  1. I just played through a nice red vs red QB in a hilly map (vs AI). I was defending with republican guards with regular army guys coming at me. Both forces mixed armor/mech. It was great fun!

Now to the oddities, the T72M1V (2001) tanks I got engaged some infantry. They started out with MGs but then something went BOOM. I naturally thought this to be their HE rounds but looking at the ammo remaining I soon realized they used their AT-11 ATGMs? Then when the enemy T62MV tanks drove into their sights they used first HE and later a mix of HEAT and sabot. Is this behaviour due to modelling the round in the breach? Ie you have to shoot out whatever is in there before you can load something else.

Another sequence was late in the game when I moved up my BMP2s to clear out the remaining enemey troops. As it happened there was one T62 left and it promptly smoked one BMP. The other one gained LOS to the tank without being engaged in return. I gave the targetting order in hope to get to see an AT5 fly off and kill the tank (or even cooler if it would be blocked by the T62s reactive armor). But my BMP started to pummel the tank with its 30 mm gun. Only after firing several salvos over some 30 seconds did it make a longer pause (aiming) and then let go with the AT5. Had the tank been a bit more alert my BMP would have died for sure. Or did the BMP AI feel it needed to strip of the reactive armor before firing the ATGM?

I can't wait to play this baby verus a real opponent. :D

  2. Except for lack of WEGO in TCP/IP I can't see where WEGO is anywhere an afterthought? Sure, many people seem to prefer RT now but WEGO is still very much there. As I play bigger and bigger battles I will for sure switch to WEGO and it's a necessity for PBEM. I do enjoy RT for smaller battles though, they take a lot less time to play through this way.

  3. I second the veteran plus level. I like elite except for the lack of order giving while paused. It makes RT difficult with large forces.

And as far as I have understood there are direct hotkeys for the various command panels. Will have to check out the numpad stuff also.

  4. Running pretty fine on the following system:

    1.8 GHz AMD

    512 MB DDR RAM

    ATI 9600

My laptop was a bit worse but that's because I'm having problems updating my video drivers which are over a year old...

My first impressions are that this is combat mission for sure but it will take a little bit of getting used to. Camera controls are fine for me, as is real time. The immersion is very good from the get go. Tool tips would be very nice though, but I have already started reading the f***ing manual. smile.gif

  5. During my service in Sweden we used active ear protection. It worked pretty well, you could even get slight amplification of low level sound. Still, it's not the "real thing". Anyone heard of such things being tried in combat? Or is the fear of batteries dying in the wrong moment too high?

  6. No, In CM I have certainly discovered "hidden" dead soldiers from eg an earlier arty strike only when I later got close. The exception to this is vehicles that light up, for those you see the smoke column rising but nothing else.
