  1. Yeah, this has reared its ugly head in TCP and PBEm play for me as well The error I get is: Unhandled exception: C0000005 at address: 00482a05 Im running WinXP, 64mb NVidia GeForce4 MX 440 Lt Bull
  2. I got to say that I too have experienced this peculiar behaviour in CMBB as well. eg. An infantry platoon with 3 squads abreast with the HQ several meters behind them hiding in foxholes in woods. Enemy infantry approach and it is the HQ unit (the most distant unit) that decides to break cover and open fire! As Bone_Vulture described, all enemy fire is then targetted at the spotted HQ, it breaks leaving the rest of the platoon leaderless. This was not a case of conscript or green HQ units either. This has happened frequently enough for me to have taken notice. Lt Bull
  3. Rex, At the lowest tree coverage setting "Sparse Coverage", the tree animations have been disabled. You shouldn't have to be stuck with a completely barren looking map if your system can handle the tree animation-free setting of "Sparse Coverage". If your system can not currently handle "Sparse Coverage" without tree animations as it is, then you would be struggling even more even if there was no tree animations at the higher tree coverage settings. On the flip side, I would like to see tree animations at the "Sparse Coverage" setting. My system can easily handle it. The request for a separate "Tree Animations" toggle has been brought up before. I do not believe it will be altered in the patch however. Lt Bull [ October 13, 2002, 10:02 AM: Message edited by: Lt Bull ]
  4. Garry, In my books, you have THE BEST CMBO/CMBB site on the web hands down! The design, presentation and completness is just fantastic. The work you have put into it is comprehensive and your MOD catalogue work is of Biblical significance (well probably not read by as mean but still, for people intrested in CM mods, it is all there). Your site has got to be THE best advertisment for showcasing the range of units and mods anywhere. Anyone with a passing interest in CM would surely want to buy the game after browsing your website. If BTS aren't paying you to maintain your page, then they bloody well should! If anyone hasn't checked out this amazing bit of work, DO IT NOW! Best regards Lt Bull
  5. Thanks Garry, I had a feeling that may have been the case. When I first noticed it, I thought (I hoped) I had unintentionally turned off the "Animate Trees" setting (which of course doesn't exist ). BTW, the reason why I sometimes use the "Sparse Coverage" settings is so that I could see my units better (esp. in wooded maps), and not because I got performance problems. No big deal but a separate toggle for activating/deactivating "Tree Animations" would be a good comprimise. Lt Bull
  6. While we are on the subject of reducing the "Tree coverage" from "Extreme", "Full" and "Moderate" to "Sparse" (not "None"), I was surprised to notice that at the "Sparse" setting (just a frew trees here and there), that the "trees blowing in the wind" animation does not seem to work. Can anyone else verify this? Is this intentional? A bug? Lt Bull
  7. Hmmm...yes, I too have noticed something strange with regards to LOS/spotting/concealment and light terrain. I'm keen to hear what BTS have got to say. Lt Bull
  8. Yep looks great. I would be intereted in trying it out. Lt Bull
  9. Is it possible? I think I read somewhere that, when viewing the map at camera view 3 or higher, all/some dodads are disabled to lighten the load on the video card/CPU etc. I think my system could handle it. Lt Bull [ October 06, 2002, 02:39 AM: Message edited by: Lt Bull ]
  10. Looks good AuusieJeff, though I can't say I have a good idea for what the original CMBB winter tiles look like. Just an idea for making it easier for us to decided, perhaps a comparison shot next to it of the original CMBB tiles. I am a fan of tiles that allow you to pick elevation variations. Lt Bull
  11. First off, what a great scenario design. I played this scenario last night TCP as the Germans double-blind with EFOW. SPOILERS (of course) * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * The result was a Tactical german victory (though it may have been a Major if I had bothered to place a unit next to a flag well behind the lines ). I was expecting and was prepared for my opponent to advance anywhere along the length of the map. It turns out he advanced basically head on over that ridge that has that first flag on it. I had 2 AT guns and 3 Panthers directly covering that approach. A full Platoon + AT gun + HMG were lined up on the extreme right flank covering a flanking move which never eventuated. I basically sparsely occuppied the town itself. There was a SMG platoon and HMG unit in the town but it was destroyed by the rocket barrage (was that impressive) and the advancing hordes of ussian infantry through the woods. The remaining platoon was lined up on the outskirts of the town to prevent any further infantry advance. My basic plan was to forfiet the first flag (of course) and the Church flag and contest the other flag further in the town. My AT guns and Panthers of course were to ambush any armor at the most opportune moment. I have never had an ambush and subsequent shoot out go so well!!! At the end of the day, I think all but 1-3 Russian tanks remained for the loss of 2 Tigers (who I sent on a flanking move around those woods on the German left)and 1 Panther (who I sent ambitiously on a solo right flanking move). My opponent advanced a full platoon of IS-2s to find hull down at the wall near the Church. It was at this momemnt that my ambush commenced. it was a beautiful sight. I had my ambushing Panthers set on Shoot n Scoot confusing the heck out of the Russian armor trying to target. Unbelievably, one of my AT guns survived with 4 tank kills and 14 infantry kills! They got the Knights Cross for that effort. I was very surprised that my Russian opponent had terrible luck trying to KO my AT guns with his 122mm and 152mm guns!! It just didnt seem right that so many shots were ineffective. I checked the blast of a 152mm. It is about 350!And several shells came the way of the AT gun. It is amazing how INVISIBLE infantry in EFOW can be!! He basically got in a whole battalion of infantry into the town when it looked like he only had maybe a depleted company. If I were to play that again but as Russians, I would defintely investigate a left flank attack. Crossing that ridge on the right/centre is a nighmare it seems. I would even suggest sending a platoon of infantry with AT capability to clear the woods on the german left flank and sweep right around the scattered trees where my Panthers lay (and where the Tigers appear). A memorable battle. Lt Bull
  12. I was surprised to see this matchup given the date. I don't know too much about Hungary in WW2 so I did some research. Hungary joins the Axis, November 20, 1940 Hungary conquered by Germany, March 19, 1944 Hungary declares war on Germany, January 21, 1945 (???????) Soviet forces occupy Budapest, Hungary, February 13, 1945 Confused? Well, it seems there were still Hungarian divisions operating right up untill the end of the war (including SS based formations). Many fled to Austria to surrender to the US/UK. It is strange to think that a country like Hungary would keep fighting with the Germans to the end when their own country had been occupied by the Russians. Must have been deranged hardcore Nazi fanatics perhaps. Can anyone clarify any of this apparently confusing history? Cheers Lt Bull PS: Didn't mention how surprised I was to see the AI unit picked Hungarian "tanks" for the battle: the Toldi with a 40mm gun, 35mm armor max..hmmm...not the kind of "tank" I would expect to see in Mar 1945, especially when you are up against Shermans!
  13. That really sucks! Perhaps your postie got tired of waiting for their copy of CMBB to arrive, if you know what I mean! March down to the local PO and have it out with em I say! Enjoy the grand final, cause it might be a loooong weekend otherwise. Lt Bull
  14. Hello KiwiJoe...OK, you can mark that one down
  15. Epee, maybe your postie left the PO before the BTS packages were delivered. I got mine delivered at about 12:30pm. I'm in Essendon (go the Dons!). Mick, your position as crushee will be re-addressed at Tessel Woods and will continue in the East! Lt Bull
  16. Don't worry Mick. Once I crush you in the West, I will then crush you in the East! Lt Bull
  17. Wooohooooo! The mailman just knocked on the door and delivered to me my parcel from BTS! Lt Bull
  18. One thing you can definitely check with any sounds linked to a weapon is the rate of fire (or frequency). The MG42 fired at 1200 rounds per minute using a 50-250 round link belt feed. At this rate of fire, a 50 round belt would last 2.5 sec. The MG34 fired at 850 rounds per minute using a 50-100 round link belt feed. At this rate of fire, a 50 round belt would last 3.5 sec. I have used a wav file waveform program (Sound Forge) to determine the frequency of the sounds to quantify and compared them to what you would expect them to be based on the technical data. Going from the demo, I think wav files 00000481-00000483 and 00000488-00000492 are for the MG34. My analysis indicates these sounds are of a MG firing at ~650 rpm (cf 850 rpm of a MG34). Strangely, although there are no MG42s that I can find in the CMBB demo, however wav files 00000380-00000383 do sound like MG42s. These sounds indicate a MG firing at ~1000rpm (cf 1200 rpm of a MG42). And yes, I think the MG42 and MG34 sound effects used in the Day of Defeat HL mod are probably the best I have heard (going on what I've heard about the actual sounds of those weapons). The MG42 definitely sounds like ripping canvas! Lt Bull
  19. Hey Stoffel, yes I am alive and well I intended on doing a number of things while overseas but never got around to. I did manage to catch up with at least one CM forum contact in London though. I think I did try to contact others as well when I was travelling around. But I wasn't in Europe last year. It was in 2nd half of 2000. I may have ODed on games with my order but sure, I will be up for some TacOps actions. I have just downloaded the demo. I wouldn't mind trying it out h2h before then. Lt Bull
  20. That's good. I am assuming my order for CMBB, TacOPs4 and SC will be bundled together in the same pacjage, with CMBB being the last one to be packed...sometime after Sep 20. Lt Bull
  21. Along with half the company, I was laid off work 3 weeks ago as well, with 6 weeks pay!! I am among brothers! Perhaps we should start our own CMBO/CMBB retrenched employees gamers club. Can BTS send us our copies now before we find work again? Lt Bull
  22. Just played the tute scenario. I have: Win XP Professional lates DirextX drivers GeForce4 MX Nvidia 64mb card (lates Detonator 40 drivers) 512 DDR RAM SB Live! card (latest drivers) desktop res and game res at 1024x768 100Hz Have had no problems with CMBB demo (or CMBO, or any other games I have installed). However, I did experience something strange when I first started the game and it asked what screen res to use. I pressed "skip to next" to see what the other options were. I got impatient of cycling through each one and wanted to go back to the first one suggested (1024x768 100Hz) so I did a Ctrl+Alt+Del to close it down and restart. I exited out but then my PC rebooted soon after. Not sure if I restarted the game or not. Anyways, when the PC rebooted to WinXP again, I clicked on CMBB demo, accepted the initial 1024x768 100Hz res setting. No problems here so far Lt Bull
  23. I just did a bit of a search myself. Apparently the The West Point Military History Series of books might be worth a look. It will be published in October 2002 but you can order it now. Lt Bull
  24. Tanks a Lot, Magnificent work! Waiting to commence download Lt Bull
