  1. BTS (Steve) sez <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Well, my personal theory is because certain people don't feel it is as fun to publically insult someone OTHER than Charles on this matter. Now someone else, who is greatly respected and admired, will have to suffer if this Spanish Inquisition continues. Guess that took the fun out of it? Steve <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> (Sound of door being kicked in) Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!!! Sorry I couldn't resist. Cardinal Fang Have Comfy Chair. Will Travel.
  2. M Hofbauer sez <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>you are missing the point about the bible. every christian child is taught in elementary school that you are NOT to read the bible literally. Those are all metaphors etc. based maybe remotely on any actual events.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> I sez: Maybe where you're from but around here (in Virginia in the USofA) all elementary school kids aren't taught that unless they're going to Sunday school and even then it depends on the church. There are plenty of churches, primarily the fundamentalists I believe, who do take the Bible to be the literal truth. Living in a state with not one but two well-known evangelists (Pat Robertson and Oral Lambert) I've run into a couple of them myself. I'm not a Christian myself although I was raised that way and I agree that the Bible is best taken metaphorically but, trust me on this I'm a Cardinal after all , not everyone feels the same way. 4. Howdy, Teach it has been discussed although I don't think it's been discussed "to death". For you're reading pleasure I did a quick search and came up with: http://www.battlefront.com/discuss/Forum1/HTML/006977.html http://www.battlefront.com/discuss/Forum1/HTML/008652.html I myself am not really sure whether or not a new command is needed. After all I believe that historically that it was (and probably still is) difficult to move a column of troops and tanks especially under fire. If this command is implemented will it make it too easy too move columns? To a certain extent shouldn't it be difficult. I'm not saying it couldn't or shouldn't be improved but to what extent? Does anyone have any historical data about moving tanks and troops? Geez, I'm chock full of questions aren't I? I probably shouldn't post when I've taken the day off. I tend to ramble even more than usual. Cardinal Fang Nobody Expects The Spanish Inquisition! P.S. The smilies in this post snuck in and they are in no way an attempt to annoy Mr. Peng. A person(?) whose wrath I'd prefer to avoid. Come to think of it I can't think of anyones wrath I wouldn't want to avoid. See. I told you I ramble. I'll shut up now.
  5. Okay this is probably just me but does anyone else imagine that PEIPER's titles are being done by William Shatner at his most Kirk-like? (Kirk-mode on) MUST...REACH....BUTTON.....LIVES OF.....400...CREW....AT....STAKE.. (Kirk-mode off) Cardinal Fang Have Comfy Chair. Will Travel.
  6. I thought I had a pretty good idea of what the American's had done with tanks during WWII but I'd never even heard of this behemoth. (Actually I considered myself a grognard until I started reading this board and realized I was a 'grognard light'.) I was pleasantly surprised to see that the site had pictures of the thing. It just goes to show that ya never know what you'll find whilst surfing the web. Actually the way I play I doubt having a company of the things would help me. Although I bet they'd be great a drawing fire. Cardinal Fang Nobody Expects The Spanish Inquisition!
  7. Heck, I not only need the COMFY CHAIR I also need the SOFT PILLOWS and the (dish)RACK!!!! I do have surprise though. and ruthless efficiency. and an almost fanatical devotion to the Pope. I'll come in again. Cardinal Fang Have Comfy Chair. Will Travel.
  8. If I ask real nice can I please have this modeled in the next patch? Pleeeeeeeaaaassseeeeeee?????? http://battletanks.com/articles.htm Cardinal Fang Nobody Expects The Spanish Inquisition!
  9. Howdy folks, I was just searching the web more or less randomly and I came across this site http://tiger1e.com/saumur/English/tourelle.html I don't think its been mentioned before. I hope this helps. Cardinal Fang Nobody Expects The Spanish Inquisition!
  10. Allies, Americans specifically. Never really thought to wonder why probably when I was a kid getting into wargaming (lo those many years ago) I had an affinity to "my side" (I'm an American in case you didn't know) and now its probably a combination of habit, the fact that I'm more familiar with the equipment, and it's "my side". 11. That's good news! I don't suppose you mentioned the lock-ups some of us were having (okay, mainly me) with fog turned on did you? Of course I need to figure out why I didn't think of sending them an email to see if they had an suggestions. D'oh! Cardinal Fang Nobody Expects The Spanish Inquisition.
  12. I'm feeling much better now. Thanks for your concern Tiger. Now put away the Comfy Chair. Please? Besides, I have the Soft Cushions. And I'm not a fraid to use them! Cardinal Fang Happy That His Head Is Clear
  13. Howdy, Yaquinto's games 88, Armor, and Panzer (all based on the same game system) used a WEGO system as well. They use preplotted turns much like Wooden Ships & Iron Men does. Cardinal Fang Nobody Expects The Spanish Inquisition!
  14. Glad I could help. That is a cool site. Especially now that my poor ol' brain is starting to go. That's site's saved what's left of my sanity during those "Where have I seen that actor before" moments. Cardinal Fang Have Comfy Chair. Will Travel.
  15. Howdy, According to The Internet Movie Database www.imdb.com John Wayne played Lieutenant Colonel Benjamin Vandervoort in The Longest Day. www.imdb.com is a great site. Cardinal Fang Nobody Expects The Spanish Inquisition!
  16. Howdy, The movie about the Godless Communists ( I really don't remember them being Italians) that invaded the USA and that was on MST3K was: INVASION U.S.A. Apt name, huh? It oozed badness out of bad frame of this bad film. (paraphrasing Opus there) It certainly deserved to be "MiSTed". Cardinal Fang MST3K Fan
  17. Dallas is rumoured to have said <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>This is not a put down as you will undoubtedly have other strengths. No one has it all.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Actually I did have it all. I just can't remember where the hell I put it. If anyone sees it please let me know. Cardinal Fang Still Sick Less Tired
  18. Howdy, I played a bit of SL in my younger days. My main claim to fame in that game (uh-oh, I'm starting to rhyme. That can't be good.) was the time I broke almost every weapon on a Russian tank trying to kill a SS squad that had a panzerschreck. I say almost because the one weapon that was left was the rear-facing mg. My luck with dice is consistant. Unfortunately it's consistantly bad. I was the designated "rules-reader" in my group. I would read the rules and then explain them to everyone else (you see at the time they had lives while I...well it's painful to talk about right now. sniff sniff). Anyway ASL was the first and only set of rules that actually gave me a headache. I distinctly remember one time as I was driving somewhere (okay that kinda blows the "distinctly" away but bear with me) and I noticed a liscence plate on another car. I had just finished reading the rules. The liscence plate started with SMC- and I IMMEDIATLY translated it has Single Man Counter. At that time I figured I better leave the rules alone for awhile. We did play it and managed to have fun. All that being said I think that CM is more of a computer version of Yaquinto's games Panzer, Armour, and 88. Those games featured simultanious turn resolution (all turns were pre-plotted) and took angle of attack and the slope of armour into effect along with whether the shot was a rising or falling one and also included spotting ranges. I'd started a thread ages ago when we were still waiting for the release of the game to see if anyone else had played the Yaquinto games. BTS had never heard of them but a good number of other posters had. They were some fun games although my luck wasn't any better with them. I'll stop rambling now. I must remember not to post when I'm ill. Now where's that cough medicine? It sucks being sick on your day off. Cardinal Fang Nobody Expects The Spanish Inquisition
  19. Howdy Loki, Nope, no offense taken. As I said I had some dim memory of my Pagan friends mentioning Walpurgis and although they're odd they're not satanists. Actually they'd be odd regardless of their spiritual leanings. :)They just recently wished me a Happy Lammas. I haven't looked that one up yet. Although according to Monty Python a llama is a quadruped who lives in big rivers like the Amazon. It has two ears, a heart, and a beak for eating honey. But it is provided with fins for swimming. Hey, I'm tired and sick. Stupid Summer colds!!!! I should probably be in bed and not up typing nonsensical messages. Good Gaming! Cardinal Fang Nobody Expects The Spanish Inquisition!
  20. Loki said <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>That is true and correct, but it also happened to fall on Walpurgis day (April 30th).That is a satanic holiday.I know its just coincidence, but its still an interesting coincidence given the subject. Before anyone asks.... No I am not a Satanist, nor am I a member of any religion for that matter. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> I have a few Wiccan friends and if I weren't so gosh darn bitter and cynical I might just be one too! So when you said Walpurgis was satanic holiday it rang some dim bells (at this point ALL the bells are dim but that's....what was a saying again? Oh yeah.) I quick search on the web came up with that Walpurgis (as it's called in Germany) is also called Beltaine and is a Pagan/Wiccan holiday. My quick search didn't come up with anything satanic. http://www.circlesanctuary.org/pholidays/Beltane.html http://www.newageinfo.com/bus/cymry/Beltaine.html Unless you think all Pagans/Wiccans are satanists in which case we'll probably just have to disagree on that and let it go since this ain't the forum to discuss those kinda things. Unless of course CM accurately models the crack 12th Wiccan Recon Division (aka the Witches on Wheels). Cardinal Fang Nobody Expects The Spanish Inquisition

  22. Howdy, I loaded up the 1.05.1 beta drivers for my Voodoo 3 2000 PCI card a few days ago. Everything seemed to be working well. I'd played CM briefly it ran fine. Last night I decided to see if the new drivers would have an effect on the problems I have with lockups when fog is turned on. I went into a scenarion (St. Annes Chappelle or something) and turned on fog. I almost immediately had a lockup. After rebooting the computer I went back in and turned the weather back off. This is when the scary part happened. The game locked up again. I rebooted and tried again. Another lockup. I tried it in different scenarios to no avail. I deleted my prefs file and that didn't help. I brought in an old copy of a pref file that used to work and that didin't help. I uninstalled and reinstalled the beta drivers and that didn't help. Finally I went back and installed the 1.05 drivers. I noticed the screen was jerky when I went into the game and I remembered to turn off the ambient sound. Everything SEEMED fine after that. I haven't had a chance to play long but I think the lockups are gone again. Now a couple of questions, I appreciate all the help I've received here and all the work BTS has done but is there anything BTS can do for the players who have problems like mine in a future patch or is the problem so specific to each computer that BTS can't help? The other question is in regard to the sound files. Since I didn't have a problem with the demo and the only difference between the demo and the game is that the .wavs are 22Hz instead of 44Hz is it possible that if I redid the sounds to be 22Hz that it might help? Is that even possible? and if so what would be the best way to do it? Gee that was more than a couple of questions wasn't it? Opps another question! TIA, Cardinal Fang Nobody Expects The Spanish Inquisition!
  23. Tommi sez: <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Saw the film again some time ago. I noticed that one of the Germans in it committed a pretty serious etiquette mistake. Now, ten points for the one who first points it out. - Tommi<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Would that be the during the attack on the railroad yard when one of the German soldiers looks right at the camera? Ummm I don't lose any points if I'm wrong do I? Cardinal Fang Nobody Expects The Spanish Inquisition!
  24. Howdy Snake Bitey, I feel your pain. I too was having a lot of problem getting CM to work. I was getting lockups and the occasional Blue Screen Of Death though. My system is a K62-500 w/ 64 MB, a Voodoo3 2000 PCI, and an Aopen AW724 sound card. At first I thought it was just my sound card but the game would hang even with the sound card disabled. What finally seems to have worked for me (keeping fingers crossed!) was to turn of 3D sound, turn off the weather, and turn off ambient sound. It's possible that I could turn the ambient sound back on but after all I went through trying to get it to work I'm hesitant to change anything. I'm debating using the Voodoo3 BETA drivers but so far I haven't worked myself up to it. I hope this helps. Even if what works for me doesn't work for you I thought I'd let you know that the game was definately worth the hassle of getting it to work. Cardinal Fang Nobody Expects The Spanish Inquisition!
  25. Zamo said <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>I have to agree with Michael about the patch. What is it you people want patched? This product is the least buggy piece of code I have shelled cash out for in years. Are any of you suffering crashes? All the glitches I've read about so far are completely inconsequential. I would much rather see Steve and Charles spend their time doing the coding and textures for CM2 than on any silly patch for CM. Further more, what I think people here are mostly looking forward to in the patch is not really any "patching", of the game but more of the "enhancing" that BTS did with the 1.01 patch. Am I wrong? Are you really worried that something isn't modelled correctly, or that the program is buggy? Or are you eagerly awaiting that next new little tid-bit of a surprise from Charles' gracious fingertips? I'm not trying to come down on anybody, I want it too, but...patience is a virtue. Zamo<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Just a quick point. Some of us ARE experiencing crashes. Myself included. The posts regarding crashes are generally in the TECH forum. Fortunately they don't seem to be common but they are occuring. In order for me to get the game to work I had to disable 3D sound and turn off the weather. This is with a AMD K6-2 500 with 64 MB RAM and a Voodoo 3 2000 video card. I have all the latest drivers and it took me forever to come up with a way to make it work. This is not to slam BTS in anyway. CM is a great piece of work. If it wasn't I wouldn't have jumped through the hoops I had to in order to get it to run. I'm also sure that it's crashing on far less machines than most other commercially available games. I just happened to be unlucky. So to recap yes it's a great wonderful game but there are people who are having crashes. Okay so maybe that wasn't such a quick point.
