I posted a reply to a previous question like this suggesting downloading a program called PrintScreen, but my new love is a free download (shareware..I've since bought it) called HyperSnap-DxPro. I wanted to let others know about an undocumented heavy weapon in CM: the Ballistic Attack Church Steeple (BACS). Shown below is the lift-off of a BACS; when it came down it completely obliterated a wheat field, depriving two German squads of sandwich bread for a week. In every business I know anything about, and also in terms of government agencies and other bureaucracies, the majority of efforts and products are mediocre to just okay, and far too many for comfort are not very good to real bad. My own take as a psychologist is that it has nothing to do with how the business or agency is structured, it has to do with the quality of leadership and whether there are institutional restrictions on how much freedom the leadership has. So even if you have a wonderful system in place with great rules, if you have supervisors/bosses who don't care about the rules and are petty tyranical manics, the rules don't matter. Or, you can have wonderful managers/supervisors, but the agency, business, or institution doesn't reward or encourage innovation, or humane treatment of workers, or responsiveness to customers/consumers, so it's still a crummy outfit and the good people leave. I think BTS is putting out a superior product and (more importantly) treating consumers decently because there was a lucky gathering of good people in the company. I've seen it over and over again my 35 years of working in various places. And it seems that there are very few places where you can make major changes if things arene't good, because part of the reason they aren't good is that key people aren't open to change and don't encourage or reward it. Bottom line: thank heavens for the lucky stars that bring everything together just right to make a BTS and a CM. And if you're working in a crummy place, don't bemoan, don't wreck yourself trying to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear--move on! ------------------ Max Molinaro

Same here...I won the first time through the scenario this way (through shooting up the piecemeal charges) and I really shouldn't have. I think the Germans just have crummy officers in place... : ) ------------------ Max Molinaro

When I logged on this morning, I found that all the posts were spread across double the amount of screen real estate they took up yesterday, making it necessary to scroll extensively to read every message. I tried changing my type size (control-] on my system) but it doesn't help. I swear I didn't change anything else about my computer. I had two shermans bog down the first time I played the US in the new scenario, and they stayed bogged the rest of the scenario. At least they were stuck where they had useful fields of fire... --Max

New scenario freezes: Navigator conflict?

I was on turn 33 of the new scenario with all my armor intact as German(!) and all the American armor knocked out and their troops on the run when, after giving my orders and clicking on "GO" the game froze solid. Norton "antifreeze" (which almost never works anyway) couldn't do anything with it, although it did identify a number of errors that were occuring. I was also online with Netscape Communicator 4.07...and it seems to me that this kind of thing happens more often with games when I'm online and Communicator is running. Anyone else share my paranoia, uh, experience? --Max

I ignored the briefing since I wanted to play! I played the US and sent three tanks to the far left and two to the left of the road. Immediately three tanks bogged down (in what, I don't know) and the two left both got killed near the big deutsche woods. Even so I ended up with a total victory by the end of the game. The Germans made assault after assault on the church and the two-story wooden house nearest the German-controlled woods, and simply wiped themselves out. It was moving to see German units with 90% casualties charging fixed positions, but not too bright. And wonder of wonders, my three bogged tanks all happened to have good fields of fire and helped stop the charges, plus killed all three STUGs as they chugged into view! Anyway, many, many thanks to BTS. ------------------ Max Molinaro

After getting completely dizzy and falling over trying to understand the discussion of email turn sequencing; and after having finally beaten the AI as either side in both beta scenarios (took me a while!); and after searching the database for other mentions of email opponents; (pant-pant): Where are people getting their email opponents? Is there a board in some gaming web page? I usually play Civil War games with the ACW Club (great gaming club: http://www.wargame.ch/wc/acw/ACWmainpage.htm ) and most of them aren't into 20th Century stuff. You're right: Starship Troopers the book was excellent, the movie and the TV movie of Puppet Masters were awful, and why is Mrs. Heinlein selling her dead husband's rights to idiots? But, to get this back on a war game track, that Avalon Hill game of Starship Troopers was one of my favorites, and CM would be a very good system to use for a translation, I think. "Bugs, Mr. Rico--zillions of 'em!"

I have been bothered by the "slo-mo" animations of troops also and am pleased to hear that there are plans to improve this. However, I wanted to add that I have noticed that in viewing figures running from a distance away (maybe 100m) in view 1, the figures move significantly faster and actually look like they might be running. Adds a lot to the sense of urgency when you're being overrun and see enemy units running around your position. Yikes! I also wanted to say that I have been wargaming for over 30 years and am delighted to find this game and this forum with its developer feedback, and usually restrained and interesting posts. I'm so sick of "The graphics suck! You're a moron if you don't think so! Duh!" I've seen idiotic posts from 40 year-olds and articulate points made by kids, so it ain't just an age thing. I also wanted to mention that Steve Grammont in sales (or is he also the Steve who appears here?) answered an ordering question on Sunday night (tonight) within 15 minutes of my asking. Now that's service, which I highly appreciate. I'm ordering CM tonight (mainly because it looks like a great game, but also because everything about it seems to be handled so well). ------------------ Max Molinaro
