  1. Regarding probability of kill and projectile size... <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR> AFAIK, the chance of whether or not a weapon that penetrates a vehicle kills it is based upon the caliber of the projectile; the larger the higher the likelyhood of a kill. The Bazooka is 60mm, the Piat is 77mm, and the Shreck is 88mm. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> ...isn't there some relationship to the effectiveness of the shaped charge warhead? I understand the PIAT charge was perhaps less effective against armor than the bazooka. Anyone have more info? Howitzer
  2. MadMatt, et al, This was likely discussed before, but I couldn't find it ... What are the current targets for hardware/RAM/system OS for CM2, including video card/memory? Both Mac and PC info would be nice, but as I use Macs, that alone is sufficient for me. Thanks in advance, Howitzer
  3. Ted, I can't seem to get access to the links at the bottom of your page (news, links, etc.). They do not appear as "clickable links" in my browser (IE5.0 on a Mac). Is this a known problem? How best to work-around it? Thanks, Howitzer
  4. OK, there is truly NO accounting for taste, but I have to give the movie both of my thumbs... ...up, that is. Yes, it does get slow toward the end, but I believe the effect is intentional and meant to represent the final weeks as endured by the German soldiers with the knowledge that they were doomed -- and for NO worthy reason. BUT, it gives you a great feeling of the transition of the landsers' mood from times of victory to deadly struggle and finally to despair , and it does a very credible job of bringing you the claustrophobic feeling of Stalingrad's brutal street fighting. IMHO, everyone with an interest in WWII should watch it. Regards, Howitzer (aka Steve C.) [This message has been edited by Howitzer (edited 03-09-2001).]
  5. Peter, Great news! I really enjoyed your first "feature"...can't wait for the next one. Thanks for coming back to this project, your audience appreciates it. Regards, Steve C. (aka Howitzer)
  6. YES! Cha-Ching! Superb job and congratulations to all involved at BTS and Battlefront. Keep up the good work, and keep up your high standards... Best Wishes, Howitzer
  7. OK, Dudes! I did my part for the war effort by voting for CM. Now, get your tails over there and VOTE! When it comes to strategy/tactics/simulation, there is NO other game worthy of being number 1! Rock on, Howitzer
  8. Here, here! I would love to see GameRanger supported in the final release of TCP/IP...pretty please?!?! Howitzer
  9. Here, here! I'd like to second/third/fourth that motion! GameRanger is such an easy way to find (Mac) opponents. CM on GameRanger would be mutually beneficial, introducing many other non-traditional wargamers to the game. And we all know what happens once someone tries CM, right? Great Job BTS and Battlefront! Keep up the super job! Thanks, Steve C. (aka Howitzer)
  10. G-Boy, Thanks for the post. Informative and meaningful. Regards, Steve C. aka Howitzer
  11. Hey Stringer! Thanks for the great link...very detailed and interesting info! Steve C.
  12. Actually, "cube", you can use the converted files you've made. From your description, I am assuming that you're installing the "snd" resources using RedEdit. And, like me, you've run into the out of memory error dialog. If so, then here's the fix... a) Quit ResEdit. Find the ResEdit app and open the "Get Info" window. c) Select memory on the drop down of info to show. d) Increase the max memory to a reasonable level; mine is currently at 4MB (4096kb). [The suggested memory on V2.3.1 is 520kb, and my minimum was set to under 400kb, and the max was very low (under 1MB).] e) Now reopen ResEdit and try your copy/paste operations again, and you should find the sounds install with no problems. Just make sure the ID and name are identical. FYI, Steve C. mailto:carrs@fuse.net
  13. Steve, Thanks for the update! Very good news! I look forward to the occasional TCP/IP game for a quick hit, but my schedule is actually better suited to PBEM. Thanks Charles! Steve C.
  14. Ahem, I know this is petty, but I can't help myself...to quote "the Steve"... <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Purchase a Rifle Company. It goes over to the left hand "bought" column. You then...<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Don't purchased units go in the RIGHT HAND "bought" column? Are you the real Steve? Steve C.
  15. Horray! Congrats to Matt and Dan! I better job cannot be had! BUT! On the website thing, please, do NOT follow the same style guide as CMHQ. It hurts my eyes, is a real estate hog and even on ADSL takes too long to load. Thanks. Steve C.
  16. Thanks for all the replies! I'm running an original Bondi-blue iMac with 96MB RAM and the GameWizard 8MB card in the mezzanine slot. So, I guess the 8MB won't be enough...I'll have to wait until I get a mini-tower...sigh. Thanks again, Steve C. (aka Howitzer)
  17. Hey, Mac Mod users, I need your help. I've used the Mod Manager to install several different mods, including the gridded-grass. But, no matter what I try, I cannot seem to ever get the grass grids to work. It's weird, because the faces work, the flags work, but the grass does not. Any ideas? Thanks in advance, Steve C. mailto:carrs@fuse.net
  18. I first heard about CM when it was still (tentatively) computer ASL under Avalon Hill. That seems like a long time ago, now. But, BOY! OH BOY! was it worth it, or what! Steve C.
  19. I'm having frequent crash problems, too, on my iMac Rev A, Voodoo2, OS 9.0.4. V1.01 was much more stable. The crashes range from type 2 errors at app startup, to errors on saving PBEM files . I can restart and often solve the problem, but it crops up again shortly thereafter... BTS, any help or suggestions? Steve C.
  20. OK, OK, I've got the semi-official** numbers on CM players with Mac's vs. PC's -- with some demographics even! Player Type / Mac / Windoze Elite / 95% / 5% Volksturm / 5% / 95% Howitzer (**Actually I made them up, but from my experience, they must be accurate! ) [This message has been edited by Howitzer (edited 07-23-2000).]
  21. Rune, I understand your comments, but I still agree mostly with the original post...it is often a little too easy to see which non-brewed-up vehicles (and especially guns) are knocked out. I don't believe it has a detrimental affect on game play, but there is room for refinement here (to which your post alluded). A good, subtle insight to the game Jarmo! Steve C.
  22. Well, well...I go away for a few days and a skirmish breaks out ...had I read a well balanced, give-and-take discussion I would not be posting. However, most of what I have read sums to this: "Americans aren't any better than us (imply your nationality here)!" Fair enough, as individuals we are all created equal. (Gee, didn't I read that in the US Constitution? ) BUT,... I violently disagree that americans AS A WHOLE aren't more generous than most. Yes, our generosity exists because of the tremendous blessings that have befalling our country. But, NO, it isn't all done for the thanks. If we wanted to be guaranteed some renumeration or obeisance we'd use the government or the military all the time. As a people, we give of our income to NON-government organizations that help millions around the world, because a majority of americans actually CARE about others! That's the bottomline! Sure, we have our problems. But, there is no other country on earth, past or present, of which I would want to be a citizen. God Bless America. Steve C.
  23. That's what I had in mind, too. A litho, or modest size print. Anyone else? Steve C.
  24. OK, guys, I'm putting this back at the top in order to get some more requests in to Charles/Steve/et al about another print (color this time) with the artists AND BTS signatures, too -- would be WAY COOL ! How about it Steve/Charles? Steve C.
