scenario - I found an excellent youtube 'tutorial' for this scenario. Very informative Big thanks to Peter if he frequents these forums.
  3. Thanks Deiseltaylor for pointing that out . It's the last screenshot of post #650 in GAJ's AAR Any thoughts on if bino's would have made a difference?
  4. I had one thought regarding GAJ's spotting woes - if the team in the bunker had binoculars maybe they would have seen Bill's infantry crossing in front of it. (I'm not sure if they did or not, nor how it is modeled in the game - but just a thought). Actually I'm sure there was a screenshot with the team stat's shown and no binocs. Found screenshot - it's the last screenshot on Pg65 of GAJ's AAR.
  5. No worries bro - I actually laughed out loud when I seen it. I wish I could offer some great tactical advice but I'm a tactic's novice. I'm learning heaps from these excellent AARs though so thankyou.
  6. Haha - good to see you can see the humorous side . Enjoying the AARs
  7. Thanks for the advice Phil and yeah kudos to the scenario designer
  8. I bow to Phil's abilities!! Can you give me a clue on how you isolated the the defender and achieved fire superiority. (Wow I'm using tactical speak!) Eg what terrain did you use as cover etc. I think I may be missing an important tactic or probably I'm really bad at assessing terrain (e.g I don't do any assessment)
  9. Hey Meatetr thanks for the scenario - it's nice to have a fun scenario where you get to see the rare stuff and just have a play
  10. **spoiler*** Hi JonS - you have summed up what I found extremely well. Really good timing of the smoke and a lot of luck (A devastating first hit with a PIAT would be nice!) might win the day, maybe I could wait until the germans on the hill run out of ammo... I don't think I've got the patience though.
  11. Yup I've had the same result. ***spoiler alert**** I've tried smoking the building on the hill with MG and popping smoke. But the Para's Mgs/smgs in the train station just slaughter my men before they can return effective fire. I think my PIAT maybe the key to routing the germans. But they don't survive long enough. A tough nut to crack for sure!! Any ideas from the tactical geniuses here would be great. I feeel sorry for my troops
  12. Yeah I've played that one too. Was fun demolishing everything! The CAS dropped a huge bomb next to one of my brumbar but no damage. A few strafing runs as well but the bear shook them off too. Tough bugger!
  13. Yeah - download option would be great!! Especially for us not in the USA (I also have $27 shipping cost to NZ). Seems strange they don't offer a 'download only' pre-order but knowing Battlefront there must be one. Anyway I remember when I pre-ordered CMBO all those years ago. I had to wait ~ 6 weeks because it went to New Caledonia not New Zealand. Now that was painful !!!! . Now hurry Steve/Battlefront and give us a chance to download - the pre-order guys have had there chance....haha
  14. Yeah it's a bit unfair for us living on the other side of the world who don't want to pay an extra $27 dollars in shipping!! - otherwise I would gladly pre-order. Battlefront do somefink!!! I can't wait to play the as the Kiwi's. I'm sure the accent is going to be hardcase though - I'd love to do a mod that had a Maori accent for the soldiers voices, I guess I'd have to make the faces a bit browner too. Does anyone have a list of the filenames I'd need to create?? cheers
  15. haha yeah long time lurker - I didn't even know about weta workshop when I registered. Wish I did work there!! Yeah the antitank team was eliminated soon after the tank was hit so maybe the tank crew felt secure enough to not bail. It did seem a little out of the ordinary - but I haven't played enough to no what is common or not. I was just wanting to know if you lose the driver does that mean you can no longer move the tank? This seems reasonable to me, however not been able to dis-mount might be a bug or programming oversight possibly?
  16. I did check the emotional state and they were nervous but I could order them to shoot, etc o.k oh well - no worries. thanks for your input baneman.
  17. I agree that the default move SOP could be move to contact IMHO. As it stands I very rarely use move. If I really need to get some where I use quick or fast. Would be great to have a move to contact option (especially for scouts as an example) as hunt is overly tiring
  18. Hi, I had a tank driver killed and was then unable to move the tank (which I can understand) What I'm more unsure about is - I could not manually bail out the crew which seemed a bit odd to me. Is this normal? And is it similar for other crew members? cheers P.S This was in CMFI (sorry wrong forum but I assume it is similar)
  19. oh no PJ better watch out - A grog has some issues with the orc warrior tactics! Just to get this back on topic. Does anyone else, besides myself and womble, think it might be good to have the TAcAI not only pop smoke and reverse, when confronted with a tank with armour it is unlikely to penetrate, but possibly shoot smoke at the threat (especially when on the move)? If not maybe explain why it could be bad for gameplay. Don't worry I'm not asking if it can be done (only BF can answer that!) - I'm just wondering if there is anymore discussion to wring out of this topic? Obviously RT Head to head players can manually perform this action, but single player vs AI or turn based commanders might be more interested in this.
  20. I'm not sure - I haven't talked to Peter Jackson for a while maybe I'll take a walk over to Hobbiton to find out
  21. Yeah I agree behaviour like that should be probability based as this ensures more variety of AI behaviour (which as long as the different options are realistic) gives the game a more dynamic flavour. Great to hear this tactic was used WW2 - I'm sure like almost all my knowledge I heard about this tactic from the CMBO forum days which was like 10-12 years ago now!!!?? so I wasn't sure if it was valid or not. Without a detailed knowledge (which only BF have of course) of how units react to different threats this is all just an interesting discussion (nothing wrong with that!) - but I would like to see in future progressions of the game more specific TAC AI and things like triggers for the strategic AI plans been programmed in to make for a better single player experience. cheers
  22. Hey Womble thanks for your reply- I agree with what you said regarding the borg spotting and the AI not area firing probably been good reasons for the different outcome in cm2. But in the interest of keeping the discussion ongoing - If a unit can decide to pop smoke and reverse - why not shoot smoke at the tiger(not even area fire)?. Very simplistic I know but this would be especially useful if the sherman tank is already moving quick or fast IMHO
  23. Hi, I'm not sure if this has been discussed before - my apologies if it has and I could be completely wrong on this as I'm new to the CM2 engine but here is something I just noticed in CMFI. Here is the scenario: One of the things I remember in CM1 was I'd have my tiger tank (cherry picked of course, but hey, the AI never complained ) nicely positioned to take on the hoards of medium tanks but I remember been disappointed by how few shots I could actually fire, because the TAC AI had a great survival mechanism - where the lighter/medium tanks would automatically shoot smoke at the tiger tank while on the move. (My guesss is they did it if it was unlikely they could penetrate the opposing tanks armour at range). By blinding the tank it gave the allies a great way of flanking the tiger tank. This TACAI algorithm is quite different to pop smoke and reverse as it means the medium tanks could actually advance rather then just retreat/defend. I don't know if it is unrealistic, or something that is hard to program or maybe it is coded but I haven't seen it yet. I did try a test scenario - and the shermans did not fire smoke only popped smoke and reversed. I had good results when I commanded the same shermans and manually fired smoke so it can be done and the tactic works. Would be great to hear from BF or someone with more experience of the new engine but no big deal just thought I'd mention it. Maybe the Eastern front with potentially long flat plains it would be handy for the TACAI to do something automatically like this. By the way the CMFI game looks fantastic - I reloaded CMAK (after cleaning 3 or 4 years of dust off the CD!) to check that i wasn't imagining the old TACAI behaviour and was amazed at how hard it was to move around after getting used to the CM2 engine. If any other CMBO demo veterans are still lurking and haven't bought the CMBN or CMFI game because they have only tried the CMBN demo v1.0 and couldn't get used to it. Get the latest CMBN demo TAKE AT LEAST 3-4 HOURS maybe even 2 or 3 sessions to get used to the controls and learn how to use arty etc- it's definately worth it!!
  24. I couldn't find them at http://freenet-homepage.de/t34m43/index.html However they are listed in an excel file under birdgunner. I will try downloading the zips and see if they are there. I now have all the old CMBO demos. Just finished playing Reisberg - just like old times but better thanks Philippe [ February 16, 2008, 02:56 PM: Message edited by: weta_nz ]
