If this is true, I still hold my belief that a MG 42 team should be able to run for lets say 8 seconds or so maybe 10 and the tire and walk. I just dont see why they cant run when the heat is on. Perhaps a loss of some ammo would be appropriate to show the quickness of the team booking out of their position in the heat of fire. Leave a few boxes of ammo behind, but the MG team can still book out of there if it gets hellish. Just my 2 cents.

Current engine limitation. Would be realistic to have it, but can't be done. That's what BTS said in one of the earlier threads on the topic.
 2.
quote:
Originally posted by Seanachai: So your original choice of attacking the Peng Challenge Thread, and everyone who posts there, rather than taking up your issues with the individuals that you had issues with...well, think how that appears, both to those who post there, and those who don't, not to mention those who don't even know what it's all about.

Oh come of it Snootypie. Not that I have the time to read the tripe you peddle (or is that piddle?), as I never had, because it is little better than watching a re-run of a particularly bad episode of 3rd Rock, but either of us knows that anyone who ever even looked into the Peng Thread is not worth bothering with, and let me not even start on the regular posters there, present or past. As I full well know they are best kept in a cage, fed decaying bananas (that's how we deal with Peter anyway) and should be poked with pointed sticks at random intervals, although attacking them with an over-ripe Mango would probably go too far. So just monkey back to the cage, and chew on the bars, or somefink. Shoo.
 3.
quote:
Originally posted by Big Time Software: Right you are. Which is partly why CM is what is, which means it is not like the other "serious" wargames out there, some of which still have yet to realize there is a program called Windows that does some rather amazing things

Like crash at random intervals, and for no particular reason at all? Or like giving me a bleedin' headache for having to deal with it at work?
 4.
quote:
Originally posted by Cubbies Phan: LOL! I was actually thinking they looked a little bloated due to "that time of the month".

'That time of the month' where all the German supply system managed to deliver was Sauerkraut?
 5.
quote:
Originally posted by SuperTed: Here are some prints of original OKH operational maps: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/prit.buttar/index.htm Enjoy!

Thanks a lot ST - Grego had dug that one up. With maps like these, no wonder my grandfather did never get into Moscow... Well, something to be grateful for, really. Difficult to do stuff from them. There was a nice link in the Spanish Division thread the other day - unfortunately those did not have elevations. What were these guys thinking?! Obviously not of us mapmakers...
 6.
quote:
Originally posted by Lars: Now if you want a map of Moscow, Minnesota, I can help.

Let me guess - it is very flat and unless we get a mod of the local udes mounted in a pick-up chasing hogs there would not be much point in doing it in CMBO ?
 7.
quote:
Originally posted by Tiger: I don't mind people disagreeing with me Germanboy. However I'd say the door does not apparently swing both ways for some here, does it. Tantrum? I'm not upset in the least GB.

Oh the door swings both ways - I get terribly upset with her too when she does that. Although I should know better then getting upset with a less-than 4-year old.
 8.
quote:
Originally posted by Panzer Leader: Basically, it is possible, and it can be realistic, so you're heavy-handed attitude is not very objective. Why don't you just say "No, because I don't want them." It has as much merit.

Sorry, no idea who you are talking to. If it is me, you may want to look at the BTS Grand campaign thread, since I believe (correct me if I am wrong) that MrSpkr got his idea from my reply to him in there. I have no issue with a campaign like that, and would think it would be a great addition to the game. I think having the mechanism to deal with a campaign like CMMC would be even greater though. Many people in the past thought that a campaign ought to be like the ones in Panzer General, and I just think that would be a waste of time (and so does BTS, BTW)
 9.
quote:
Originally posted by Tiger: [snip]Then you get the Slapdragon/Germanboy 'intellectual' fanclub to join in "oh Tiger's just looking to stroke his ego". Pu-lease. Get a life Germanboy. I haven't been to these forums in awhile, much less modded anything for longer.[snip]

Matey, you are not doing yourselves any favours here. Currently you come of slightly less mature than my 4-year old niece. She tends to throw a tantrum as well if I don't agree with her ideas on e.g. how much ice-cream she wants. But carry on, human nature is fascinating to observe You said you were leaving?
 10.
quote:
Originally posted by MrSpkr: No apologies necessary - you have handled yourself well, as always. Now, if I could only get that CMMC guy to email me back . . .

Thanks. Now with four kids and a wifey you should really consider whether you want to get into CMMC
 11.
quote:
Originally posted by MrSpkr: Andreas, I have never implied, stated, inferred, presumed, or otherwise believed the grogs should pack up their bags and get the heck out of Dodge. They clearly have a role here, and an important one. However, the subset of grogs I was referring to are the ones who are willing to post over 500 posts on submachine guns, but dismiss calls for a campaign style game or who rail for page after page against the inclusion of the JSII or JSIII, then scream about how BTS has screwed up part of the game, then jump on some newbie who asks a question or makes a request. Those people are counterproductive jerks.

Fair enough - and I agree that the casual gamers have done more for the sales numbers of BTS than the grogs. That was built on the back of the work done by grogs (who IMO include Steve and Charles) though. Both groups are important to the success. Now if we could agree that they both have a right to be here, maybe we can conclude that we do in fact think roughly along the same lines. I have no problems with requests from someone for a campaign game, for the Maus or for blood-splatter-gore. I have a problem with people denying me to respond to that by voicing my opinion because it hurts their feelings (which you have not done, just to make that clear). So as long as I can say that I don't agree with campaigns in the traditional model (I love CMMC though), the inclusion of the Maus or indeed the inclusion of BSG, without being accused of being the FBI, a BTS Sycophant or whatever, I am content. A bit of mutual respect would go a long way. That is missing here, and it is missing on both sides to some degree, no doubt about it. There are people here who care deeply about one aspect of the game, and who will make that known. Debates about these aspects are not easy, because of the inherent limitations of the medium they are conducted in (see Moriarty's post elsewhere). Dismissing somebody else's opinion because it is presumed to be either sycophantism or childish love of BSG is not getting anybody anywhere. I think to some degree some of the recent threads here (on firing on the move, or some of Scipio's inquiries) have been quite good examples of how debate can and should go. (I know Scipio or Slappy may disagree, but that maybe due to language difficulties, and a different social research tradition), and we would all be better off if that was the norm, and not the exception. So apologies for blowing the top above. I do try to be better, but sometimes it just happens. I care very much about the contributions by the grogs that I thought you so casually dismissed. I don't consider myself one, but I have learned so much from them that I hate to see them slagged off. I was obviously out of line.
 12. Right, I am thinking about thinking to get into map design for CMBB, after all a good map takes a while. Anyone with any links for maps of the former Soviet Union in small scale 1:50,000 or smaller that are available on the web, please post the link here. Especially sought after are maps that show WW2 areas of fighting, or even better WW2 era maps. Toodles in advance.
 13. Great stuff - love the stick grenade. Shame I hate winter, the snow makes my eyes hurt...
 14.
quote:
Originally posted by David Aitken: Yup, paranoia all right. Anyway, Tiger has now stated that his reasons for leaving and withdrawing his work are not entirely to do with the 'dead body' debate, so how about we let him go and move on?

I am getting a bit tired of this grog bashing. Maybe some people should just start playing Sudden Strike if they don't like Grognards, I am sure their forums will be glad to have you. As they say around here: Goodbye and good riddance.
 15.
quote:
Originally posted by MrSpkr: Not the end of the story. Yes, the grog's were likely invaluable in helping create CMBO. Yes, they were likely a valuable resource for BTS.[snip] Pathetic, pointless, and ultimately destructive to BTS (and therefore the grogs)because the casual gamer 9'wargamer-lite') will take his money elsewhere.

No who do you really think is currently beta-testing CMBB and contributing to scenario design? Answers on a postcard please. Yes you are right, that does not give anyone the right to claim they own the game. But your post was just dismissing these people as a bunch of weirdos and sad sacks who get into the way of you enjoying the game. The Grogs have as much a right to be here than those who play the game with no care for a discussion of German optics with 620 (give or take a few) posts, if not more so. If you don't like it, maybe you should give Sudden Strike a try? For the record - I don't care squat about the casual wargamer. I don't care what you care for either, but it is not the casual wargamer that currently helps BTS develop CMBB. Your 'were' is entirely off the mark. It is 'are'. Get real. Oh, and before you come crying about being stomped on by member No.1091, you labeled a whole bunch of people as pathetic and pointless, so don't be a sissy when you get the sort of response adequate to your initial post.

(3) One who enjoys belittling and degrading others who desire a wargame contain something 'just for fun.' SEE ALSO: whiner. geek, sad sack.

I said it before, I say it again: If it was not for the grogs, you would all be playing Sudden Strike. End of story.
 17.
quote:
Originally posted by MrSpkr: If you get jbailey@resolutecapital.com to return your email. Someone who knows that patience is a virtue James is very busy, as head-GM of CMMC and someone with a real job. He will reply to you when he gets around to it. You won't miss too much, believe me. This will go on for another year or so.

'The Pz IV (with KwK 7,5 L40) was at all times superior to the Sherman with 7,5 M3 gun' I also read 'Stalingrad' (Anthony Beaver), a quotation from the Russian tankers about the lent-lease Sherman 'They are useless, thin armor, bad engine...' Well, I won't turn this into a discussion about the PzIV vs Sherman, I only have the details for the PzIV (I must purchase the other books too ). But I wonder why the results are so different in CM. I haven't tested it yet, but I guess the Shermans take out the PzIV from MUCH higher distances. (use my translation with care )

Do yourself a favour DL the operation/battle by Helge (DesertFox) called Cintheaux Totalize. There you will have a lot of Shermans shoot at a lot of Panzer IVs. The Panzer IV takes out the Sherman at 1,800+m in that fight. The Sherman does not Edit: Like all really good scenarios, available at Der Kessel... [ 07-26-2001: Message edited by: Germanboy ]
 19.
quote:
Originally posted by Stacheldraht: [QB]These were the first ones to which critics resorted when judging art or entertainment. QB]

And these are very thorny issues that generate a lot of heated debate, simply because even people from the same cultural background can not agree, let alone those from other cultural backgrounds. Which is also what you saw in that thread. You have a right to your opinion in this matter, I have a right to mine, and BTS has a right to theirs. The argument going on there did exactly zilch to 'resolve' the matter, because the people arguing did not want to budge. All it did was generate a lot of animosity. As Seanachai pointed out there, what was the point of asking the question publicly, when everyone here knows Steve's email address and can raise it privately, knowing that the matter would degenerate very quickly? Oh, and since that still seems to be overlooked, it degenerated also because Tiger started lashing out at David when he disagreed with him, but that seems to be a minor matter, and excused by the fact that he is a talented modder. I invite everyone to reread the thread. It is quite clear to me who started going for the jugular first.
 20.
quote:
Originally posted by Scipio: 'use with care' - you mean the results on the battlefield are not usually not so good like in the calculation, or generally different, so the result on battlefield could be also better?

I believe he means they could be better, since the armour on the tanks in question was more vulnerable due to its quality than the thickness would suggest.

 23. I/O Error, I think it is Phyrric Your idea is absolutely spot-on, and it is one of the most important thing to get the players e.g. in CMMC to understand that force preservation is much more important than winning the next fight at any cost. I hope that BTS will be able to introduce a system whereby scenario designers can assign a value to the objective (as is done now implicitly, by probe/attack/assault settings) that will make the amount of losses a dynamic part of the victory conditions. So in an assault you are allowed to lose quite a lot more guys and tanks than in a probe etc.pp. Good idea, and hopefully comes in soon. Not sure how good that would be for QBs, but for scenario design I'd love to have that tool.
 24. What is this? Right or wrong, he is a great modder, therefore we should not argue with him? Can you lot please get real? This is beginning to remind me of the case in the very early days where another great modder was excused by some for using the pirated version of CMBO, just because he was a great modder. Being able to handle Paintshop Pro does not make you a better person! Tiger knew what he was getting himself into, he was no saint during the debate, and the low level of that debate was really not due to either side in it (Echo, Rommel22 certainly did nothing to bring the level up). As far as leaving goes, if you can't hack it anymore, leave. I have done that, and if that's how you feel, fine. Unlike some others, I did not think that I would be important enough to start a little tantrum about leaving though, I just went. I think I would respect Tiger more if he had done the same. What I suspect he is doing here now is trying to cash in on his modder status. I maybe wrong, but that is what it looks like from here. Oh, and before I forget: HI MOM!
