One great thing about all these details being modeled it it makes smaller games much more fun that CMx1. And when you play a large scenario, you can konw that 'the little things' are all being taken care of automatically.

Okay. I'll delete it until I get a thumbs up.
-
Okay.
I went to 'Create New Torrent', selected the .exe as the source, and clicked "Create and save as..." in BitTorrent.
-
done.
Now... it's my first torrent. How do I make sure I did it properly? And what do I have to do to make sure you guys can see it?
*update* not done. I guess I need to upload it somewhere? Where would be a good site to do this?

I'm so glad CM:BN came out while I was in class and not back at work. My class takes up less of my week than work.
Plus my wife is gone.
I'm up for a small scenario. I remember when CM:BO came out, people were blindly challenging others to PBEM by randomly choosing a number (I'll fight you in scenario 23 as Allies...). But now I'd rather choose a small scenario as long as it's one neither has played.
-
Not that I'm aware of.
They do target individual soldiers, but I don't think they have a preference for one type of soldier in a unit over another (aside from the 'I can see him')
The AI may have a preference for targeting certain types of units above others. Don't know for certain. It did in CMx1. E.g., mortars and HQs were bullet magnets, I believe.

Yes.
And if you save your files, you can watch the whole battle when you're done. Not all in one file... but you can load each turn and watch it again.
For extra fun, you can swap files and passwords with your opponent and see how he played.
-
In my defense, I didn't post that I was downloading the game. I posted that I HAD ALREADY downloaded the game and was playing around with it.
-
First battle complete! The liberation of Western Europe is on!
And it's worth me mentioning it a third time - The Unit Selection for QBs and scenarios is sick.
-
Another obvious positive impression - The more I play the more I like that crew-served weapons aren't just the weapon and nothing else.
In CMx1, the little 60 mm mortars would run out of ammo in 3 minutes and then I couldn't really do anything with them. Now, I have 3 guys with carbines and 1 with an SMG that can do a little observing and overwatch if necessary.

I played the demo and learned the controls. So I chose a small scenario (the tutorial, Roadblock, which I didn't play in the demo It's in the demo, right?) and spent time looking at all the great detail. Well done. I almost feel bad if I play a battalion sized scenario and spend less time ogling the units.
Oh... I wish I could play the game in windowed mode. However, the alt-tabbing is stupid fast.
-
I was lucky as I was sitting at my desk when the email came through. I clicked the a crazed monkey to get in before others did.
Don't worry, I'll make sure to spoil all the scenarios for y'all.

First Impression:
The download was really fast. Thanks for setting put the tubes to feed me pixeltruppen as fast as my FiOS could take it. 3.5 MB/sec
The biggest change from the demo is getting to see the Unit Selection screen. It's nuts. In a good/bad way. The amount of choices and fiddling one can do is amazing. Scenario designers should be in heaven.
Hmm... does my Rifle squad have an M1A1 bazooka, no bazooka, or a M9A1 bazooka.
I didn't mention this about the demo - I assume I'm a minority that has a monitor wide enough to show all four unit order tabs and still have space to spare. In a perfect world, I'd be able to display all four of them at once.

...And saving my game and going back to the QB editor gives me -
69 Meeting Engagement maps
84 Probe maps
80 Attack maps
84 Assault maps
That gives me 307 QB maps (numbers might be off a bit. there are A LOT OF MAPS). Sorry to have confused anyone.
I'm glad I was wrong, because that means maps specifically designed for the type of battle we choose to play. Hooray!
-
Ahh.. I think I understand where my QB map total mistake was. I picked "attack" and it gave me nothing but maps labeled Attack blah blah blah.
I'm guessing the map choices are based on the type of game you choose to play? And that if I chose meeting engagement I'd get other map choices and that's why I only saw 80 maps.
so... 80 Attack QB maps?
-
Oh, wow.
The QB force selection is anything but quick. What a huge level of choices. It's incredible. A tip of the hat to whomever spent all the time getting an accurate TOE and choosing what to include and not include as well as assigning points to everything.
I forsee much debate over whether the point values were chosen properly.

Yay for a download server that could handle a 25 Mbps connection. Download took about 7 minutes.
Before I plunge into a game, does anyone want to play a PBEM game blind?
Just pick any scenario you haven't played, and let's go!
Off to check the Quick Battle goodness! Yay!! 80 QB maps. Hooray!

How did you guys lose your early Join Dates?
I lost my September 1999 date when there was a server problem in January 2000 and a bunch of us rejoined with our original nicknames. Then Steve posted and said, "Don't rejoin, we're fixing it!"

Lol... I never thought I'd see an artist expounding on color in a CM thread.
But the wide degree of professions make this a fun place, and certainly make the game better.
Oh, and I like the GUI changes. I'm not too fond of the default GUI, myself.
-
I thought you were giving away an Intel CPU. Bait-and-switch, I say!
-
I don't know for sure as I've gone from 3 24" monitors to a single 30" monitor. But one of the first questions I asked after returning to the forums was if it supported multiple monitors and the answer was 'yes'.
-
The 60mm was awesome in CM:BO. But you couldn't fire it indirectly and the AI targeted mortars above all else. So borg spotting meant death for the little guys.
And remember, the little buggers only have 3 min of firing in them. Although unlike in CM:BO, they can still be used as infantry.
I'm surprised no one's complained about what anti-infantry death machines Shermans are. Piles of HE ammunition, multiple MGs, and a very fast turret.
-
What's your system? So that we might compare.
I have a Phenom IIx4 clocked at 3.8 GHz and a slightly overclocked 5870. I set everything to max at a resolution of 2560x1600 in CM demo and noticed no performance problems.
I also have Shogun:Total War II and can max the settings (although there isn't any AA available)
-
The Sherman engine sounds are the same or very similar to the sound in CM:BO, although the droning engine sound is a little less prominent.
Painfully slow download

You wouldn't happen to be Ron A., the very first person I ever played a PBEM game against way back in CM:BO demo days, would you?
