  1. Mord, I agree with you on the casualty markers. This is something that I brought up before CMBO came out. Even if it was only on some sort of after action map where simple different color x's were placed for each casualty I think you could get a better overall picture of the battle. Also I agree that having one casualty marker for the last man in a squad/team is better than nothing. A problem with this can be when 11 men in a squad go down defending a certain area and then the lone survivor runs 200 yards across an open field before getting whacked. I can certainally do without the blood and gore. Yes, that was a hot topic.
  2. Michael Good point. Jimmie was often seen standing off several hundred meters from pillboxes lobbing 37mm shell at them. (joke)
  3. It's not impossible at 1000 meters to put a shell through the firing slit, just unlikely. But the more times you fire the more likely it becomes. I just recently had a Stuart on a hill with a clear shot at a mg pillbox, range about 800meters. It fired for most of 3 turns but finally knocked out the pillbox. As to why there is no explosion or whatever I just accepted the fact that it was knocked out and went from there.
  4. I have to admit since I bought CM the only other game I bought was B17 II. I figured I was throwing away my money. Seldom am I so right.
  5. Just a rifle firing a very precisely made .50 slug
  6. I think EricM has hit the nail on the head for anyone who says there will be time for more patches for CMBO as soon as CM2 is finished. Anyone who wants a CMBO patch then will be asked to be quiet because CM3 is being worked on. That said I think most of us would agree that BTS is far ahead of anyone else in their development and support. CM is the only game I play anymore and I will surely buy CM2 as soon as it comes out. Because the games are going to cover different areas and some people will certainly be partial to one or another I think it would be nice if they could continue to support all of them. However, bottom line for me is that I love CMBO right now. If there never is another patch I won't lose any sleep over it. Anyway, patch can be so vulgar sounding. I think when we are talking about BTS we should say the latest "game enhancement"
  7. Gyrene I think you are referring to Wake Island. It was defended by a small garrison of marines and civilian construction workers. I don't think there was near 20,000 in that landing force. They did get a surprise however. There may have been 20,000 in the Midway invasion force but they turned back after losing four carriers.
  8. I have 17 of them. Got then at least 10 years ago. I often wondered how many there were in the set. It seems to me that it has been within the last year that I got their offer card in the mail. They still have "The Secret War" as the first one. I often thought about trying to contact them about seeing if I could just complete my set.
  9. Won't do you any good now but look into a little piece of software called GoBack. http://www.roxio.com/en/products/goback/
  10. One more Bubblehead from 67-71. Last 2 1/2 years on the SSN USS Greenling. My watch station was in the control room. That was the place to be because you knew what was going on. Out of sub school in New London I got assigned to an old dirty diesel boat, SS 347 Cubera. My best friend got the Scorpion. The Navy was letting non-rated seamen (such as we both were) trade orders. I didn't want to go on that old pig boat but he didn't want to trade. Said he knew the fast attacks were out a lot but it was a nice new boat. I remember going out to help look for it. I went from the Cubera to the SSBN 618 Thomas Jefferson and made one patrol. So in my short 4 year Navy career I was on a diesel boat, a boomer, and a fast attack.
  11. Maximus, good point on the name, I didn't even realize that. They are one in the same, though. I have been following it for at least 1 1/2 years. On their board tonight they are talking about a patch and some people are hoping for stripes on the runways and all engine gauges that work. As KwazyDog said they are probably working on the desktop crashes, missing crewman, and other more serious issues.
  12. I got it at EB on the 15th which I think was the official release date in the US. I thought for a long time that it was an overly ambitious project that would never happen, now I think that maybe it is an overly ambitious project that has happened. It has been out in Europe for a couple of weeks so I knew what I was getting into but I just bought it and didn't worry about the $45. Some of the graphics are really great but I know it missed last Christmas and they weren't going to miss another one. Can you say bugs and crashes? KwazyDog is right about it maybe being a good sim, but I think he is being too polite when he says "once they work out the problems." More likely "if they work out the problems." Go to http://www.bombs-away.net/ to see a different approach from BTS to putting a sim on the market.
  13. Dr. Brian Because there is no visual damage to buildings modeled BTS added that to give you an idea of the damage state of a building. Hopefully in CM2 that will change. ------------------ Rick614
  14. DrD Oxygen is made from seawater as is fresh water. Power is of course needed to run these plants. A limited amount of Oxygen would be stored. An additional danger here is the build up of CO2 whick would normally be removed by scrubbers, again power needed. As for the diesel good for emergency power but of course needs large amount of air to run, something they don't have. I think after what appears to be a catastrophic flooding they would have hit the bottom very fast. You have to realize that if you could stand this thing on one end the other end would be over a hundred feet out of the water. I wasn't a nuc but I would imagine that the reactor scrammed and shut down. Sitting on the bottom the main coolant pumps would be sucking mud and would quickly foul. I guess we have to be thankful that one piece of Russian tech. worked. A am afraid that the Russian fear of appearing weak by asking for help will probably cost the lives of all aboard. There is a good chance that they are all dead now. I helped look for the Scorpion. We all knew it could have been us. ------------------ Rick614
  15. Maximus Does it say somewhere after you install patch version 1.01 your version should still read 1.00? ------------------ Rick614
  16. Wow, a lot of heavy stuff here. I just agree with Scott and Red Dog. I haven't had as much time to play CM as I would like but I have had plenty of bailed crews and I like Red Dog just kind of leave them be, I hope they just head for cover so I don't have to worry about them. Fred said he wants to play the game not the AI but control already is turned over to the AI when you have units panicked and beyond. Lets do away with any gamey temptations and just head them to the rear. Or maybe this. One crew in 100 or 200 or 500, whatever comes up as HEROIC and you can issue them orders. They help you out in all sorts of ways but if they come to a breaking point, yes they head for the rear or advance in a different direction. Steve and Charles you have created a monster, lets all have fun. ------------------ Rick614
  17. Capt. I just got mine. I have the day off and was in the yard when I saw the mailman coming. Went out by the road like a little kid, telling myself not to cry if he didn't have it. I have to go somewhere now but I am going to take the manual with me, it looks super. I'll have to pick up some midnight oil on my way home. Good luck on yours. I'm in Indianapolis and mine was shipped on 6/20. ------------------ Rick614
  18. Nothing in Indianapolis yet. I ordered in Jan or Feb. I thought I had a problem with my CC but Steve had e-mailed that mine would ship on Monday so I thought today would be the day. I had scheduled a day off tomorrow to take my lease back so I will do that first thing and when I get home CM will be waiting for me, I hope. If it doesn't come tomorrow I will be officially semi-pissed off. ------------------ Rick614
  19. For anyone that has been in this forum for a while they know what to expect from Steve and Charles but for anyone fairly new here goes. As of Friday afternoon my card still had not been charged so as I was mailing BTS last night to ask them to check I remembered that my card had changed from a Visa to a M/C with a new # some time ago so I figure my pre-order is history. I figure I will get an answer some time next week with as busy as these guys must be right now. Around noon I check my mail and Steve has answered me before 6AM Sat morning telling me everything looks cool. I check my card again and it has been billed. Hey, I think these guys really care| || || || || |
  20. Steve and Charles I guess I missed this before but I was reading Blackwood's post about UPS and I find out that you guys are shipping Priority Mail. I had just assumed it would be plain old first class. That would mean that most of us in the States should have CM for the weekend. A great touch. Thanks a lot. ------------------ Rick614
