  1. camera works fine

press middle mouse button and hold to rotate/pan view, scroll mouse wheel to zoom in and out

    arrow keys to move around

    simple and effective!

better than holding down the alt key in COH to pan/rotate IMO

and vastly superior to CMBO's arrow buttons and budge the screen to rotate etc smile.gif

although I don't mind M2TW's FPS camera scheme option, arrow keys forward and back, mouse to pan/rotate screen

I like the dynamic weather and time of day changes. COol.

wouldn't TOW be that much better with raining that starts and stops, sky clears etc ;)

that's how it works in Company of Heroes, you just see them stick their guns out the windows which TOW should be able to do just fine. And they will move around inside on their own and shift positions from which side of the house the threat is coming from etc with a time delay to shift and remount MGs etc

You just get a floating icon on the house for the unit and when you click on this the unit's stats and men show on the info bar

I do remeber back in the day reading that TOW had this feature...I even recall seeing screenshots with guns sticking out from the window....

  4. Meanwhile, one of my infantrymen fights a German in the trenches, and finally gets him with grenades (and the help of another tank) Also, if you look closely, there is a grenade in the air.

The guys made it to the 88 and are frantically trying to turn it towards the enemy (which is a 75mm pak for now).

    http://img489.imageshack.us/my.php?image=12gj5.jpg

OH NOES, the other jagdpanzer seems to have reared its ugly head, luckily this guys know what their doing ;)

    http://img489.imageshack.us/my.php?image=13xf2.jpg

Amazingly, they score a hit. (despite this hit, they all ended up dieing from one shot, straight through the bullet shield)

    http://img489.imageshack.us/my.php?image=14fm2.jpg

After killing the second Jagdpanzer, I angrily get my revenge on the Jagdpanther, with one of their own tanks as well. (The 75mm pak is scoring a hit on the enemy tank)

No germans make it out alive.

    http://img489.imageshack.us/my.php?image=16oc5.jpg

The rest of my battle was me getting my butt kicked by a pak that had a good position.

  5. His AAR that the post refers to

    --

This mission was a toughy, I ended up losing in the end, thanks to a 75mm pak, but I still kicked some butt, even against the odds.

The first part went okay, they have like three AT guns zeroed in on the approaching fields (one covering one, and the other two covering the other one). I managed to take the left side trenches with minimal loses (lost an m8 from a pak to the wheels and a panzerschrek to the front), but the infantry on the right got hit hard (and I lost a Grant from the two paks as well as another chaffee). After taking the side of the hill, I pushed to the second trench, took it with minimal losses and pushed ahead. This is were things got hairy, came over the hill and got hit hard by three paks, as well as AT packing infantry. After some fighting they starting sending tanks out of nowhere ( 2 pz4 H's, 2 panthers, 2 jagdpanzers, and 1 jagdpanther), I quickly retreated with the last two tanks I had ( 2 m36 sluggers).

This guy got hit by paks and the jagdpanther (sadly no crew survived). Also, If you look in the background, you can see the two Sluggers making a last stand. (as well as the truck full of infantry that I was having trouble unload)

    http://img401.imageshack.us/my.php?image=2sd4.jpg

I succesfully set both panthers ablaze and started fighting the pz 4's (I managed to KO one right off the bat, and heres the crew bailing)

    http://img401.imageshack.us/my.php?image=3yd6.jpg

I managed to knock out the second Pz4 reletively fast, though he took more rounds than expected. Heres the killing blow

    http://img401.imageshack.us/my.php?image=4wp0.jpg

Here are all the other rounds it took before killing him

    http://img385.imageshack.us/my.php?image=5gt3.jpg

I finally got my infantry out and captured one of the recently KO'd pz4's. It was just in time too, because one of the Jagdpanzers moved up. The red on the Pz4 means something is damaged, and it was my right track, it was conspicously missing. Meanwhile, my bazooka man sprints to the other trench, hoping to take a shot at the enemy tank.

    http://img405.imageshack.us/my.php?image=6pg8.jpg

Under the pressure of combat, the inexperienced crew tries their hardest and succeeds in scoring a hit. (the lower skirts are coming off)

    http://img401.imageshack.us/my.php?image=7dw7.jpg

After losing a slugger to the enemy tank, his buddy makes sure that his rounds count

    http://img489.imageshack.us/my.php?image=8gf8.jpg

Some of my infantry make a mad dash for the 88mm pak down the slope of the hill

  6. posted by someone at the RO forums. Sounds promising, but just as I personally thought, Company of Heroes added a lot of nice stuff people expect from a WW2 RTS game now, even though COH isn't a wargame, so you can't avoid the comparisons...

    ---

Well, most options are checked on and the multi-optionals are set to second highest. Also, I have 16x AF and 4x AA forced on.

Im running off of an x1900xtx, opteron 170 @ 2.4ghz and 2gigs of ddr 500 ram. It runs pretty nice, but there is this constant slight slow down (but it doesnt bother me). My system isnt that good of a bench though, since I can just about brute force the game. I did notice though it gets silky smooth when I pause it, so it probably needs optimizations in CPU usage.

As for overall gameplay, it feels good. Tanks feel nice, same with artillary, and both types of air support. Infantry is still pretty good, but its very hard to use them correctly. Even against other infantry, in order to get a sure win, you have to have tank support. I just wish they felt more like Company of Heroes when using cover and fighting. Bazooka's and Panzerchreks are almost always debilitating, so infantry do have tank fighting capability, but without cover, theyre pretty much useless (unless the tanks are preoccupied by other tanks).

Tank fighting is extremely fun. Its just fun to watch tanks score hits. The effects are nice too. When rounds hit tanks, theres small flash and then a small cloud of smoke wisks away. Skirts blow off, road lights pop off, track covers blow off, basically, all kinds of things come off the tanks.

Infantry fighting is pretty neat (infantry on infantry). Anytime both of you have cover is when its fun (when they have trenches, you just about get massacred on the approach). You can tell your infantry to throw grenades (and dictate where they throw them), you can tell them what types to throw. Not sure how well they use cover, but you can tell them to take cover behind things. Theres a move command to tell them to do it. So if theres a tank in the open, you can tell them to hide behind it.

There are also some neat features that I hadnt heard about.

Individual tank crews are killable and the crews can shift positions. So if the gunner gets killed, then the hull gunner can shift to the gunners seat (it does take some time though for crews to shift). So it is possible to solo tank, but switching from driver to gunner once you find an enemy tank is going to get you killed.

Enemy Fighters will dogfight with your fighters, or shoot down your bombers.

Once infantry are in trenches, if you tell them to move to another location in the trench, they will move and stay in the trench.

It is possible to kill an M-10 with small arms fire and grenades.

Light vehicles can be penetrated by small arms fire.

Both tracks can be blown off (not sure if does anything special, like lower your sillohette or something)

When you aim at a specific part, you just define top, middle, or bottom.

    guns can be damaged

Crews can be abonded at will, so if you lose a track, you can abandon the tank and recrew other tanks.

When an engine catches fire, the crew will stay for a little longer, then bail because the fire spreads through out the tank.

  7. then why not just treat all intact buildings as rubble and voila you can enter buildings at will smile.gif

Honestly it's probbaly not a big issue, but somehow the devs deemed it to be left out...

The terrain destruction looks to be scripted. It's not like real "physics" engine at work from what I can see unlike some of the other more recent RTS games

  8. would be nice if there was some tour of duty skirmish type campaign where you took a core group of units from the start of the war in each theatre area to the end etc, and the timeline would reflect when new tech became available, upgrades etc

  9. Also it does look a bit odd where the infantry run into and out of trenches easy as you like...

It would be nice if the infantry also had more idle animations than just standing bolt upright like a statue when they are standing. It looks a bit jarring to me, probbaly because I'm conditioned from seeing idle animations in other games

edit - Ok it's the standing stance that is jarring, way too upright and rigid. It looks out of place for a solider on the frontlines. Feet should be further apart, hunched over, gun on hips, more cautious looking etc

  10. as it says

Official trailer - nice vid, immersive!

Probably gives a good idea how it plays.

18 Mb., Duration - 1:28. demonstrates the battle of German troops with the forces of allies. All forms of troops in action - from the artillery and aviation to the tanks and the infantry.

    http://files.games.1c.ru/ww2rts/files/movies/world_war_ii_rts.wmv

sound for the PZIV cannon does sound a bit out of place though...

Beta tester made Winter War vid - single mission I think, 3.5mins long

not so sure about some of the music though smile.gif

At least you can hear the soundFX a bit now. Could be ingame music? And ingame voices?

framerate a bit jerky, but the crew hoping into tanks look so cool!

    Large - 60megs http://files.games.1c.ru/ww2rts/files/movies/ww2-winter.avi

    Small - 7 megs -
