  1. I tried running/installing on a Linux system at my university but ran into to trouble immediately.

./SpaceVikings: error while loading shared libraries: libaa.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Exactly what libraries do I need? We do have rather good computers over here with 3D acceleration enabled. There are also hordes of game eager students with no spare time. Would be a blast to try and max out the number of players.

Appreciate any help I can get!

  2. I'll have to put in some promo for CMMC2: Combat Mission Meta Campaign 2. Set on the eastern front in september 42; we are portraying a meeting engagement after a Soviet breakthrough featuring ~3 division per side. The operation is focused around rivercrossings/bridgehead ops.

The game started out at 0600 in the morning with the sides separated by ~10 km and we have now reached 0900 and operations are in full swing. It's by no means too late to join though. This is a long running campaign and you will have game for months/years to come.

Pop in at http://www.cmmc2.org/ to see for your self.

  3. Very interesting Jason! I have now completed the 100 series quite easily except for the 110 one. smile.gif What I think I noticed in that one (when it finally cracked) is the value of having one or two squads heads up and stationary. They can then spot at better ranges than a strict advance + hide drill.

I'm eager to start on the 200s but sleep is in high demand.

  4. I haven't participated in a TacOps CPX before and it was some time since I played TacOps last time but it does sound interesting. I'm game for a junior role! smile.gif I do have ample CM experience and also some CPX experience from CMMC2.

I'm in Sweden (GMT+1) so the proposed time works fine for me (due to the holidays).

  5. Hey, I agree with, at least, the five previous posters. :D It's great fun to play the game at the small level (I hope so at least) at first. And then when hardware and skillz improves one can move on to bigger games where you see tactics at a higher level become relevant.

  6. A seriously big gain in CM must be the turn based system where you compute what happens first, then you display it. Shouldn't that allow for very detailed "under the hood" effects given that RAM can keep it all in memory. The 3D movie is still limited by hardware but you don't have to do any LOS checks then, right?

  7. After playing some T72:BOF you get a real appreciation for how hard it is to both stay hulldown and be able to depress your gun enough to engage the enemy. I would really like to see this modeled. The TacAI would need to be able to deal with it though, so you don't have to check every tank. Even better would be a graphical aid that shows you your engagement envelope, like a transparent pie slice intersecting the terrain (or not, in the worst case).
